Placenia is the ideal base for whale shark encounters during the full moons of the spring months.

Westwind is an ideal place to call home whatever your reason for being in Placencia. It is a small guest house that has a B&B feel. The rooms are simply and a bit small but with the beach right out your door you will find that you spend much more time in a hammock than in your room. What some might call modest space is made up for by many unusual ammenities (for Belize) a small refrigerator, and free in-room WiFi if you have your own computer. Also given that the owners (Lisa & George) are usually about, the safety of your things is not a concern, unlike many other locations in Belize (and Placencia). There is also a safe in the office if you simply must put something out of sight. Rooms can be rented with air conditioner or just ceiling fans depending on your budget.

Lisa and George are very helpful if you have questions or need help organizing your day. Each morning there is coffee and fruit set out by 615 AM, wonderful if you just want to sit out on the beach and have a quiet start to your day.

One other great thing about Westwind relative to many of the other guest houses in Placencia is that at night it is extremely quiet. They have tried to limit street traffic access to the beach in front, and as such it has reduced foot traffic which means peace and quiet when you want it. There are plenty of beach chairs, a shaded circle of hammocks, and kayaks all for your use.

Right on the beach! Location is perfect for walking around the village, eating, drinking, sunning, swimming! Room was clean, average sized, comfy bed, hot water shower, cold refridgerator - not fancy. Windows were open, ceiling fan was on, no need for AC with the ocean breeze as pleasant as can be. And you can drink tap water! Lisa and George were very nice. Very low key service. The palapa (thatched roof, open-aired hut) has 5 great hammocks. The beach is terrific, with a light amount of (all ages) vendors selling stuff (some willing to wake you up from a nap!) Placencia is a laid-back little village, not a college party atmosphere, but diversions can be found. In early Nov. was really quiet - the locals were great, the rates were low and some places were closed. Snorkeling at remote Ranguana Key was paradise.

My traveling companion and I spent two nights at the Westwind. It is clean, quiet and quaint and very relaxed. The owners were very helpful and friendly, providing free coffee in the morning along with fruit when available. The rooms were not large, but the bed was comfy and the showers were hot. The location is great, and the beach front setting is really lovely. There are hammocks and chairs to lounge around in, and the hotel is very close to restaurants and beach bars along with dive and souvenir shops. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed here for few days and it was very relaxing, the upstairs rooms are bigger/better and it has a lovely beachside location, the owner seemed like a nice fellow too.
