We stayed at the Singing Sands May 15-23. I usually go to all inclusive 5 star resorts and I travel 4 times per year. Decided to try something different because I really wanted to dive with the whale sharks and so I chose this location. I don't regret it at all. I loved the cabana we had, simple but clean. Our beds were comfortable. I was worried that there was no air conditioning but we had an amazing breeze and it kept us cool despite the temperature being extremely hot. Being so close to the sea was amazing and I loved opening my eyes in the morning and being able to watch the sun rise. The staff was exceptionally friendly and I must really thank Isabella, Florita and Paula for their wonderful meals and catering to my sweet tooth. Marti was helpful in ensuring I got my tours booked to Xunantunich, Jaguar Park and whale shark diving....and yes we saw the whale sharks!! The beach has lovely shaded areas with hammocks and chairs. My 72 year old mother came along and she loved it as well and was able to participate in all the tours, although she snorkelled while I was diving. The only complaint I had was that I had to come home. Will I go to a 5 star resort again...probably...would I come back here again....most definitely and I hope to find other intimate places like this to stay in my future travels.

This is a beautiful little Inn, on a beautiful little peninsula, both of which have seen better days.
The grounds show years of passoinate collection of beach artifacts, interestingly arranged throughout the beautifully planted paths. The cabins are very small but are quite functional. Unfortunately upkeep has been poor. Mattresses are very very old and lumpy, showers are run down. Screening is marginal and biting insects require the use of insect repellent at night.
The country is not known for its beaches and those along this area of Belize are littered with washed up trash. It was obvious that Singing Sands had periodically attended to this issue, as their section of beach had less trash than others, but still dozens of bits of trash littered their 200ft beach front. A walk beyond this area through less attended beachfront was simply depressing.
The staff is lovely and you will thoroughly enjoy spending time with them. Some know a lot about the area but do not count on them to advise you on resources or to facilitate bookings. The owner was not on location when we were there.
The food is simple but good. With a small staff, variety is limited. They have an honor system policy with beer and soda. Just take what you want and mark it down. This contributes to the overall charm of the place and the relationship with the staff.
We found the town of Placencia (7 miles away down a very rough road) to be charming and spent many of our days there.
There is an amazing amount of construction going on in the area. Huge homes and complexes are being built all around. In many ways they are changing the nature of the penninsula quite drastically. The mangroves are being bulldozed and artificial channels are being dug to provide ostentatious resorts boasting such claims as: "Paradise has an address".
If you are not looking for a spectacular beach, and have a car or don't mind the $ for a cab, AND if they fix the mattresses, this might be a nice place for you.
Get there fast though.................paradise is moving in.

My husband and I just returned from a vacation to Placencia. We
stayed 5 nights at the Singing Sands. This is a beautiful small resort with a warm and helpful staff, most concerned with our comfort and helpful with suggestions to make the most of our stay in the area.
The grounds are full of exotic plants and the resort includes a restaurant/ bar, a pool, a sandy beach with an inviting dock. The cabanas are clean, simple and comfortable. Lots of hammocks and lounge chairs for whiling away some time reading, sleeping and/ or listening to the waves and birds.
We enjoyed swimming in the ocean and the pool, walking the beach to nearby restaurants, canoeing out to a nearby island for easy snorkeling, as well as many trips into the town of Placencia.
Singing Sands was a a relaxing resort welcoming guests from the US, Canada and all over the world. We would strongly recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy this area of Belize.

I absolutely fell in love with this place. I actually considered buying it since it's up for sale. But having just started grad school it's not the best time to make a huge investment.
The food is fabulous. One night some of the guests and I went down to Robert's Grove for a dinner, but I really missed the food we had at SSI's restaurant. It was delicious, local, and authentic.
The cabanas are darling, clean, and comfortable.
One of the owners is an amateur biologist and has planted the most gorgeous and interesting plants all over the grounds. I pointed out one of the trees which he told me was a Key Lime Tree, and after I told him how much I love Key Lime Pie he had the cook make one the very next day. Both the owners and all the staff were very accomodating and did everything to arrange trips, transportation, advice, or whatever you need.
The climate, view, are fantastic. They have a canoe that I rowed out every other day. The bartender loaned me her bike one day which I rode 15 miles round trip into town one day. It's not the best road, but what else are you gonna do on vacation in a tropical location. It's great exercise and there's plenty of time to waste!
It's more removed from the little town than places south of the airstrip, but in my opinion the town was someplace to visit for the day, not the entire trip. If you want sun, hammocks, ocean, breeze, and total relaxation, this place is it.
