My husband and I spent a week at the Green Parrot Resort in May of 2008. We enjoyed everything about the resort and Placencia. Staying in our on private "beach hut" was really neat. We were just feet from the water and we had everything we needed to relax and enjoy. The staff are kind and friendly and we felt like we had known them for years. Ruben and Leo greeted us with big smiles and made us feel like their only goal was to make our stay comfortable.

We got to meet other folks there (our neighbors) and it was fun seeing them in the morning at breakfast and then at night for dinner; comparing our daily adventures!

The only thing I would change next time (and there will be a next time) is to pack less cloths! Casual and comfortable is all you need to think of while packing!

Enjoying the evening breeze while in the hamock on our porch was a favorite. It only took about a day to let go of the stresses in life and forget all about cell phones, computers and TVs!! Our beach hut provided a fantastic view and we had everything we needed.

There are lots of things to do. The waters are incredible and snorkeling is the best ever. You can be as active as you care to be. We did the Monkey River trip which we enjoyed very much. The guides know so much and we saw and learned alot.

We have a few friends who have been and everyone has had a wonderful time. It was really a stress free vacation for us and that often is not the case.

My husband and I just returned from a stay in Belize at the Green Parrot. The one thing that struck us was how welcome and at home we felt right away. The management of the hotel was a very warm (no pun on the temperature) and welcoming group -from Leo at the front desk to Ruben at the bar.

Ken and I agree with the previous reviewer - Stud and Linda - this place is a gem.

It is well maintained - they had just completed the cleaning of the cabanas that they do every year - so all was very clean and comfortable. Beaches are well maintained. The landscaping is very tropical. Food was well preapared. We had some great discussions with Isabella, the cook.

We also understand that the dirt road is going to get some attention - sometime. But that too is a part of the charm - rather rustic. We came down to check out a potential development north of the Green Parrot - one of those mega complexes. While it may have all of the amenities that many travelers want - we found the small town feel of the Green Parrot to be great for our purposes.

We found the spot to be very relaxing. We intend to come back and shop for property - but will always have a fond memory of the quaint Green Parrot.

The Green Parrot is awesome and amazing, but quite remote. IF and only IF you know what you're getting into, and you're not expecting a resort experience, you will love this place. We heavily researched it and felt like we knew everything about it before we got there. That was wise. As a result, we had a wonderful time. The resort staff is very attentive, personable and friendly, and will do anything for you at any time. Want shrimp or lobster for dinner? Just let them know. Tours? Where do you want to go? Leo and his crack staff will ensure you get there - even if they have to take you themselves. We went to the Monkey River like many other reviewers and it was wonderful. Well worth it.

When we arrived at the resort, we were literally the only guests. We had our choice of cabanas, and chose one of the smaller ones. Additional guests didn't arrive until 3 days later. The rooms are comfortable, but a little hot and sticky in the summer when we were there. There is no air conditioning anywhere we went in the area. The Belizean people all told us they don't like it so they don't have it. However, there are ceiling fans most everywhere and this helps a lot. Bring your coolest most casual clothes though. You'll be sweaty a lot and you'll be glad you did.

One experience absolutely not to miss is the local bus, which costs $1.00 US each way to town or back. It was one of the most enjoyable things we did and we have stories about it that still make us laugh out loud. It was one of those "had to be there" experiences, but good fun.

There is a beach bar at the Maya Breeze next door, built in January 2008. It's nice to have it there, but it's very noisy well into the early morning hours - one morning till 5:30 AM. The Maya Breeze staff including the owner are there from late morning on drinking heavily and turning the music up louder and louder. This is the one drawback to this otherwise peaceful place. It's nice that you can get a drink there, and they even let us use their pool, but the party rages every night. I hope this situation is resolved soon.

One thing we worried about going there in the summer was the potential for mosquitoes. This is not an issue at all, and barely noticable. The only time we had to use our bug spray is when we went on the Monkey River trip to the jungle.

All in all, the Green Parrot is great fun if you're up for an adventure - and we were. I can't say enough good things about the top-notch staff, facilities and pretty location. Oh yes - and we never ever felt pressured to eat there. Everyone was most gracious all the time. Good job Leo and staff!

Guaranteed you will feel welcome and find yourself immediately unwinding as you enter this mini paradise of soft ocean breezes. Fantastic "laid back" atmosphere especially when you are sipping on one of Reuben's rum punches!!! We loved the cabana with all the screened windows for a wonderful sea breeze along with our own front porch hammock. You are right on the ocean where the sand is raked every day so everything is very clean. This is an ideal place to relax and take in the sun and the sand as you walk along the beach. Make sure you eat at their excellent open restaurant - the food is delicious. We took the Monkey River tour and really enjoyed it. They picked you up and returned you to the Green Parrot. We stayed at the Green Parrot for only 2 nights but plan on staying longer when we visit Belize again. If you enjoy nature, you will love this place - lots of tropical plants, too. We stayed there the first of April, 2008 and there were no bugs - just lots of pretty singing birds!!! Stu & Linda, central NY state.

Our family just returned from a 2 week visit to Belize - our first trip there. The last location that we stayed at was the Green Parrot, and it was far and away the best location we stayed at.
First the staff was just so warm and friendly. They gave us good tips about tours to take and talked about the local area and how it is developing. Leo would spend time at breakfast talking to us about the events of the day - and what he thought the weather was going to do. At night, Ruben would mix us a tropical drink at the bar and talk with us about the Mayan civilization. The staff that cleaned the cabana was warm and friendly.

We liked the fact that each of the cabanas was a separate unit. That way it is a bit more private. All of the cabanas are right on the beach, which made it easy for the kids to play in the water - they have a wonderful beach at the Green Parrot. The best we saw in the area.

We had great meals at the restaurant. This time of year the tourism is slower in the area - so the meals were limited to what came into the resort fresh for the day - fruits, veggies and fish. The staple seems to be rice and beans, which is quite good. The fresh coconut deserts are just wonderful. We all loved the open air restaurant - it rained one night and they had to drop the cover to keep the rain out but it made for a very tropical experience.

We met a few other guests, but it was not all that busy. We did meet a man named Ray, like us he was from Canada. He said that he built the resort back in the 1990s. and sold it to the current owners. Ray is from Saskatoon. Seems like a lot of Canadians like to live and visit in Belize.

We also did some wonderful tours - Monkey River, snorkeling, Mayan ruins, just to name a few. The road north had the bridge washed out and we had to use a temp. bridge to get to the Mayan ruins - I guess all part of the charm of visiting a small tropical country.

We could write more - but want to give you a sense of the facilities. They are clean, well maintained, you get a lot of attention from the staff. We also felt safe. We were also lucky to be there for a wedding - it seems like an ideal location. I am sure the couple will have wonderful memories. It works well for families and couples.

If we every return to Belize, we will surely put the Green Parrot on our list of locations to revisit.
