I have just returned after spending a week at the Green Parrot. It is a lovely place to just relax and kick back. They did say on their website the there was air conditioning but there was not. This didn't really seem to matter however as the ocean breezes were usually blowing sufficiently to keep everything quite comfortable. And there was a ceiling fan in the cabana as well. I enjoyed the hammock on the front porch of my cabana and spent alot of time laying in it relaxing! The view from the front door was great, beautiful palms with the ocean behind them. I was a bit disappointed in the beach itself there; while lovely for the area it did not compare to the beach at my hotel in Cozumel where you could snorkel in pristine, crystal clear water with a white sandy bottom. At Green Parrot beach the water was quite rough nearly every day and muddy looking, I did not ever see anyone snorkel and a few attempted swimming but didn't stay in very long. There are men who rake and clean the beach itself every morning so it is well kept. The restaurant has great food, I want to tell you that the oven roasted, herb stuffed fish was the absolute BEST that I have ever tasted anywhere! Also the Green Parrot garlic shrimp was remarkable and very tasty! Reuben the bartender is a joy. His manners are impeccable and he is always, always polite in a calm and quiet sort of way. If I were to stay at the Green Parrot again I would definitely try to rent an SUV because the place is 9 miles from the village of Placencia and a taxi costs $20 US one way. There is a bus that goes by at 12 noon every day and comes back at 1:30 so it is possible to take the bus in and the taxi back or vice versa. The buses in Belize look like old school buses that someone donated to the country for transportation, honestly. So if you don't care about going into town and are just looking for a quiet beach house to relax in, this is the place! Leo the manager does arrange day trips for you however sometimes you have to wait a few days for one as he has to have at least 4 people before he will book you. So I did have to wait a couple days for my trips to the Jaguar Preserve and snorkeling at Laughing Bird Caye. The other bad thing is the road, it is not paved, it is red dirt, DUSTY and BUMPY do not even begin to describe its condition! And it is like that all the way to the mainland so every time you want to go inland to see something you have to endure that terrible ride. It does definitely add to the remote feeling of the peninsula!! But I would in the future probably stay someplace inland if I wanted to explore inland places.
