Beautiful stay - AWESOME for families! Marriott or Hyatt this is not - which is why we chose it: UNIQUE, CLEAN, but slightly rugged beach huts! Anyone who wants more, or a boring regular chain can turn back now. You could pay more than $750/nite/villa up the road and highly unlikely you will have a more enjoyable stay. Rubin, man of many talents, made sure he was always available for any and all our questions & totally at our service. (cut down a coconut for the kids and hacked it open!) Unless you want to stay put only at the parrot, i would highly suggest a suv rental. We went into town each day - totally fun: purple space monkey, tipsy tuna, barefoot bar, groceries, gas, deli, gelato, and the #1 rated food (by conde) french connection. Many other resorts are fun to visit as well, like the turtle and roberts grove, calico jack's, ect. Overall, a very fun & unqiue experience had by us & our 2 kids.

After a breakfast of freshly squeezed OJ and individually prepared omlettes, we need only take a few steps across the white sand beach from our delghtful grass-roofed elevated bungalow to put our toes in the 80 degree water, sip an umbrella drink or flop in a chaise and read a book under a swaying palm. Rarely another person to contend with. Leo, the ever-ready-to-please manager, having asked us what he could do for us that morning (as always) had set us up the day before with a private snorkeling tour to a tiny island with a reef offshore. A BBQ chicken lunch and a fabulous "underwater" tour guide made the day perfect for our experienced snorkelers and our first-timers.
The Green Parrot is an intimate resort in a tropical setting with excellent food. Dinners served at "moonrise" in the open air patio/bar were casual, caribbean-style cooking- always tasty. Some beach houses have a delightful "shower under the sky" bath facilities, all have porches with hammocks- all give you the feel you have landed in paradise. Don't come to the Green Parrot to "race from one tourist activity to another"- this place must be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. The Monkey river tour was worth the day-long trip (Jeremy was an informed and entertaining guide). We also had a good bonefishing guide that was arranged by the hotel.
All in all, this was a great getaway and a very good value. From what we heard from others, we were glad to have skipped Belize City and the overcrowded Ambergris Caye scenes.

I cant say enough good things about the Green Parrot. We came to Belize to fish and just relax. What we liked most about the Green Parrot were the individual cabanas. We had a great view of the water and cold fish off the dock in the early morning.
The sun comes up around 6am.
Each day the cabana was cleaned and the linens were changed.
The restaurant is quite handy. They serve 3 meals a day. The menu is limited, but hey, they only have 8 cabanas, so you get used to eating the meal of the day.
Ruben is a grand chap. He is the bartender and since he is Mayan, he knows all about the countries culture. He pours a fine cold Belikin beer - the local brew, after a long day of fishing the lagoon.
We had no complaints about the service. All you need to do is talk to Leo and ask about what to see and where to go. Time at the bar is fun in that you get to meet some of the locals.
Along the road you see a lot of development going on. Cant say that it looks all that good - they are cutting a lot of mangrove and building homes and resorts that look like they are right out of Miami. I guess that is what we liked so much about the Green Parrot - I would have to say that it is a traditional "Belize" resort. Quiet, laid back, friendly and no pressure.
We hope to make this into a stop on our future travels to Belize.
IKeep up the good work!!

“Horrendous 5 nights experience”

Green Parrot Beach Houses

We arrived at Green Parrot expecting better standard of accommodation than we got. We had a choice between 2 units, we choose the one with the loft as it had more space. Though not impressed with either. Dark, gloomy it was very delapidated and worn. The bathroom was gruesome, no hot water in shower that dribbled. The water in the taps and flushing was a horrible brown color. Not quite what we expected for $175 p/n.

Due to a cold front coming in we were not able to snorkel or spend time on the beach for first few days and found the cabin too dark to read in, even with lights on.

We ate one night at the Green Parrot - our first night - and not impressed either with the limited menu or the food quality. For vegetarian, they did try to accommodate, but not very impressive. Next night was BBQ night, i think the veggie options were beans, lettuce. We found it expensive, US pricing but certainly not US standards

The main reason for our major discontent with Green Parrot is the cost vs quality & standards received. A taxi from Green Parrot to Placencia costs $40 each way which is rediculous.

Would not recommend either Green Parrot or Placencia to anyone.

The Green Parrot is by far the best place to stay when visiting the Placencia Peninsula. The beach houses are delightful, the food great, and the staff is amazing, especially Leo who went out of his way to make our family's stay memorable. Belize is a beautiful country - try to see more than the coastal beaches. The interior of the country is stunning and a few days snorkeling off one of the cayes is a must!
