After a breakfast of freshly squeezed OJ and individually prepared omlettes, we need only take a few steps across the white sand beach from our delghtful grass-roofed elevated bungalow to put our toes in the 80 degree water, sip an umbrella drink or flop in a chaise and read a book under a swaying palm. Rarely another person to contend with. Leo, the ever-ready-to-please manager, having asked us what he could do for us that morning (as always) had set us up the day before with a private snorkeling tour to a tiny island with a reef offshore. A BBQ chicken lunch and a fabulous "underwater" tour guide made the day perfect for our experienced snorkelers and our first-timers.
The Green Parrot is an intimate resort in a tropical setting with excellent food. Dinners served at "moonrise" in the open air patio/bar were casual, caribbean-style cooking- always tasty. Some beach houses have a delightful "shower under the sky" bath facilities, all have porches with hammocks- all give you the feel you have landed in paradise. Don't come to the Green Parrot to "race from one tourist activity to another"- this place must be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. The Monkey river tour was worth the day-long trip (Jeremy was an informed and entertaining guide). We also had a good bonefishing guide that was arranged by the hotel.
All in all, this was a great getaway and a very good value. From what we heard from others, we were glad to have skipped Belize City and the overcrowded Ambergris Caye scenes.
