This was our 1st time in Belize, the Green Parrot in the Placencia Peninsula was exactly what we were looking for, best set up in the area, beautiful beach cleaned every morning, quiet area, modest but clean accommodations.
The food is simple and tasty, they offer great specials for dinner.
Leo and his staff were exceptional in every way.
A special thanks to Reuben for his personal attention to all our needs.
We hope to be back next year.

We spent a week at the Green Parrot and cannot say enough postive things about the staff and overall feel of the place. We were greeted upon arrival my the mananger, Leo, who instantly made us feel comfortable and relaxed. Our cabana was very close to the very kid friendly beach and was comfortable and well cared for. The main dining area has a great view of the water and is quite beautiful. The complimentary continental breakfast was excellent and satisfying (killer banana bread, fresh fruit and excellent coffee) and the ala carte menu was superb. It's really a great place for a beach vacation. We were content to chill out with our books and sun tan lotion for the most part. The one trip that Leo arranged for us, a day of scuba off the Silk Cayes, was excellent. The Monkey River Trip got great reviews from people we met. We'd go back again in a heatbeat.

Green Parrot Beach Houses

My husband and I spent some R&R after his return from Iraq at the Green Parrot and it was absolutely WONDERFUL! Dave and Linda gave us an excellent military discount and the whole experience was fantastic. The staff was incredible, the food was delicious, and the beach was immaculate. My only complaint was the bugs, but if you decide to visit a country surrounded by a rain forest, you can't expect to leave without a few bites.

Leo arranged several excursions for us including Xunantunich (Mayan Ruins), snorkeling, and the Monkey River tour. While all of the tours were fabulous, if you have to pick one, definitely do the Monkey River tour. Our guide delivered on everything he promised. We saw dolphins, manatees, crocodiles, bats, numerous kinds of birds, and of course several troupes of howler monkeys.

Probably the highlight of our trip was a birthday party that the staff threw for one of the guests (who turned three years old). Two cakes, amazing grilled cheese sandwiches, several plates of french fries, a pinata and a gorgeous ocean view...What more could a three year old ask for! The adults also had lots of fun taking a crack at the pinata. :)

The Green Parrot is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation and I can't say enough about how amazing the staff are! Leo, Rueben, and everyone else work very hard to make sure every guest is pampered, yet also give the Green Parrot a wonderful family feel.

If you are going to Placencia, the Green Parrot is the place to stay!

My friend and I were in Belize for a very active holiday and we finished off in Placencia, where our travel agent had booked us at the Green Parrot.

We couldn't have been more pleased with Seagrape, our airy thatched-
roof cabana. The bed linens were starchy-white clean (and we think they changed them everyday!), the bed was comfortable, we loved lounging in the hammock on our front porch, and the outdoor shower was a nice novelty. The beach with a private pier were only yards away from the steps of the cabana. We went to sleep to the chirping of crickets and the lapping of the waves and woke up each morning to watch the sun rise over the sea.

The Green Parrot also has a library of books and a cache of board games that guests can borrow during their stay. We didn't make use of these, but it was nice to know that we had the option.

The staff are incredibly hospitable. Leo, the manager, especially took good care of us, calling and checking on tour pick-up times and double-checking our flight to make sure that we were confirmed on the prop-plane out of Placencia; he even drove us to the airport himself.
A guidebook we had said that some guests reported being pressured to eat at the Green Parrot. Happily, we felt NO such pressure - Leo was happy to make reservations and provide directions when we asked. We did also eat at the restaurant during our stay - the beef nachos are a particularly delicious staple on the menu (warning - it's a LARGE portion), which has changing nightly specials.

If you're not very familiar with the Placencia Peninsula: Maya Beach is in the northern part of the Peninsula, and so is actually a 25- to 30-minute taxi ride over a very bumpy road to Placencia Village at the southern tip. If you absolutely want walking access to the Village, this is not the place to stay. If on the other hand, you want peace, quiet, and the ability to see the stars twinkle madly at night, then this is it.

A very minor note: the resort is pretty eco-friendly, so don't expect hyper-processed, chlorinated water from the showers and taps. There is a separate tap for potable water.

The Green Parrot was a really wonderful resort, run and managed by warm and caring staff; we left Belize with the best possible memories.

“Shocked on Christmas Day”

I read about the Green Parrot in the New York Times Travel section and was looking for a moderately priced lodge on the beach in Belize. When my family and I arrived on Christmas Day, we were shocked at the condition of our beach "house." The dark gloomy A framed cabin was set far back from the ocean and consisted of one room with a loft. It was situated directly adjacent to a parking lot and the busy road. Three of us slept in the loft and my son slept in on an ancient rusted pull out sofa on the main floor. It took three of us to pull out the bed. The interior was so dark, even in mid-afternoon and even with the sparse lights, that we could not to determine whether it had been cleaned or whether the sheets were fresh. We could not even read in the cabin. The bath room was part of the main room, behind a half wall, with no door. The toilet did not work and there was no hot water. To reach the bathroom in the middle of the night, we had to climb down a narrow flight of unlit stairs. If we had problems with balance or were in a hurry, we could have gotten seriously injured on those stairs. Breakfast was suppose to come with the room. Breakfast was pitiful. The coffee tasted like dirty water and the bread was stale. Although we were booked for 4 nights at the Green Parrot, we left the next day at 8 am. The manager promised us that we would only be charged for the one night we stayed. My son had over 100 flea bites from the pull out sofa. When we returned to USA, I checked to see whether my credit card had been refunded for the 3 nights that we did not stay at the Green Parrot. No luck. When I contacted the owner of the Green Parrot, I was told that they would not refund our money. This was the only experience in our 10 days in Belize that was horrible. The Green Parrot website is misleading and our holiday was almost ruined.
