“Great place for a first visit to Belize!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2011

We found a great deal online for 6 nights at Roberts Grove- The staff was so friendly and helfpul on our visit. They had free bikes for visitors to use and a free shuttle to and from the placencia airport. In fact , they even helped us with our connecting flight from Belize City to placencia. The restaurants were just average and somewhat over priced, but it was a fun atmosphere. The tours (we did a Monkey Tour and a Mayan Ruins/Cave tour) were run by to quality locals. It is a great place for a first time visit to placencia.

My son and I spent the last week at Robert's Grove in Placencia. The hotel is lovely and the staff are great. This is a wonderful place to either totally relax, play hard or explore an amazingly different world than home. The hotel is located right on the beach and you are just feet away from the water. The rooms have large patios so you can just sit out there and read a book or watch the lizards. There is a spa with a great massage therapist and the food is excellent. But if you want to play hard there are kayaks, and catamarans and those little pedal boats so you can be occupied and busy. The best part though is the tours. Belize is an amazingly beautiful country and you can go out and explore it from here. We snorkeled at Silk Caye which is incredible. So many different kinds of fish. The water was a little murky but I remember it being very clear on a previous trip so maybe there had been a storm recently. We also went to see some small Mayan ruins and the Cockscomb jaguar preserve. Those trips included river tubing and a swim in a huge cave. Loved the river tubing. Loved the idea of the cave swim but got a little creeped out once I couldn't see the entrance any more. But the great thing was the tour guide, Juan Pau, who was all about making the trip whatever you wanted. He had a plan but was totally flexible about adjusting it to suit us. Monkey River with Doyle is also a great trip. You will see a lot of critters. Both Doyle and Juan grew up and live in the areas they guide tours to so they really know the areas and are totally comfortable there.
So even if you just want a relaxing vacation take a tour-Juan will let you skip the hiking and just tube down the river and that is relaxing and beautiful.
My only criticisms are about the lack of a real good gift and sundry shop. You are out there so the hotel does need to be self contained and is a little weak in that area. The second thing is that though the food is super good it can be a bit slow getting to you. Maybe they are trying to teach me to relax.

If you enjoy being away from the tourist crowd and being completely pampered, this is the country and Roberts Grove is the resort. After the seventh trip to this beautiful country with wonderful people we can't wait to return. We were alarmed at first that Bob and Risa had sold the property but after spending a week with Jean-Marc and his staff, WOW. Better than ever. We suggest driving down from Belize City and seeing the country, About a 4 hour trip by car. Now all paved roads. Placencia is a very diverse and wonderful area of Belize. Go if you can.

There is no denying that the location of this resort is unbelievably beautiful. We rented a 2 bedroom suite which I felt was way too expensive. We had to leave our place in San Pedro because of the hurricane which was suppose to hit that part of Belize so we flew down there. The room was over $400 US which I didn't think was worth it. The bedroom with 2 twin beds were too small for our teenage kids. You couldn't open the bathroom door all the way since the bed was in the way. After the first day, the toilet stopped working in the kids room. After 3 days of trying to get someone to fix it, I was told that at least we had a toilet that worked. I responded that for the price we are paying, I would expect 2 fully working bathrooms. We were finally told we could move if we wanted to pack up all our stuff. The staff is friendly and smiles a lot, but it's VERY hard to get the front desk people to help in any way. I loved Placencia but will NOT return to this resort.

Reading your review and concern bring to me has being the new owner since February and that we have chat a few time during your stay why you didn’t bring it up to me personally. In any event we have accommodate many unannounced guests on that particular moment due the potential storm approaching Belize and being our low season, we certainly didn’t have sufficient man power to respond to the numerous maintenance issue and was very preoccupied trying to maintain our secondary power system has the power was fluctuating due to the storm. As far as your rate it was $310.00USD per night plus tax & service charge.
$60.00 addition for extra 2 person in room - Total $ $440.30USD per night. If there anything we can do for you to minimized your unfortunate experience at Robert’s Grove Beach Resort please do not hesitate to inquire to me personally. Sincerely Jean-Marc

If you like great food, service and beach location you must experience the Saturday night buffet and live local music at Roberts Grove. A large spread of fresh fish, plenty of lobster (in season), pork, steak and much, much more...banana fosters desert is a must. It will run you $35 us pp, but well worth it, considering a lobster dinner in Placencia is $20-$25 us, and this buffet is all you can eat. They also offer complimentary dinner shuttle, just ring them and they will arrange pick up and drop off. Enjoy! We did not stay at the resort, but looks very nice.

We recently stayed at Robert's Grove for 5 days and had an incredible experience! We were working and vacationing, as we do in Placencia annually, and really enjoyed all the recent upgrades at the Resort! The free WIFI was such a help to us, and the pools looked great - food and service were outstanding! We will be back next fall!
