“Not just a tour..an experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

My girlfriend had her heart set on a tour of Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaguar Preserve while we were in Belize. She read some reviews of this tour company here and thought it sounded fun, so when we got to Placencia we sought Doyle out. (Its a small town, so people will point you in his direction or call him if you ask around. His family also run's Nite Wind Tours at the end of the street in Placencia, and I'm almost sure they will book his tours there too.) His tour starts with a pick up at your location and a short drive to a banana plantation where he will, "talk to you about...bananas". (Great sense of humor, hahaha!) Then he'll drive you to the Preserve where you can opt to stop and an authentic Mayan Women's arts & crafts center. We stopped and they had some very nice carvings, etc. Then he'll drive you into the Preserve and park at the welcome center where you'll receive a brief but informative history of the Preserve. This is followed by a jungle tour during which you will continue to be educated on the flora and fauna engaging all 5 of of your senses; yes, even taste. If you are fortunate and paying attention, you will see everything from hummingbirds, woodpeckers, lots of other birds (Im no birder), bats, tarantulas, monkeys and more! Jaguars are of course, elusive cats. The tour is followed by an awesome locally prepared lunch. (The welcome center sells soda and water.) Afterward you collect an inner tube and hike to the banks of Stann Creek. After a relaxing river float through dense jungle, you'll ditch the tube on a short but steep hike up to a waterfall. You'll hike down to the base of the falls and do some rock-hopping and river-running with a few natural rock slides in between. (This was unquestionably the most fun of the day for me!) You'll grab your inner tube on the walk back to the welcome center and leave it there. Finally, Doyle will take you back to your starting location for some much needed rest and reflection following this fantastic day!

“wonderful tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

short walk through the cocks comb jaguar reserve where you learn of the local fauna, how lots are used for medicines and the history of the reserve. all the while you can hear howler monkeys hooting off in the distance.
b
next you go tubing down the stann creek river, which was absolutely gorgeous.

but the highlight of the trip is definitely the natural water slides in the water falls... such a blast to sliding down mossy rocks in the middle of the jungle!

only bad part of this tour that i could bring to mind is the flies... some sort of bug ate my legs to pieces, even with deepwoods off applied.

do it.

“Zeff is a great guide!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Hiking through the rainforest, our guide Zeff, was great in highlighting plants and animals we would have certainly missed. Beautiful birds, toucans, bats, insects, plants, Holler monkeys, and the most beautiful butterflies! The easy hike to the waterfall was fun. We swam behind the waterfall to a small cave. The rock sliding down the river was a blast!

“Super.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

What a great experience we had. We walked through the jungle and looked at lots of different plants, trees, ants, other living things. We wanted to spot a jaguar but only got a fantastic foot print of one. I am sure they could see us though. Our guide William was awesome and was very helpful when I couldn't manouver my inner tube very well in the river. Lol It was a great experience and I recommend it.

“Best tour guide of the century!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

I went on Doyle's night time cockscomb jungle tour. It was pretty surreal to be hiking through the jungle in the middle of the night. We could hear the howling monkeys and lots of creepy crawlers. The jungle itself is just incredible and I would imagine it to be completely different during the day time. It was completely dark outside, so it was a great way to use all your senses to experience the outdoors! Although we did not see any Jaguars (which is probably a good thing in the middle of the night), it was definitely worthwhile. The best part was the tour guide, he was extremely knowledgeable and pointed out different types of jungle animals on the way. I couldn't have asked for a better tour guide. He was experienced, professional, and best of all very passionate about wildlife, the outdoors, and the preservation of Belize's natural environment. I also did a xunantunich mayan ruins tour with him where he showed the same courteous behaviour. Any tour you go on with Doyle is a guaranteed adventure and a great way to experience the outdoors! Overall, I was very impressed. Belize is an amazing country surrounded by jungle and ocean; the perfect paradise.
