great island to relax at and enjoy some snorkeling. Be advised the island is very small (only one hut for caretaker) and doesn't sell anything so bring food and drinks.
LBC is such a beautiful spot. Every year in April, Splash Dive Center works with SEA to organize the school kids to do a cleanup of the park - and as the SEA rangers do a good job of that in the area where the public can go, SEA opens the north end where the bird rookery is for one day every year for the kids to do a cleanup. The kids have a great time at the caye swimming and hearing about the environment and what their role is in addition to picking up 40 or more BIG bags of garbage - mostly plastic.
nearest caye, 2 non flushing toilets and bbq area. Coral was mostly dead with limited variety of fish so snorkling was poor. We visited by default as there were strong winds. This resulted in big waves and poor visibility at times. Overall not an enjoyable experience.
One word: Amazing. You don't need to dive too see the sea life in living colour. It is a long boat ride from Placenia but it is well worth it. It is a perfect way to spend a day.
Boat ride is short from Placencia hotel. Best snorkelling I have seen (snorkelled and scuba dive for 10 years all over the Caribbean), great diving close by. Feels like your in Robinson Crusoe, paradise in the middle of the ocean. When not snorkelling, be sure to bring a towel for the beach. Lots of picnic tables. Love to watch the 30 or so pelicans in action. Not a tour for an adrenaline junky, but truly a piece of paradise.
