“"Man, its like some dream we live down here"”

Coco Plum Island Resort

Jerry Jeff Walker wrote that in Belize, "it's like a dream we live down here." And he was right, especially if you stay at Coco Plum Island Resort!

Here are a few do's and dont's when you go:

Don't plan on anything intelligent coming out of your mouth after you have one of Stacey's Long Island Ice Tea drinks....
Do plan on choosing Felix on your volleyball team...you may not get a lot of points from him, but you will die laughing at his swan dives on the sand to get to a ball
Don't bet against the staff when they tell you that "Winston" is coming to dinner and he is a mouth flapping saltwater croccadile
Do bring the "skin so soft" for the tiny critters
Don't bring a lot of clothes....there are no signs that say "no shirt, no shoes, no service"
Do bring an appetite for great, Island food-Sue can compete with the best from the Ritz

Thanks everyone, for a great, great time!

“Just what we needed!”

Coco Plum Island Resort

I could probably write an entire page about Coco Plum, but the previous reviewer summed it up perfectly! My wife and I stayed at the resort for 9 days out of a 14 day vacation. We should have stayed the whole two weeks at Coco Plum, as the white beach, blue water, wonderful staff, good food, and all-inclusive package made this the most relaxing vacation possible! The guests also made this vacation unique, as everyone tends to get to know one another like family within a day or two. Of course, its also easy to keep to yourself and have a very private vacation at this resort if so desired.

Worthy of special mention: the staff worked for two days to prepare us a Thanksgiving dinner with all the extras and a bit of a Caribbean flair. First time I've had T-day in shorts and bare feet, and it was awesome!

Pros: Everything. Cabana was nice and private and clean. Excellent and super-friendly staff. Generous meals, seconds were no problem if needed. Close proximity to the reef for diving or snorkeling. All the beer and local rum drinks are included as are some inland and snorkel trips. Surrounded by blue water and white sand.

Cons: Sandflies (noseeums) can be annoying, but simply sitting in a breezy spot keeps them away. Bring powerful bug repellent and use it. Bring itch creme in case you get bitten. The resort does spray to keep the bug population down, which helps.

Overall: Only extra costs were diving (small upgrade cost from a snorkel trip), some higher end drinks (hardly needed), and tips. I can't say enough nice things about Coco Plum! Go!

I will agree with all of the positive reviews and none of the negative ones... our trip to Belize and to Coco Plum Island Resort was one of perfection!

My husband and I booked our belated honeymoon after finding Coco Plum on a google search. The reservation process was completely painless thanks to Michelle and Charlene. Our flights in and out of Dangriga were a breeze on Maya Island Air. Derrington (please forgive me if I've mispelled his name) was there to meet us at the airport upon our arrival. We took an impromptu tour through Dangriga while we waited for the next family to come in about 20 minutes later. Big D was a great tour guide and answered all of our questions about Dangriga. Our island-mates sooned joined us and we were off to the boat dock. The boat ride to the island was smooth with Seth as our captain.

The island is nothing like the pictures... it is MUCH more beautiful! The cabanas are clean and bright with all of the amenities that you would expect from home. Don't read the earlier reviews about difficulty with hot water... they have addressed those issues by adding water heaters. We never had a problem. Thank you to Ruby and the housekeeping staff for keeping everything immaculate.

The food was really great and we thank Susan for preparing the meals. Trina was an excellent hostess and was just wonderful to be around. We brought some trail mix, mainly for snacks on our flights, but they were nice to have on hand for a little pick me up. I don't think bringing the whole pantry is necessary, though. Trust me, you won't starve with three meals a day and snacktime at the bar! Byron was a great bartender and kept the Belikins and rum drinks flowing. The staff really makes this place sparkle... and I'm not talking about keeping the floors clean.

The inland tour to the Maya ruins was well worth it. Yes, the drive from Dangriga is about two hours, but you are driving through a beautiful, amazing country! Appreciate everything you see, and it won't seem so long. Thank you to Lyndon for being such a great tour guide.

As far as what others have said, YES, bring bug spray. It is a tropical climate... there are bugs. In the greater scheme of things, it wasn't a big deal to us. YES, ask who will be on the island with you, but come with an open mind, even if there will be children. For the majority of our stay, our island-mates consisted of 8 adults, a toddler and a teenager and our experience was enriched because of each them. We will miss you!

I had tears in my eyes as we left the island after six wonderful days. We will definitely return!

My wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary at Coco Plum. It was a fantastic trip. Normally we would wake up and have some breakfast and head back to the room to get ready for a snorkel trip or inland excursion. Lunch would be served around noon, which was normally a chicken or beef dish that was always very good. My wife doesn't eat red meat and they were always aware of that and tried to make it perfect for her and they succeeded.

Byron at the bar was a fun guy to be around and made great drinks. (Try the Coco Loco) Stacy was a fantastic waitress and she was also fun to hang around with when it wasn't meal times. Trina was also a spectacular server and always very professional.

Derrington took us on some inland excursions and he was another great guide to go along with the snorkel guides Seth and Lindon who showed us unbelievable snorkeling reefs.

Our cabana was always perfectly clean and they do a great job raking the sand every day to get rid of rocks and such.

Mid-afternoon before dinner we would get together with the staff and play some sand volleyball. Then it was time for a shower and a couple of drinks before dinner. We had some great lobster one night. Then after dinner, we would have a few more drinks at the bar with the whole group and retire to bed between 9 and 10. It was easy to fall asleep in paradise.

Then we would wake up and do it all over again. A great vacation.

“An UnBELIZEable vacation!”

Coco Plum Island Resort

All you need to do is look at the photos from various travelers to Coco Plum in Belize to realize how beautiful this island is!
As we approached the island for the first time, I immediately began to relax. We were welcomed with a fruity drink and escorted to our beach-side cabana.
We suited up and went for a swim right then and there! The water was clear and blue and warmer than what I am used to on the East Coast.
I would suggest bringing water shoes (although not so stylish they are great for wading around the waters where there are many rocks, pebbles, fish, etc.)
We took both snorkeling trips (which were included in our lover's getaway package) and we enjoyed both immensely.
On our first snorkel trip we even swam with a group of wild manatee! Amazing.
Also, I am a very picky eater (and I mean picky!) but I wasn’t hungry at all on the island. We brought a few snacks from the mainland, but breakfast, lunch and dinner were good.
I even tried lobster tail one night and it was delicious.
If you are particular about what you want to eat, you can always tell the kitchen staff and they will try to accommodate your needs.
The entire staff was great --- from our bartender Byron to our waiter Calbert and captain Seth.

Positives: Relaxing! (I never thought about work once!)
Weather was beautiful (don't listen to weather.com, they were wrong)
Friendly staff
Clean rooms
Beach front view!
Great photos and memories!

Negatives: If you want to stay busy all the time this is not the place for you - at CoCo Plum the key word is "relaxation!"
Stiff bed (I woke up with a back ache more than one night)
AC (they do have AC in all cabanas, although I wish they had a screen door so we could have slept with the door open some nights - which there was a nice ocean breeze).

We took a mainland excursion for ziplining. Ziplining was fun but cave-tubbing (which went along with the package) was less-to-be-desired.
We also visited a butterfly farm, which hosted a variety of beautiful butterflies.

Just take note: It took us one plane, a small plane and boat right to get to the island....but it was worth the trip!
