“Perfect Place in Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

We happened upon Almond Tree on the last leg of our 3 week stay in Belize, it was absolutely wonderful, Lynn and her staff and pets, made our stay the most relaxing part of our trip. We were treated like royalty! Phillipe the chef asked every morning what we would like for dinner and what time and dinner was always prepared exceptionally and served by Winston the delightfull bartender. The suite was perfect, everything we could have asked for. We will be going back for sure!

We enjoyed our stay and were delighted to see Rocky, the Coati mundi walk pass our door every day. Pepper the dog was a delight and very smart and our companion. Nevada was a real sweetheart. Having the dogs around made it so relaxing - it was like being at home. We were the only the guests for a few days and had the best of “a private” house and a staff. When other guests arrived it wasn’t as private (as another guest stated in their review) to leave the curtains open while lounging in our pj’s. The Internet is slow – so don’t bring the computer to work (you are on vacation!) Lynn helped us arrange getting some of our laundry done - which was a very nice service that we needed. Even though we weren’t on a schedule, we missed having a clock. There wasn’t a microwave, but the deluxe room has a stove which we did not use. We stocked up on water during our bike rides into town and the fridge keep things nice and cool. Lynn was very nice to work with and we greatly enjoyed our frequent visits with her. She and Bob are excellent hosts and enjoy chatting with guests. Tours from the hotel can be booked with VIP Transfer Service. We recommend the Cerros Maya ruins (right across the bay) and the Santa Rita ruins in town. Lynn helped us arrange a tour to the Lamanai ruins - a wonderful day trip! Sunny’s Ice Cream is a 20 minute walk and worth it! We ate at restaurant in the Almond Tree, which was very good – kudos to Filipe, their chef! We were also impressed with the attention that Wilson paid to us, making sure that all our needs were met during our stay. The restaurant doesn’t serve pizza (yet) so a short walk down the road to Blues was a nice change. We spent a lot time relaxing by the sea and by the pool. If you want a lot of action this is not a place to stay for a length of time….if you want to “veg” this is it!

Room Tip: We stayed one night in Efficiency #4 - which was nice. We upgraded to the deluxe room for the rest...

Stayed one night as we passed through Corozal. It is a beautiful resort. Quiet with a visit with from a local coatimundi who just wanted to see who was visiting his house. The room was large and vert clean. It was wonderful falling asleep to the waves breaking on the beach only a few yards away. There is a restaurant and bar on the premise and although I understand it is very good, we were the only ones there at that time so it wasn't busy at all. I felt like it was OUR house with our own cook.

My only reservation was that I did NOT like that the rooms have their doors and windows on the ocean that people could walk by to get to their own rooms. I would have loved to open the doors and windows, but I felt so uncomfortble that someone could walk by and see me in bed. So we opened the louvers a little and put the curtains in front of the doors. It is NOT a private place if there are too many people milling around.

Room Tip: There is a wonderful corner room that is a suite. A lovely room with a good value.

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay at the Almond Tree Resort for one night before our journey into Mexico over the Christmas holidays. What a beautiful place. The craftsmanship is unbelievable. The rooms are gorgeous. Wilson (the bartender) was very hospitable and lovely to speak with, as was Lynn herself. We had dinner at the hotel that night and it was remarkable (I had the shrimp curry and my husband another shrimp dish). Pepper (one of the two dogs) was adorable; we had a great time playing around with her at the beach, very friendly. As for the Coati mundi, we were not bothered by Rocky at all; mind you I didn’t really try to make friends with it either, but he was no bother. We really enjoyed out stay at the hotel and hope to one day return. We truly enjoyed our peaceful evening at the hotel.

I think I may have read this in another review but I couldn't have said it better myself; There is not a lot to do in Corozal but the Almond Tree is a great place to do it!
After leaving a somewhat dodgy hotel in Ambergris Caye, we caught the Thunderbolt to Corozal and were we ever pleasantly surprised when we pulled up in front of the Almond Tree to see the most immaculate, lush, and gorgeous garden and grounds. We met one of the owners, Bob, and Wilson, a very polite and articulate young man who showed us to our room. Once again, we were very impressed with all the custom furniture and attention to detail. We found out later that the majority of furnishings were made locally in Belize, some by native Belizeans, and some by the hard working mennonites who also live in Belize. As we were getting settled in, we heard a knock at the door, which turned out to be Rocky, the resident coati mundi, who was stopping by to greet us. My wife, whether intentionally or not, let her into our room, where she proceeded to investigate all the new (our) stuff. We were warned that Rocky likes sweet smelling things, and my wife has loads of that type of stuff. Soon, Rocky was immersed in her bathroom kit, and would not heed our requests to leave it alone, giving us some warning chirps which I recognized immediately. My wife was able to get her out of the bathroom by spraying some sort of body spray and then we saw the owner Bob, who was able to get her out of our room. Interesting!
We then went down to the bar/dining area and had some cocktails and dinner. Wilson makes the best pina coladas! We met the other owner Lynne, and she helped us organize a day trip to visit the Lamanai ruins. Lynne is such a hard working woman, she is not only the owner and manager, but served us drinks from the bar, and even prepared us breakfast and dinner the 2nd day we were there! All of the food we had was well prepared and fresh, at about half the price of the meals we had in Ambergris Caye.
The next day we went to Lamanai which is reached by a 20 mile boat ride down the New River. It was a fantastic experience, but seriously, I could have lounged by the pool at the Almond tree all day with the dogs, Pepper and Nevada, and been totally satisfied. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

We stayed a night in December, and my wife was also bitten by the pet coati mundi, but did not break the skin. The manager is not the warmest person in Belize to put it mildly. I will say that the hotel is the nicest place we stayed during our two week stay, the bed was comfortable and the property is beautiful. The hotel is small, not a resort by US standards by any means. If you are spending a night in Corozal, this is the place to be.

Our party of 10 dined at the Almond Tree Resort on December 29th, 2012. We had appetizers and drinks outside under the moonlight. The environment is very conducive to a quiet, relaxed dinner among friends. Four of our party live in Corozal and 6 were visitors from other countries.
Wilson, the bartender, was very attentive and Lynn, the owner, welcomed us on our arrival. We had another event to attend to that night and it was important to us to be served within a specific timeframe. Our meals arrived on time, piping hot and the presentation was excellent.

The variety of food was also appreciated as living in the area, we are well aware of the difficulties of finding fresh, good quality ingredients. The meals ranged from beef tenderloin, fresh fish, garlic shrimp, curried shrimp and coconut shrimp to name just a few.

Although we have not stayed in the resort rooms, we have been there for many social occasions and have enjoyed the pool and the outdoor gardens. We find this resort to be a peaceful place to spend time with family and friends. While some reviewers have mentioned Rocky, the cotamundi as a negative, others find him attractive. Personally, I am uncomfortable around him, not that he has ever bothered me, so I just ask Lynn to put him in his enclosure and that request has always been accommodated. On the night we were there, he was sleeping on the balcony and never moved from his place of rest.

As for lack of beach well, there really aren't any in Corozal District to speak of at any resort. The mosquitos are a fact of life everywhere in the Caribbean. In the dry season, they are not as plentiful as in the rainy season, when they can drive everyone indoors on a moments notice. Fortunately for us December is in the dry season.

Room Tip: This is a top notch private place to stay when visiting Corozal. It is well managed, beautifully dec...
