“Back again! Great again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

My second time to Parrot Nest in two years, and I will definitely be back! I really just enjoy the other traveler's that you meet here, Marcus and his staff, and Neda's lovely cooking. Marcus is the Trip Advisor guru and can recommend and set up anything that you need in Belize.

Most rooms use the shared sinks/bathrooms, which are clean. This is a lush, foresty environment next to the Mopan river, so be prepared and okay with the fact that there will be bugs, not unlike the rest of Belize. Great value for the price. Ideally located as a base for the many day-trip activities.

We will be back, Marcus!

We arrived at the Parrot Nest at the end of our trip and by this time we were exhausted. I wasn't sure what to expect (even though I had read up on the nest quite a bit before arriving). We ended up having a fantastic experience, one that was more unique than any other other place I've stayed. Marcus was a great host. The meals were fantastic (dessert included!). We ended up asking to stay in a different cabin than we had reserved and Marcus was more than accommodating. He genuinely just wanted everyone to have a great time. The highlight of the lodge were the animals. Nina and Pali are the resident hounds. After a long day of traveling its great to be greeted in the driveway by two wagging tails. There were also cats that Marcus had rescued, guinea pigs and a one legged parrot.

The second day we were there, my husband came down with a nasty fever. Marcus thought nothing of jumping in the car and driving to the pharmacy. The next day, Marcus drove us and some others from the lodge to the Pine Ridge Forest for a day trip and showed us his favorite spots. He also showed us some night life by driving us to a local bar. Basically, Marcus treated us like old friends and went above and beyond to make the trip great for us. We were sad to leave the Parrot Nest and know that if we're ever in Belize again, this will be our first stop.

Room Tip: We stayed in cabin 7 which had its own bathroom..I highly recommend!

We stayed for a week on our honeymoon.
Marcus went out of his way to personally arrange tours for his guests and was a fantastic source of information about the area and how to get around.
We took a different tour almost every day (ATM caves recommended even for a non-swimmer, horseback riding to Xunantunich was great fun and Tikal is only a couple of hours drive away over the border) and didn't get a chance or were too tired to do the river tubing, but everyone else was raving about it!
The dinners and breakfasts at Parrot Nest are very good - big portions and great taste! Guests just need to mark if they want a dinner on a chalk board in the communal area.
The fridge was always well stocked with beer and sodas, which guests mark on sheets of paper as they take them out.
Don't expect resort-style accommodation. Parrot nest is back to basics (but comfortable) accommodation in the forest. Be prepared for wildlife in your room (spiders and geckos) - we slept under a mosquito net, not so much because of mosquitoes (because there weren't many) but to make sure we didn't end up with a wolf spider in bed with us.
We had our own bathroom with hot water, which was nice and clean. We also moved to the tree house at the end of our stay and used the communal showers and toilets, which were also kept nice and clean, with plenty of hot water.
The Parrot Nest is a very nice and peaceful place and we would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something a bit different and off the beaten track.

We had an awesome 10 day trip to Belize at the end of June, starting with 4 nights at the Parrot Nest. There were 11 of us in 4 rooms. The jungle was beautiful and alive with all kinds of birds. We loved the fantastic breakfasts and dinners and hanging out on the patio watching the fireflies at night. Marcus was awesome, and the dogs & cats there are so sweet. Tubing on the river was a blast, and two of the dogs even came with us! If you need a guide, hire Teddy, who hangs around the Parrot Nest in the morning & sells jewelry and other art. He took us to the ruins at Xunantunich one day, and we were so glad to have him along! He organized cabs & transportation for all of us and gave us a very informative and entertaining tour of the ruins. We even saw a spider monkey there! Afterwards he took us to a great place in San Ignacio for lunch. The ATM cave tour is a must as well. Our time at the Parrot Nest went way too fast and there were still other things we wanted to do! Only downside: Bugs. Make sure to bring plenty of insect repellent. But they were a small price to pay for our adventure in paradise!

The place was amazing! Right next to the river with free tubing tours by Marcus. Great people and great atmosphere. Marcus is the best. He makes sure you have the time of your life, hooks you up with the best tours, and takes you out on the town. Parrots nest is a MUST. And the dogs are the best dogs in Belize!!

We found parrots nest to be a perfect spot for our time in Cayo. Although a close drive to San Ignacio it feels like you're really in the jungle. Theo helped arrange every activity, meal we had and everything was fantastic. She was the most helpful hotel owner we've ever had. Although you don't need to eat every meal there, it is certainly easy and the food is delicious! You do meet the other people at the hotel so I'm sure conversation can vary a lot based on who is there.
We stayed in a cabana and it was fine, nothing special but we spent very little time in our room anyway.

Thank you for everything!

We totally enjoyed our time at Parrot Nest Lodge. Theo was a lovely, warm, welcoming host who made sure all of our needs were met each day. We stayed in a fun little tree house, which had a comfey bed, and a fan was all we needed to stay cool each night. The river that runs through the property is clear and cool, and tubing it is fun and easy! We ate breakfast and dinner there each day at the communal dining table, where we met wonderful guests, shared our day's experiences, and ate deliciously prepared food! We had some great adventures during our stay in Cayo, and saw 3 wonderful Mayan ruins while there. Theo arranged for tours and taxis for everyone each day, and we are so happy that we chose this lovely place to spend our time in the jungle. Highly recommend it for the adventurous traveler. We will go again!

Room Tip: The tree house is fun, but you use a communal bathroom and shower. I would stay in one of the cabins...
