The Cahal Pech Village Resort is a hidden gem high up on a hill overlooking the pleasant village of San Ignacio, Belize. Even though we travel to Belize often, we had never seen this property. We booked a cabana with AC. The cabana was clean and comfortable, and we loved the thatch.
The food is outstanding, some of the best I have had in Belize, and I have been coming to Belize over twenty years. The staff is helpful and friendly, they made us feel at home. The swimming pool is exceptional and the view over the village is breathtaking. We highly recommend the Cahal Pech Village Resort. You will not be disappointed!

My wife and I honeymooned at Cahal Pech and we thought it was great. It may appear rustic, but the atmosphere, staff, and rooms are wonderful and accomodating. We loved the Cabana as the deck was a super cool way to watch the thunderstorms without standing in the rain. The resort also set up a great package of activities. I would highly recommend the tour to Tikal and, for the more adventurous, try the ATM tour. Also, the food is fantastic. The fry jacks especially.

All in all, I absolutely loved the Cahal Pech Resort, as did my wife. We would love to go back and wish we had more time in San Ignacio.

To the other posts: a 'seasoned traveller' would have no problems with this resort and would appreciate it as a great place to stay.

“Used them to Set up Tikal Tours”

I actually didn't stay at the hotel, and only saw it for 15 minutes when we stopped by. We used the hotel to set up private A/C transportation from Belize City to Tikal in Guatemala and then back again. They took care of all the details and made sure we didnlt have to pay for things once we paid for it all up front. Nice guys, good service, made the trip easy, even crossing borders, etc. i would definitely use them to organize future trips.

Ok, yes, the web site makes the cabanas look deceptively nice. The one we stayed in badly needed a new matress and the absence of overhead lighting was a pain. I was not at all impressed by the cabana, mainly because it was not what I expected. However, we booked everything through the Hotel (Lenny) and, compared to experiences of others in other locations, we felt like we got royal treatment. We were provided a friendly driver for each trip and a guide at each location. The guides we had were very knowledgable and friendly. The guide for Tikal had actually worked on the excavation 50 years ago and was very animated in his description of the discovery of the Royal tomb which he was a part of. Our guide to XUNANTUNICH, his father was the first curator of the site. The food at the hotel was ok, not great, but it was a LONG walk to town down and then back up a large hill for a better selection. What we received in service made up for what the hotel itself lacked.

I am a seasoned world traveller and I did not know what to expect prior to my arrival. The cabanas were a disapointment although they are currently renovating the interiors. The accommodation is very basic. The property is very noisy with barking dogs and traffic from the town below. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful however. There is a general lack of guest information so if you don't ask, you won't know what the routine is. There is very little information available on the various day excursions. The zip-lining and cave tubing at Jaguar Paw is a total rip-off for USD 130.00 per person. Jaguar Paw is an upmarket boutique lodge that is over-run with day trippers off cruise ships and from other hotels. We were rushed out of the dining room at lunch to accommodate others. The mosquitoes are a nightmare. We were eaten alive (August). The zip lining was very elementary compared to those offered in Costa Rica. The cave tubing was lame and again, we did not have the proper footwear to make the trek up river. Lenny (Cahal Pech Reservation Manager) did cut us a package deal that incorporated an overnight in Tikal at the Jungle Lodge. This is worthwhile as all transportation, guide, meals and visa fees are inclusive.
