“A Paradise in Belize”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

My wife (Bonnie) and I had the pleasure of staying at the Midas Resort last week. Our visit began with a very surprising and pleasant greeting at the airport by our host Michael. Our shuttle driver (Hugo) showed us many interesting places along our drive to San Ignacio. Upon arrival, Delmi gave us a warm welcome and showed us to our room. We were in the Deluxe Suite and it was delightful. Just like the pictures. Beautiful, clean, well appointed, good a/c, and a porch with a hammock. We booked our excursions thru Delmi, and she could not have been any nicer. A very helpful and kind lady who answered all of our many questions and helped us enjoy ourselves and keep us safe. We shared several meals at the resort and found them to be a very nice treat, and just what we wanted. The ladies in the kitchen were always attentive to our needs and prepared our breakfasts, and dinners with great care and pride. One night was Bonnie's birthday, and at dinner, out of nowhere came the owner Maria with a birthday cake! What a very wonderful surprise for her. And a good time was had by all! After a wonderful, relaxing, and very pleasant stay, our time was up, and we had to say good bye to all of the beautiful people that made our time there so GREAT! Thank You. We will be back!

We stayed at the Midas Resort for 3 nights. We liked it! But if you are looking for serious luxury, with no glitches, they aren't quite there yet. We totally lost water one night when it was pouring rain. A pump problem, we heard. I had to complete my shower with a cold 5 gallon jug of water, Lol. Hopefully that was just a random occurrence and isn't something that happens there often. There was no phone in our room and no room service for food, which we were fine with, we weren't in the room much anyway. There is internet service by the bar, pool, main building and cafe, but not in the back bungalows. And there were about 5 different internet passwords for every different location in the resort. They are upgrading their facilities, painting, adding art, and constructing new bungalows. The pool area is really nice and all of the rooms/bungalows were clean and nice. Its a quick 5 minute walk from the resort to the main streets of San Ignacio.

The food at their small cafe was good. We only ate breakfast there. But they have a menu for late night food delivery from another bar/grill just next door, and you can order at the Midas pool bar. All of their staff was very friendly and accommodating. The bartender was very sweet and made delicious drinks, although the service was a bit on the slow side. Be prepared to be laid back and patient (which is how you should be on vacation anyway).

We would definitely stay there again. I'm sure its only going to continue to get better, its clearly under good ownership and is being upgraded!!

My husband and I stayed there for 4 days the last week of August, 2013. Sure, this is not a very expansive "resort", but it is lovely, friendly, affordable and conveniently located. They are very proud of their green house and the large pool in front of it (with an outdoor bar right below the green house terrace). If you ask at the front desk, they will be very happy to arrange for activities in the area. They will give you all the tips and arrange the guides or you can walk the 5 minutes to town and walk into Mayawalk Tours and haggle with them for better price (they will likely give it, so don't book anything on-line ahead of time).
Ladies in the kitchen, super nice and friendly, make a great breakfast, but to be honest, the food is otherwise not really great. Eat breakfast there, but go to town for any other meal.
We stayed in the green house and had no issue with anything. The place is clean, service reliable.

Do expect that if you are out for the day, they will turn off the AC so that it doesn't run all day in an empty room. Yes, they conserve energy. If you're in that part of the world, you'll do a lot of eco-touring so don't be a snob about this.

Oh, there was a puppy dog that was coming to visit from the neighbor's yard in the morning. It didn't have a name, so we decided to name it "Fillipa." The staff was amused and promised to try to make the name stick. I am curious if "Fillipa" is still around. :)

This was my second visit to Midas and I had a great time. The staff and management made this a wonderful trip. Its an easy walk to the village market on Saturday and its something to experience ! Very friendly people both at the hotel and around the town . I highly recommend this hotel !

Room Tip: The resort offers both cabanas and the main hotel building . It is very clean, safe and beautiful...

I booked a Cabin for my family. It was cozy and Excellent Service. Has Restaurant, Pool and Bar. Easy Access to to find, and not to far away from the Mayan Ruin of Cahal Pech. Highly Recommended. A local Expert in Belize.

I booked the casita verde online and they charged me a different amount. When we arrived to the hotel, the receptionist explained to us that the price online was not the right price and they wanted to charge me the double of the price (it wasn't a problem to me at all) and I agreed to pay that. However, the casita verde was nothing like the pictures they showed online. My family decided to leave the hotel within 2 hours of checking in because the sheets and pillows stank and we found a lot of insects (specially warms) on it. The staff was not friendly at all. In other words... We don't recommend this place.

My husband and I stayed here for while in San Ignacio looking at real estate. Our cabin was located near the back of the property and had wonderful foliage giving privacy even while sitting on the porch. The air conditioner worked maginificantly. We even had to turn it off in the morning because it got so cold. The queen sized bed was very comfortable and the linens and pillows were in great condition. It felt very "homey." Although the bathroom was small, it served it's purpose. The hot water was plentiful and the tap water tasted great. We even filled our water bottles straight form the sink. The dining area is large and open and the food was fantastic!! We had breakfast and dinner there several times and actually waitied to eat until we returned to the resort. There were lizards all over the property during the day which my husband and I truly enjoyed watching. Our favorite was the bar. We stopped in several times and visited with Mike and had wonderful drinks prepared by Thomas. The conversation was light and entertaining and Mike gave us some good information about living in the San Ignacio area. The pool was clean and refreshing and the waterfall provided a wonderful backdrop for the conversation while sitting at the bar. Thomas always stays late so you can enjoy late drinks and a dip in the pool before turning in at night, especially if you are night owls like me and my husband. We inquired about a few day trips and the prices were excellent. The entire staff is friendly and warm and attended to all of our needs immediately. We both highly recommend staying there and plan on returning in the near future and bringing our kids. We will stay at this resort when we do. Many thanks to Mike and the wonderful staff at Midas. This was our favorite part of the trip.
