“Budget price, Budget Feel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

Elvira's is a convient place to stay that is off the bustle of Burns Street. It was more expensive than the guidebooks indicated it would be and to me was not worth the $25 US a night (had it been 15-20, I would have felt better about it). No thrills but clean. Hot water was difficult to get to work and not very effective. Difficult to contact the staff who run the place during morning and evening hours.

Great local place, central to the town. Helpful and friendly owner. No wi-fi but there was cable TV with a big selection of US channels (which was a novelty after 3 months on the road without TV). Would stay there again

Elvira's is a great little place. The owner makes definitely a difference. She's lovely and really helpful. Rooms can be a bit dark and small, but otherwise very clean and laid back. Make sure you'll get a room upstairs. They are definitely nicer than the ones on the ground floor.
Unfortunately the diner is closed now but if you ask the owner makes breakfast for you.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2008

We took Lonely Planet's advice and went to Elvira's for our first night stay in San Ignacio. However, for the second night, we slept elsewhere because this budget hotel is not very nice. It is cheap; $13 a night for a double room with no bathroom. But the hotel doesn't feel or look very clean. The shared bathroom smelled like urine and the shower didn't look very clean. I showered in my friend's private bathroom in their room, and there was no hot water. My room had a standing fan that didn't ocilate and the mattresses weren't comfortable.

I recommend to stay at a different hotel, which might cost a few dollars more but would be much better.

  • Liked — the price
