i spent a day here in early august.i went to belize for the big 50,and booked this tour the day before at evas.five of us rode in an izusu trooper on the cristo rey road out of santa elena.our guide was named rennie and jill from fia. and two sisters from ireland was the group. the drive took an hour thru some pretty country before passing thru the village of san antonio. at the gate to pine ridge are some pine trees, so changes are happening! the road continues uphill with the air cooler as we move along. the pine trees we see have been destroyed by the pine bark beetle, so it is sad to see dead mature trees. the village of augustine is former headquarters of loggers and home to a few folks. we saw horses in this village also. so we drive on to the rio frio cave. first we hike a mile long trail that identified plants and trees. the cave was a huge room with the river flowing thru it.next was the rio on pools and lunch. this was a swimming spot with slippery rocks! postcard scenery for sure. next up was big rock falls, another swim stop full of natural beauty.next was five sisters falls where we took a break. this was our last stop, so we drove back to san ignacio. it was well worth it, the guide very good with great company to boot. this day will be one i remember always!
