“Worth the Visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Although this visit was a late add on to our itinerary, it proved to be one of the memorable visits as it has aspects different from the other ruins we visited (Tikal, Xunantunich and Lamanai) to include the ability to actually walk into rooms thought to be used by the royal family. The tour guide on site provided a very thorough tour of the site. However, the only drawback to the visit was a miscommunication with the tour guide as we thought we were quoted the price in Belizean dollars (he approached us at the entry point where we were paying the entry fee in Belizean dollars) but at the end of the tour he stated the amount owed was in US dollars. A take away from this visit was to: 1) Ensure whether the quote is total or per person and 2) Confirm whether it’s Belizean or US dollars.

“Easy access - great first exposure to Mayan ruins.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Our kids ages 7 and 14 had never visited anything like this before, so we weren't sure how they would do. We had limited time in San Ignacio, but wanted to be sure our kids experienced their first ruins. While I found the information in the museum decent and worth taking time to read, the kids weren't very interested. The walk out to the ruins is nicely paved and a relatively easy stroll. Once at the ruins, the kids had a great time exploring and asking questions and climbing all over the place. So glad we took the time. They enjoyed the experience and so did Mom & Dad. The site is quite peaceful and you can certainly take whatever time you want to soak in the history. Definitely worth a stop when in the San Ignacio area.

“Interesting Mayan Ruin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Cahal Pech is right in the town of San Ignacio, so easy to access. The museum was minimal. The parts of the ruins that have been excavated are very interesting. It's important to have a knowledgeable guide to gain a full appreciation for this site.

“Fantastic Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

The museum is so informative . You learn about the Mayan history before seeing the ruins. And ruins there are!!!! We were very impressed on how well maintained the entire place is ! We had to come back for the 2nd day, there is so much to see and enjoy. Would advise bringing a picnic lunch.

“Smaller, but very intriguing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

My wife and I visited this Mayan ruin the first day we came to San Ignacio. We didn't arrive into town until about the middle of the day, so we didn't have much we could do before the sun would set. We learned that Cahal Pech was within a ten minute walk of our hotel. When we arrived, there really wasn't anyone there. However, that's what made it so awesome! This place may be "smaller", but it is extremely vast. The architecture is actually better than some of the bigger Mayan sites. We walked around for about 90 minutes, before we headed back. We could have stayed longer if it didn't get so dark. If you want to check out a Mayan ruin with limited time, Cahal Pech is great. Another idea is to check out Xuxantunich. It's "bigger" than Cahal Pech, and it's also within a few minutes drive from Cahal Pech.
