“Nice, but needs Improvements”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

The hotel is really nice, so are the people that work there...beds are so comfortable... rooms are nice and clean, spacious and the balcony is wonderful to swing in the hammock or sit in the comfortable chairs and look out on the nicely landscaped palm trees, shrubs and flowers, which attracted a lot of colorful birds, kara-kari (small toucan like) and the large toucan, and hummingbirds, and many others...very nice to sit out there with your morning cup o coffee.
In our room though, they should put another mirror behind the table, there is just blank wall space. And this way when 1 person is in the bathroom, someone else can put their make-up on, comb their hair, or see how you look. That is my only complaint about the rooms. My daughter and myself would have liked to hear more Belizean type of music instead of a local american radio station....play more "happy" caribbean type music..........
As nice as the hotel is, food is very good, servers, front-desk people, everyone is wonderful, friendly, helpful, courteous. BUT!!! i do think they should have a regular supply of water available to drink whenever you want, because the tap water in your room is not purified and not recommended to drink, therefore no coffee-maker in your room either....the water they serve you at your meals is purified, and good, but if you want any extra water bottles in your room, any coffee you drink.....$ $ $.....And it's hot and humid, you need and want water........
I think this should not even be an issue, i think it should be expected!!!! And again as nice as the hotel is, and the people, if you don't have plans to go and do something for the day, it is boring as hell, just sitting by the pool, laying in your room... there is a tennis court......but nothing else....no other distractions, like a ping-pong table, checkers table to sit and play, we read, but don't wanna do that all day... we walked to downtown San Ignacio....That was nice, but only 2 nice Belizean handmade, local arts and crafts, t-shirt, coffee etc... gift shops that we could find, variety of small restaurants, which we had breakfast at a SRI LANKAN place, nice...pretty good little restaurant, (coffee was free and delicious!!!!) we browsed and shopped and ate, then its a nice steep incline back to the top of the hill where the hotel is....it was fine, but i sure needed to take a few breather breaks...
I can say it was real nice, but you need to make plans for everyday, or even part of the day, because it gets really boring, just lazing around the hotel all day....personally i would stay at a all-inclusive place next time...more to do, can drink coffee, or juice, and some other refreshments, and eat when you want, and have way more to do....But this was ok, and loved the stuff we did and saw while in San Ignacio...I know you really should not compare vacations...But i am still raving about our previous trip to Costa Rica, and would do that again in a heartbeat.........But.....this was nice...we wanted to see Mayan Ruins, and we saw plenty...and were amazed and in awe of these ancient cities...Plan on doing the fun stuff too with Chukka tours at Jaguar Paw...that was an adventure.....I did very much enjoy Belize..

Room Tip: Choose a balcony room, that way you can enjoy watching the tropical birds from your comfortable chai...

If you are looking for a great hotel that has it all – excellent service, helpful staff, great food from the restaurant, great atmosphere in the bar, relaxing pool, amazing spa service, very educational iguana tour and medicinal trails, exotic bird watching while we dine; basically the full works! On top of all that, it is a stone throw away from downtown! As I walked in the lobby, I knew this would be a great experience! As I entered the rooms, I was greeted with lavish flowers in my room. The rooms were very nice and we had a great view of the Maya Mountains! I slept in an amazing cloud that they call a bed. I slept like a baby!

I also saw that there were pictures of the Queen’s visit. I was also told that Prince Harry was here in celebration to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee! At that moment I KNEW I felt like ROYALTY!

The exceptional staff went the extra mile all the time. They also helped me with setting up my tours and giving me great advice. I couldn't be more happier! I made the right choice to stay at San Ignacio Resort Hotel!

It is indeed one of the BEST (if not the best) hotel there is in Belize!!!

Room Tip: Dine on the balcony! You'll get a chance to see a variety of beautiful birds like the Collared A...

Sometimes you get lucky, we did when we ate here, the town was literally closed for elections and we had just arrived back from Caracol and were starving, The staff offered to open the kitchen even though it had closed for guests almost 30 minutes ago. The Menu offered many choices and we did have a pretty wide variety. When the servers brought it out to our party of 6 they smiled and were very gracious, we were never rushed, they never pushed. the flavors second to none the food all local has the most incredible flavors and the chefs do the country proud by offering Belizean food of this quality .. we would eat here again in a heart beat .. we did not stay here either this is what they did for the silly tourists who had not known what a closed town meant *L* ..they mean closed .. so check local dates for these types of things ..

Room Tip: food review only we did not stay here ... and the food was incredible ..

We recently made our second trip to Belize. Of all the places we have visited and stayed, this resort is the BEST! From the staff at the front desk, to the landscaping crew, to the restaurant staff; there isnt any place better to stay! The entire staff made us feel as if we were the only ones in the resort! We would like to say thank you to Haydee, Melissa, Jason, Rueben, Eddy and all of The Resort Staff!!!! We will see you all again soon!!!

The rooms are comfortable and clean. The patio and dinning area are comfortable. The staff is excellent and responsive. Everyone was friendly, the front desk, the bartender and the restaurant staff. Food was good and reasonable. Aaron in the bar makes an awesome mudslide. We stayed 3 nights during the off season, and staff made us feel like they really wanted us. The restaurant staff willingly provided us with breakfast before open hours on the day we went to Tikal in Guatemala. There is plenty to do in the area. Our group of 8 would definitely recommend this place.

The staff are excellent, from the restaurant waiters to the front desk and house cleaning. With typical Belizean polite friendliness they make you feel special and well cared for. The food is wonderful, and tastefully put together - dessert is dangerously good! LOVED that bedtime chocolate!

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights last week. Everything from the staff, to the rooms and quality of the overall service was outstanding. My husband ordered the porterhouse steak from the restaurant, not only was it great value, but the best porterhouse that he has ever had and it coverd the whole plate.
We did a tour from the hotel to Caracol with Cruz and the depth of his mayan knowledge was excellent. We also did the bird watching tour with Eddie and even though it may sound a bit of an "older" thing to do it was fantastic and every interesting.
From the hotel it was an easy 5 min walk to the town and 10 mins in the other direction to a mayan ruin.
The only critism that I do have is that we did a 9+ hour tour with the hotel and was told that there would be water provided for us. We only got one 300ml bottle each so my recommendation is to double check this or bring extra yourself.
We made good use of the pool, the hammock on our patio and the free wifi.
I would stay here again if I were to go back to San Ignacio!

Room Tip: Get one with a hammock!
