We stayed at 5 sisters for 6 nights in February and we loved it. We booked the honeymoon package, which is very convenient as all meals and tours are included. The waterfalls there are breathtakingly beautful and it is very secluded. The sound of the falls is all you here every night to put you to sleep.
The staff is very informative and willing to do whatever you need to make your stay better. The cabana was very large as it a bedroom and a futon, a separate, screened porch with chairs and hammock to look out at the sunrise or sunset and a view of the waterfalls. When we arrived there were fresh flowers everywhere. I highly recommend five sister's and can not wait to go back.

The road leading to Five Sisters Lodge is terrible (it took us more than an hour to go 17 miles), but once we arrived at our destination we didn't have a moment's regret about making the rocky, bumpy, pothole-studded drive. This beautifully landscaped, well-managed jungle lodge is truly heavenly. We stayed in the clean, colorful, very comfortable honeymoon cabana (we weren't on our honeymoon, but a little romance never hurts), which overlooks the lovely Five Sisters waterfalls. As soon as we arrived we descended the steps to the "beach" and swam in the perfectly clear, refreshing water at the base of the falls -- paradise on a sunny afternoon. We spent the rest of our one-night stay relaxing, reading, exploring the grounds, and walking the nature trail, which winds through the forest. No, the lodge's restaurant doesn't serve gourmet cuisine, but both dinner and breakfast were simple, well prepared, and delicious, and the setting and ambience were delightful. It was also nice to snuggle under a blanket at night -- the only time we did that in hot, humid Belize. Every staff member with whom we had contact was friendly, efficient, and helpful. If you visit Belize's Cayo District, by all means drive up to the lovely Mountain Pine Ridge and spend at least a night at Five Sisters -- it's off the beaten track, peaceful, quiet, and enchanting.

“Wonderful eco-lodge!”

Five Sisters Lodge

I would highly recommend Five Sisters Eco-lodge to friends.

We signed up for a 5 night / 6 day package with our 2 children aged 9 and 13. We had a marvelous vacation there.

Our simple cabin, set in a lovely flowering garden with little bridge, had a separate room for the parents with a double bed that was small, but comfortable. The main room of the cabin had another larger double bed and a fold out futon that worked best as a single bed. The generous screened porch had a hammock and chairs with views out over the forest. The openings between the floorboards meant that occasional bugs would get in, which made it more adventurous and allowed the kids to get close to nature. The temperature got quite cool in the evening (we were there for Christmas) and we used blankets at night. It never got very hot during the day, but was sunny and dry for the 6 days we were there.

The staff was warm and friendly and the manager, Nigel Richards, was especially attentive and responsive to our requests. Everyone made the children feel welcome. One of the staff even caught a hummingbird, which he showed the children before setting it free.

We would highly recommend signing up for the package of tours and we would not recommend any tourist negotiating the difficult roads on one's own.

Nigel's father, Elmo Richards, is a terrific guide. He took us to the ancient city of Caracol for a fabulous tour of the Mayan pyramids and then to Barton Creek for a canoe trip through the cave, a sacred Mayan site. We would also recommend getting up early to see Tikal on a long day trip into Guatemala.

All the trips are well-organized with good drivers taking us in vans with picnic lunches and often rewarding us with a swim in a waterfall at the end of the day. We also went swimming several times in the waterfalls below the hotel, which, though down a steep slope, are lovely and well worth the walk.

The hotel is charming, unpretentiousand surrounded by nature. It is simple, but has what one needs.

From the restaurant wrap-around balcony, one enjoys views of the waterfalls below through the trees filled with birds. The food in the restaurant is simple, but good. I especially liked the fresh fruit plate and freshly-squeezed juice in the morning. Some guests went to Blancanaux Lodge next door for a fancier meal, but we never had the energy or the urge to go.

Five Sisters Lodge gave us a wonderful introduction to the mountains, forests and Mayan treasures in Belize. We preferred being at the Five Sisters Lodge to being on the coast.

We stayed at Five Sisters for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. The biggest challenge to this place is getting there. It's located in the Mountain Pine Ridge area, accessible only by a poorly maintained dirt road which takes about an hour to drive the 17.5 miles. You will need a 4-wheel drive vehicle, if not for the large mud puddles then for the ground clearance it affords. We rented a car at the airport that did make it there and back several times, though it overheated if you had the A/C on and were going less than 20 mph; also, in a particularly large mud rut a piece of the bumper fell off as we got stuck, which serendipitously we were able to use under the wheels for added traction to get out. Needless to say, this road is not for the faint of heart. Most guests use ground transportation provided by the hotel; however, we prefer the freedom of having our own car. The condition of the road varies; the staff said that the current condition is the worst that it's been in several years.

We stayed in a luxury cabana. It was of ample size with a queen-sized bed with a decorative mosquito net, a water closet, and an alcove with hammock. Of note, the tub/shower is only separated from the main room by a shower curtain; it was fine for us since we were on our honeymoon but it might be a concern to some. They provided drinking water in a small leaky jug that was refilled every day. The water from the tap was slightly brown, but hot water was plentiful. From the bay window in the alcove, we could overlook the sloping jungle and hear (but not see) the waterfalls. We saw a few bugs during our stay, but it wasn't really a problem. There is a ceiling fan over the bed, and one outlet in the bathroom. There are sufficient lamps, and a candle was provided. Electricity is from an on-site diesel generator that tended to surge and dip, so you should be careful with electronics.

The room was very clean. Housekeeping came every day to change towels, make the bed, and thoroughly mop the floor. It is close to 100% humidity there, so everything feels damp to the touch, and it's impossible to dry clothes by hanging. All the cabanas, except for the Riverside Villa, are within short walking distance of the restaurant.

The grounds are very well maintained with elaborate floral bushes. There is a driveway that loops around, so you don't have to walk far with your bags to any cabana. You can hike down about 300 or so steps to the falls; it's very nice. There is a gazebo and hammocks down there. The climb back up was a bit strenuous. We never saw the tram working, and were told by staff that it's unreliable.

There's a restaurant on-site that serves 3 meals a day, as well as a bar that's open most of the day. The food is alright, nothing great but definitely edible. Most guests tend to eat all their meals there since it's so far to drive anywhere else. For dinner, there was usually 4 choices of entrees, including vegetarian. They asked you to preorder your dinner by lunchtime. This place would really be a first-class resort if it had a better chef.

This is a good place to stay if you're interested in seeing nearby Mayan ruins and waterfalls. We spent a day in San Ignacio, went to Xunantunich, and ate lunch at Erva's, which was very good.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The first night, we arrived late, after the office was closed, and close to when the restaurant was closing as well. Nigel, the manager, had the chef cook up dinner for us and showed us to our room, allowing us to check in in the morning. The rest of the waitstaff were very helpful in suggesting places to go. In the restaurant area, there is internet access available for $5 Belize per half hour. The only phone there takes calling cards only. This is also where you can book tours, although we didn't do any here.

“The Villa....Absoluting Amazing!!!!!”

Five Sisters Lodge

Wow!!!! I still cant get over how amazing this place really was!!! And for the price, it was something I would have expected to be at LEAST twice as much!! So beautiful, and romantic, Highly recommend for honey mooners!!!!!!!!! Me and my boyfriend spent two weeks in Belize, 10 days on the ocean, and 4 days in the jungle, and this lodge was definatly one of our favorite things!

We stayed in the Riverside Villa, and it was more beautiful than the pictures could ever show. All that space for two people, and its so secluded, you dont have to worry about anyone else being around!! It is a little bit of a climb to the main lodge, but I would say less than 10 mins to get there ( although it is a climb!!!!) And if you want, they will send a car to come get you as well, and that takes about the same amount of time. The privacy is worth it though!

The staff was some of the friendiest staff I have ever met. Always making sure everything was okay, helping, and recomending tours. We never even knew that someone was going to come in daily and clean our rooms, the did they 4 dishes that were in the sink, brought daily flowers and some food, and just tidied up all our mess!. I almost felt bad! And our last night there, they delieved the food to our house, so we had our own private candlelight supper, it was so romantic!

Like I said, the Villa is amazing, with your own private river spot in the back, and its sooo calming to hear it at night, and the insects too. We didnt find it too loud at all, but soothing. I mean you are in the jungle, what do you expect???

The only thing I would have to say was a negative, was all the insects. The first couple roaches, frogs, lizards, and scopions were a little of a shock to find in the house, but surprising, you got used to them. They are big enough, that they move slow! There were a couple of rips in the screens, so I think thats how they got in. You just tuck in your bed netting really tight at night, and its okay!

And actually another thing, is the road getting out there. I have never been on a worse road in my life. Bumpy, and long, but once you are there is it completly worth it!

I know bugs can be a bad thing, but I cant get over how wonderful it really was there. I highly recomment staying the Villa for a couple nights!!!
