We stayed at Five Sisters for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. The biggest challenge to this place is getting there. It's located in the Mountain Pine Ridge area, accessible only by a poorly maintained dirt road which takes about an hour to drive the 17.5 miles. You will need a 4-wheel drive vehicle, if not for the large mud puddles then for the ground clearance it affords. We rented a car at the airport that did make it there and back several times, though it overheated if you had the A/C on and were going less than 20 mph; also, in a particularly large mud rut a piece of the bumper fell off as we got stuck, which serendipitously we were able to use under the wheels for added traction to get out. Needless to say, this road is not for the faint of heart. Most guests use ground transportation provided by the hotel; however, we prefer the freedom of having our own car. The condition of the road varies; the staff said that the current condition is the worst that it's been in several years.

We stayed in a luxury cabana. It was of ample size with a queen-sized bed with a decorative mosquito net, a water closet, and an alcove with hammock. Of note, the tub/shower is only separated from the main room by a shower curtain; it was fine for us since we were on our honeymoon but it might be a concern to some. They provided drinking water in a small leaky jug that was refilled every day. The water from the tap was slightly brown, but hot water was plentiful. From the bay window in the alcove, we could overlook the sloping jungle and hear (but not see) the waterfalls. We saw a few bugs during our stay, but it wasn't really a problem. There is a ceiling fan over the bed, and one outlet in the bathroom. There are sufficient lamps, and a candle was provided. Electricity is from an on-site diesel generator that tended to surge and dip, so you should be careful with electronics.

The room was very clean. Housekeeping came every day to change towels, make the bed, and thoroughly mop the floor. It is close to 100% humidity there, so everything feels damp to the touch, and it's impossible to dry clothes by hanging. All the cabanas, except for the Riverside Villa, are within short walking distance of the restaurant.

The grounds are very well maintained with elaborate floral bushes. There is a driveway that loops around, so you don't have to walk far with your bags to any cabana. You can hike down about 300 or so steps to the falls; it's very nice. There is a gazebo and hammocks down there. The climb back up was a bit strenuous. We never saw the tram working, and were told by staff that it's unreliable.

There's a restaurant on-site that serves 3 meals a day, as well as a bar that's open most of the day. The food is alright, nothing great but definitely edible. Most guests tend to eat all their meals there since it's so far to drive anywhere else. For dinner, there was usually 4 choices of entrees, including vegetarian. They asked you to preorder your dinner by lunchtime. This place would really be a first-class resort if it had a better chef.

This is a good place to stay if you're interested in seeing nearby Mayan ruins and waterfalls. We spent a day in San Ignacio, went to Xunantunich, and ate lunch at Erva's, which was very good.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The first night, we arrived late, after the office was closed, and close to when the restaurant was closing as well. Nigel, the manager, had the chef cook up dinner for us and showed us to our room, allowing us to check in in the morning. The rest of the waitstaff were very helpful in suggesting places to go. In the restaurant area, there is internet access available for $5 Belize per half hour. The only phone there takes calling cards only. This is also where you can book tours, although we didn't do any here.

“The Villa....Absoluting Amazing!!!!!”

Five Sisters Lodge

Wow!!!! I still cant get over how amazing this place really was!!! And for the price, it was something I would have expected to be at LEAST twice as much!! So beautiful, and romantic, Highly recommend for honey mooners!!!!!!!!! Me and my boyfriend spent two weeks in Belize, 10 days on the ocean, and 4 days in the jungle, and this lodge was definatly one of our favorite things!

We stayed in the Riverside Villa, and it was more beautiful than the pictures could ever show. All that space for two people, and its so secluded, you dont have to worry about anyone else being around!! It is a little bit of a climb to the main lodge, but I would say less than 10 mins to get there ( although it is a climb!!!!) And if you want, they will send a car to come get you as well, and that takes about the same amount of time. The privacy is worth it though!

The staff was some of the friendiest staff I have ever met. Always making sure everything was okay, helping, and recomending tours. We never even knew that someone was going to come in daily and clean our rooms, the did they 4 dishes that were in the sink, brought daily flowers and some food, and just tidied up all our mess!. I almost felt bad! And our last night there, they delieved the food to our house, so we had our own private candlelight supper, it was so romantic!

Like I said, the Villa is amazing, with your own private river spot in the back, and its sooo calming to hear it at night, and the insects too. We didnt find it too loud at all, but soothing. I mean you are in the jungle, what do you expect???

The only thing I would have to say was a negative, was all the insects. The first couple roaches, frogs, lizards, and scopions were a little of a shock to find in the house, but surprising, you got used to them. They are big enough, that they move slow! There were a couple of rips in the screens, so I think thats how they got in. You just tuck in your bed netting really tight at night, and its okay!

And actually another thing, is the road getting out there. I have never been on a worse road in my life. Bumpy, and long, but once you are there is it completly worth it!

I know bugs can be a bad thing, but I cant get over how wonderful it really was there. I highly recomment staying the Villa for a couple nights!!!

We did not stay at the lodge, we stayed at the villa near the lodge. The villa was absolutely beautiful. The beauty of the villa is hard to describe. See the website for Five sisters and look for the Riverside Villa tab. The villa was so roomy for just two people! You are isolated from the lodge, but the staff was extremely accommodating! Instead of walking to the lodge they would send someone to pick us up - anytime you wanted.
Getting to the lodge sucks! The dirt road drive (45 min. of nauseating rockiness) was awful. At night you were in complete darkness and bugs everywhere and we still enjoyed ourselves. This is a fabulous place to stay even if we were a little freaked out by the scorpion in the closet and the giant cicadas or grasshoppers at night. The river and the waterfall right outside your villa is more than amazing - thank goodness because the falls noise out did the bug noise. The cool water was great for swimming, especially close to the lodge and the 5 falls. Carlos, the manager, gave us a personal guided tour of the grounds and explained the perfect places to jump in from the rocks and where to hang out under the falls! Again, the staff was awesome!
The food at the lodge was so-so and a bit pricey. We had one meal delivered. In our refig we had boiled eggs, jam, a loaf of banana break, sandwich meat and condiments with a fresh loaf of bread - isn't that awesome!
We wished we had stayed longer to enjoy a relaxing day sitting in one of the many hammocks instead of taking a trip to Guatemala, but the arranged trip was awesome. The lodge arranged for just one other couple to join us on the trip. We had a well-spoken, very knowledgeable guide to walk us around Tikal!!! The drive was long, but the drivers were great. Any time you wanted to stop, they would do it and walk you around or whatever!

The Five Sisters was a great place to stay in the San Ignacio area. Right down the road from the fancy Blanceneax (spelling?) Lodge, the resort has some of the most beautiful views in the country. The grounds are well maintained, the cabanas are quaint and comfortable, and the staff is a pleasure! Nigel was eager to help us put together a trip to Tikal, and the trip was such an excellent value!

For under $100, the cabanas were well equipped, with more beautiful views, and a lot of space! There was some bugs at night, but you are in the jungle, and that was nothing unexpected. The food was decent.

All in all, the Five Sisters was a great experience. If you stay there, definately go on the excursions. They are GREAT!

“Honeymoon Heaven”

Five Sisters Lodge

A wonderful location overlooking the Five Sisters Falls and a superb location for day trips and activities.

We loved our stay here and the river down at the bottom of the hill was the perfect place to unwind.
