“Our second home in Belize...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2009

This visit was our second time at Windy Hill. Two years ago we stayed for just four nights. This time we stayed for eight nights. Terry answered all questions via e-mail and helped us plan activities and rest days, too. Jorge De Leon ("Lion") is a great guy, outstanding driver, and educated tour guide. We trust him to take us anywhere in Belize! We did the cavetubing several years ago, but Lion's expertise made it so much better this time. He also handled the rough roads to Caracol with no problem at all. Terry helped us plan an overnight excursion to Tikal. Roberto took care of us in Guatemala and we had time to do everything. Terry's husband, JP, took us on the horses and it was great. We felt like teenagers staying at a friend's place... it was a great way to conclude our vacation.

We feel like Windy Hill is our second home. If we had the time, we would return several times each year (of course, we would gain weight because of the wonderful meals and large portions). When Lion is waiting for us at the airport, we feel like we're coming home and we leave all our stress from work behind us. Windy Hill takes care of everything. Just get in that swimming pool, relax, enjoy the view, and hear nothing but the birds!

My wife and I booked a two part honeymoon: half in San Pedro and half in the jungle. For the jungle portion, we stumbled upon The Windy Hill Resort and couldn't have been happier with the service. The staff was second to none. They had a great selection of excursions and their tour guides were very well educated. My only complaint was that the dining hall was closed for dinner, however we got excellent recommendations for places to dine in San Ignacio.

If you're wanting the Belize Jungle Adventure, the Windy Hill is the place to stay.

I like the location outside of the noisy streets of San Ignacio. The property is scenic and has lots of birds. The food was nothing special. The staff were polite, but impersonal and stand-off-ish. Not as friendly and welcoming as some other accommodations in the area. No a/c room was available and thus room was miserable hot. Over-priced.

We had an awesome time in Belize. The staff at Windy Hill were all very nice and attentive and the accomodations and amenties were relaxing and fun. I loved the pool on top of the hill. My favorite tours were the cave tubing and the horse back riding to the river. Cant wait to return.

Beautiful grounds more resemble a tropical botanical garden than a resort. Clean spacious private cabanas and excellent service. Nicest inland pool view I've ever seen.

We stayed at Windy Hill for a few days before heading over to Ambergris Caye. So glad we decided to include this in our itinerary. We were several families with kids and teens and all ages loved Windy Hill. It is good proximity for tours. We did Xunantunich and Cave Tubing. Excellent tours but, really, the highlight of these few days was being able to come back to Windy Hill and enjoy the property, pool and genuinely friendly service after being out and about all day. On top everything else, the food was delicious also. I would recommend Windy Hill without hesitation. Maybe a longer stay next time.

It has taken us a while to write this review but we think about our stay at Windy Hill everyday.
My husband and I traveled with my mother (who is physically disabled) and my father in early May of 2008.
We spent the first half of our trip in-land Belize at WIndy Hill and the second half on Ambergis Caye. This was a perfect combination of adventure and beach time.
We highly recommend this resort. Do not expect 5 star ammenities. When we first checked in we had booked a standard room without AC. This room felt reminisent of a girl scout cabin. Very rustic and humid. We ugraded to the deluxe room which was more of what we had in mind. Beautiful floor, AC, and a stunning tropical view from the balcony.
The ground are tremendous. Well maintained with a variety of local plants- feels like a botanical garden. The sounds of the birds every morning along with the very friendly staff provided us hard working americans with much needed relaxation.
The food was amazing but be careful if you are ordering outside the pre-paid package. Can get very expensive.
The tours are top notch! Granted we went in the off-season but we were often the only ones on the tour- what a treat.
My husband, father and I did the horseback ride- we still have wounds from the ride as we did not wear long pants but it is an everyday reminder of family fun! The ride was beautiful, with expansive views of the Guatemala Mountains, a stop to swim in the Mopan River and a ride through the recently excavated Buena Vista Mayan Ruins.
That same day we did the Barton Creek Cave Tour. The guides were incredible, providing us with information on the history, agriculture and people of Belize. The tour was amazing- we were on a canoe through "the underworld" that is the Barton Creek cave. The geology and history are spiritually magnificent.
The next day we went into Guatemala for a full day tour of Tikal (highly suggest). We felt very safe and again, our guides were very informative and friendly. Tikal is the premiere representation of Mayan ingenuity and the vastness of this site along with the wildlife you will see along the way is life changing.
Overall, if you are looking for charm, personalized service, jungle adventure and a true Belizean exerience, WIndy Hill Resort is perfect- just be sure to upgrade to the Deluxe room and watch your bill- Thanks again Windy Hill- we miss you!!
