“Belizean Jungle Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Service was very friendly and efficient. I very much enjoyed my stay. Jeruni helped us with an agenda and tour scheduling. Tours were excellent and as described on the resort website, including the helpful hints for what to wear and bring that day. Patrick was excellent for the ATM cave for his enthusiasm and knowledge. Eric was great for our cave tubing, kindly pointed out birds as that was a special interest of mine, and led us through the Belize zoo quickly before dropping us at our pier, he shared many items of interest and culture with us. Alba was our guide for Caracol and shared Mayan stories and local culture. This is like a bed and breakfast due to being in a smaller hotel with family contact and fantastic Belizean home cooking in huge portions (homemade everything including tortillas and pastry/dessert). I hope all the staff knows how great they are and how appreciated. It is a quiet and beautiful resort with open air dining in a large covered patio. I liked that there was room to sit separately in our groups rather than with other travellers allowing everyone to make that choice. I liked the room and patio with hammock and chairs for enjoying birds, plants, animals, and relaxing. It was a duplex cottage (shared wall) but we had no neighbor. I was there 4 nights and did not want to leave. The grounds are within the jungle and there are walks to do to the bird platform, medicinal trees, and down to the river. I highly recommend this resort and hope to visit again.

This is a repeat visit to Crystal Paradise Resort. Like last year, we stayed for 4 nights and booked three birding trips (2 full-day and 1 half-day birding trips) through Paradise Expeditions – Birding in Belize services.

We requested 3 air-conditioned rooms: #18, #14 and #11. All three rooms have very good ACs and sufficient amenities/space to accommodate our needs. Although Room#14 is having various hot water problems; the resort folks are actively fixing the issues during our stay.

The resort staff has changed a little since last year. Catalina and Elena are no longer there; instead I saw “Mama Tut” actively working in the kitchen together with other dining room helpers. Andy, a new dining room staff, is a hard-working and motivated young man who deserves a lot of recognition. He is interested in pursuing eco-tourism career and planning to go to school to get the tour guide license and lead birding trips (Note: All Belizean tour guides must go through rigorous school program and be licensed!)

All meals are freshly prepared with local produce and ingredients. If there is a restaurant like this in the US, I will be visiting every day! Both of my picky-eater kids love their cooking. Their dry-rubbed BBQ chicken is out of this world!!

For some magical reasons, the resort bird feeders are a lot more active than last year (and I thought last year is fantastic!) We got to dine with Blue-crowned Motmot, Keel-billed toucan, Collared Aracari, Red-throated Ant Tanager, Clay-colored Robin, Melodious Blackbird, tons of hummingbirds, parrots, and other tremendous birds every day!!

Last but not least, "Papa Tut (Victor)" is once again working early every day to make sure all things are tidy. He is very enthusiastic about educating the young generation of conservation and protecting nature. His son, Jeronie, together with other sons, Eric, Fernando, and Andy, are running Paradise Expeditions – Birding in Belize tour services. We booked three birding trips with Eric and we had SUPER FANTASTIC time. We had a total bird species of 320 in our 9-day trip; Eric got us most of the specialty birds – including Lovely Cotinga, Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Collared Trogan, Gray Breasted Chat, Rusty Sparrow, Rufous-capped Warbler, Grace’s Warbler, Tody Motmot, and many many more.

Overall, we loved our stay at Crystal Paradise and strongly recommend go birding with Paradise Expeditions!!

Room Tip: For people who are not used to hot and humid weather, book a AC room!!

Stayed at Crystal Palace for one night in April while visiting Belize and Tikal. The cabanas are darling, and very clean. Set in a birders paradise, it's conveniently located just a drive from Barton Creek Cave and a perfect spot to just sit and watch the birds, walk the grounds and look at the flowers or relax in a hammock. The food was home cooked and delicious and the staff was super friendly and accommodating.

Would highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Belize!

I had a great time staying at Crystal Paradise. The staff treat you like family all the way down to the home style meals. The guides are all wonderful and very knowledgeable about all that they show you. I went to the ATM cave, the "Butts up" cave tubing, big rock falls, Xunantunich, Tikal in Guatemala, and saw birds every morning while drinking amazing coffee at the resort.

The facilities and grounds are AMAZING. Thousands of flowers and birds and clean/well managed facilities. However I was traveling alone, and I would not recommend this place for a solo traveler. I went on a bunch of tours, which CR did arrange for me, but I had to pay extra, and it was rather lonely (although the guides from CR were AMAZING)! The food was great, although, again because I was alone, I ate by myself most nights (that is the way they set the tables). All in all I would definitely stay there again if I had some company (even though I usually love traveling alone). It is also relevant to mention that CR has the best prices for cabanas in the Cayo district for what you get; very VERY much worth it. Another note: do not go if you want to sleep past 6am-- the awesome birds WILL wake you up.

Room Tip: I'd go for the small cabanas -- but there are tarantulas and geckos and leaf cutter ants.

Our stay at Crystal Paradise Resort was spectacular. The Tut family's warmth and hospitality provide guests with a truly Belizean experience. The food was fantastic (and we have pretty high standards). The rooms have everything you need on your travels. The property is breathtaking and the wildlife sightings amazing. We stayed with out two young sons who had the time of their lives. The optional tours provide a plethora of activities to choose from (both guided and unguided). You feel you're at a home away from when you are here. We hope to come back someday.

Great family run establishment. Food was wonderful. Truly enjoyed our stay here, wish we had added a few extra days here. We were on a planned Birding vacation, hosted by the Brothers of the family. They run many different tours throughout the country. The Birding trip was a huge success, 180 species seen, 45 new life listers. The birds on the property were amazing also. Nice short walk to the river. Dogs were a little loud one night but did not hear them other nights. Great family doing an excellent job in their part of paradise. Accomodations were nice with a ceiling fan and private bath.

Room Tip: They do have a honeymoon cabana. More private as others are duplex cabanas. It has nice wrap-aroun...
