“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2005

Although not a 5 star resort, this was one of our favorite places we have ever visited. Staying at Clarissa Falls is like being taken in by a native Belizean family. Chena, Mark and Linda were all very gracious and welcoming. We could never have imagined a better experience. The resort is located right on the Mopan river and the sounds of the river, crickets and the occasional gecko lull you to sleep at night. The cabanas are situated right next to the river and steps away from the restaurant and gathering area.

While most of the resorts in the area will nickel and dime you for everything once you get there, Clarissa Falls is completely the opposite. We were quoted a package price that included airport transfers, food, lodging, and tours and at the end of our stay when we checked out, our final bill was $200 US less. Mark arranged discounted tours for us with some of the nicest, most memorable tour guides I could imagine.

They have 2 parrots that they are rehabilitating into the wild and just a few weeks ago had a toucan, but it was already released. There are 3 pet geese, a chicken, two dogs, a number of turkeys, at least 1 cat, cows, and horses on the ranch. It is a wonderful way to get a look into a traditional Belizean family. They are the loveliest, most accommodating people, that would offer the shirt off their back if you needed it.

You can take a beautiful hike from the resort down the Mopan river and over a hand crank ferry to Xunantunich ruins. It is about an hour and 15 minute walk. We saw many iguanas on our walk to Xunantunich. We cannot say enough wonderful things about this resort and the owners. It is a wonderful and peaceful place to stay. We highly recommend.

The cottages at Clarissa Falls Resort were enchanting. The location along the river was beyond peaceful. This is a somewhat rustic experience, however this is exactly what we were looking for. Unfortunately, we only had two days at Clarissa Falls. It would have been great to stay longer. Chena, has been there her whole life and she will welcome you with a great big smile and open arms. Her cooking is absolutely amazing. She and her family will plan your daily adventures. Ask about arriving by kayak. With our guide, Henri, we were able to begin our adventure immediately.
