“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014

We had a wonderful stay here. It is such a beautiful location and the grounds are meticulous. The best part is the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed sitting with other travellers at night and comparing adventures. There are so many nice touches- they light torches all along the paths at night and it feels quite magical. There is a large organic garden on site and Giovanni took us for a tour and gave us a taste of the wonderful vegetables grown there. We went on the canoe trip on the river with Elvis who was a great guide and was very patient pointing things out to us, even when it took some time for us to see as he did. The birds at the restaurant are amazing to watch and they set up a scope in the morning and point out the ones in the trees across the river. There are trails to explore right from the lodge. It is such a peaceful place.

Room Tip: We had cabin 3- a river view cabin. It was very private and had amazing views.

This place is ranked #1 for a reason...well many reasons. Its has truly beautiful views and landscape, wonderfully prepared organic and local food, lots of activities to keep you entertained, but the best part of our experience at Black Rock was the friendly and helpful staff. Isaiah took us on an exciting hike around the property and into one of the caves, Anastacio showed us all the beautiful birds that live on the property and Giovanni helped escort us in and out of the lodge everyday because the roads were difficult due to rain. Petro and Pieter also welcomed us with opened arms. But I should note- if you are afraid of nature and don't like to get wet, this might not be the place for you. It is definitely called an eco-resort for a reason! Also we thought the dinners were included in the price of the room- they are not, as we learned when we reviewed our bill.

Room Tip: We liked our room on the edge of the property near the river.

This was my first time in an-eco lodge and it was wonderful. The entire staff was kind and helpful and went out of their way to make sure that we were having an excellent visit. They spent extra time with us making sure that we were seeing and identifying birds.

The meals were fresh and delicious. I have peculiar dietary needs and the staff was very accommodating.

The only drawback was the 2 1/2 hour drive from Belize city.

This was a great 3 day excursion, plenty of tours to go on, or tube down the Macal river, climb a Maya mountain, the meals were superb and the staff does a great job, It's off the grid, but powered by solar and hydro. Reasonable price. The Managers Petro and Pieter are wonderful. Definitely coming back here when returning to Belize

We spent four days at Black Rock Lodge and could not have been happier. We love the wilderness setting, ecological concept, and connection to the environment. The staff and guides were very knowledgeable about so many subjects; plants, animals, birds, fish, history, culture. Our day with our guide, Carlos, was terrific. We took a peaceful canoe trip on the river, explored a botanical garden and a butterfly farm along the way.

The food and beverage offerings were plentiful and very well prepared. We also enjoyed the family style dining which gave us a chance to meet some very interesting people and have in depth conversations over good meals. If you like outdoor experiences like hiking, canoeing, swimming, birding, etc. this is a great spot.

Make no bones about it the staff at the Black Rock Lodge cares about each and every guest. Unbelievable coordination of your personalized excursions. They are there to make sure your experience is all good, you are safe and they give Port to port service! I loved the bird watching, the river trips and the hikes to the top of Black Rock and riding horses to the ruins.

I love to learn about willdlife and if you are open they are willing to teach. They are all great spotters of wild life and help you find hidden treasures. We even saw Big Cat prints. The Lodge is great ,Cabins are just right and the Dining Deck is so well done. They handled food restrictions with care and the food was great. It is a farm (Blackrock's Farm) to table menu and all in fresh. Belize is fresh! I will return.

Room Tip: The Cabins are all good.
