“Luxurious, Romantic, Incredible 'Summer Camp' for Adults!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2011

OK. This is one of our favorite places we've stayed. It was SPECTACULAR. The atmosphere cannot be summed up with words or even on their website. It is an AMAZING place to stay...AN EXPERIENCE, really. From the knowledgeable tour guides (woo hoo, we love Hugh!), kind staff, to the gracious hosts/owners, to the local food, to the romantic rooms, The Lodge at Chaa Creek is beyond anything we could have imagined. We are totally in love and can't wait to go back! What a great five days. Their love of the environment is evident. Their desire to share this beautiful part of the country with the guests goes above and beyond. Imagine waking up to amazing birds, an occassional howler monkey in the distance, and beautiful mist over the mountains. Imagine a place that feels as intimate as a friend's home, yet private enough that you feel like you are the only people there. Imagine spending a week learning, relaxing, touring, and exploring. Imagine deliciously prepared local foods, brought to your table by wonderful servers in local dress. Imagine getting so used to seeing Iguanas that by the end of the week you stop taking pictures!! :) It was wonderful. We loved getting to know the other guests and wanting to stay in touch with them. In fact, we have! We loved their limeades (you MUST try them!) and their fry jacks. We loved the gift shop, the tours, and the property. All in all, a breathtaking experience that cannot be described in words. Thank you, Chaa Creek.

We greatly enjoyed our four-day stay at Chaa Creek, an ideal way to enjoy nature while being pampered at a delightful location by an immensely dedicated and caring staff. The rooms were spacious and spotless. Even though the garden cottages (where we stayed) have adjacent rooms, we were never bothered by noise from next door. The grounds were very large and well-maintained. We greatly enjoyed the meals; although the menu was limited we were particularly pleased with the different (usually regional) specialty offered at every meal (and on occasion when we didn't care for the special, the chef prepared a substitute meal that was to our liking). As others have said, you can just rest at the lovely infinity pool or keep busy with the many available activities. For example, this is an excellent location for birdwatching, and early morning birding walks with very knowledgable guides are offered every day. We had pre-scheduled a guided tour to Caracol (the largest Mayan site in Belize) and the Rio Frio cave. Although the drive was long and on unpaved roads for a good portion, we enjoyed the experience a lot. We had a chance to speak with Mick Fleming, who with his wife founded and own Chaa Creek and seem to be readily available to hear your compliments -- or, if you should have them, complaints. It is a tribute to them and the staff that the Lodge is ideal for a broad spectrum of vacationers seeking to enjoy nature in any of a number of different ways.

I simply adored this beautiful, majestic 365 acres of pure beauty. The staff was fabulous and friendly. Very nice people with excellent friendly attitudes that make you feel at home.
Their guides are the most knowledgeable I have ever encountered.
I spent five nights and ran out of time as I loved going on all of the excursions they have right at hand.
I loved horseback riding and then going to the spa to relax.

I love this special one of a kind place and plan to visit as soon as my schedule permits.
This is in my mind the finest Eco resort on the planet and I am a very experienced traveler having been to Costa Rica many times.

We stayed at Chaa Creek for four days, before and after New Year's. It's hard to use anything but superlatives when talking about this wonderful lodge in beautiful Belize. The staff is friendly, helpful, personable, well-informed, and proud of their country and heritage. The facilities are marvelous - the grounds and rooms and common spaces are all beautifual, well-maintained, and extraordinarily clean. The restaurant was excellent, and used many locally grown ingredients. There were plenty of great activities, many more than we could take advantage of in four days. The groups for activities were kept small, often just the two of us and one staff member, which greatly enhanced the experience. We went horseback riding twice, including a half-day trip to one of the Mayan sites. (They have good, well-cared-for horses, which is not always the case at resorts.) Robert, our trail guide, was also an archaeology student, and we benefited from his extensive knowledge, as well as having a lot of fun with him. We also went canoeing, hiking, and bird-watching. Mick and Lucy, the founders/owners, are wonderful people, dedicated to providing an experience that is comfortable, fun, and ecologically friendly. We will certainly be returning to Chaa Creek in the future.

Came here with my husband for my birthday. We were given an amazing room on the river. The food was excellent, the staff was very friendly, and the grounds were beautiful. The highlight day for us was the canoe ride down the river to San Ignacio! Very family friendly but there were also a lot of honeymooners.

I planned our honeymoon by myself b/c my wife wanted it to be a secret until she got to the airport. Because of this, I relied heavily on this site and other people's recommendations, and so I have to first give props to TripAdvisor, where I found the link to LatinDestinations.com and booked my entire trip. They completely took care of us from the time I booked the trip, to landing on the ground, getting us back and forth from our different destinations while traveling around Belize, and booking our excursions while we were there.

About Chaa Creek: we stayed there for 2 nights at the beginning of our trip and it was excellent! First off, it takes a while to get through from the airport, but have no fear, it's worth the drive when you finally arrive. I have to admit there were a lot of favorites about this place, but probably the best thing about it was the food. We clearly didn't stay long enough here though, b/c there is a LOT to do. We went zip-lining and cave canoeing during our full day there and it was one of the best things we did in Belize. If we had had more time, it would have been great to go on a Mayan ruins trip to either neighboring Guatemala, or some of the other closer sites. Either way, this was booked through the resort and went off w/o a hitch. In fact, the lunch that was provided for us exceeded our expectations and our guide, Phillip, was outstanding: probably the best guide we came across.

Everyone in Belize is so nice and friendly and eager to tell you about their country. By the way, unless you get waaaayyy off the beaten path, leave your spanish book at home b/c everyone pretty much speaks english and we had no problems there (we expected to get a refresher course on our spanish speaking by traveling here).

Overall, I would highly recommend this place if you want to see the interior of Belize, check out some Mayan ruins, have an adventure, want to relax, like upscale resorts that cater to just about everything and everyone.

*It should be noted that there were many families here and I would agree that a family could stay here and have a LOT of fun together w/ all of the things you can do at this place.

We just stayed at Chaa Creek for 4 days and liked it so much we returned there for a further 3 nights, cutting short our time at the beach. We did loads of riding which was incredible, and good value at US$45 for 2 hours. My 8 year olds' confidence rocketed and both were handling the horses expertly and happy to gallop as much as possible. The rides were interesting and peppered with local bits of information. The rooms are lovely and the service the best I have had of any hotel. The food was on the whole delicious. We couldn't have been better looked after or had a better time. I have done a lot of travelling and this is without doubt one of the best places I have stayed in. Complaining about the road is extraordinary - the lodge is down a track because it is in the jungle. There is masses to do - canoeing, riding, trails, biking, birding, trips to caves and temples. The attentive staff make your stay unusually good, but lying in your hammock outside your room listening to birds is pretty perfect too.
