Great ride for just the two of us to Xunantunich with our guide Arnold, a cowboy straight out of central casting: squinty, big hat, boots with silver spurs, creased jeans, huge belt buckle. The price was also extremely reasonable: we paid for the ruins admission and lunch out-of-pocket, and so were charged only $30 pp for the horses and guide. The horses were friendly and easy to control, if you have a firm hand. The ride took us through farmland, with a view of the ruins in the distance, a little over an hour each way. Arnold waited for us while we took as much time as we wanted at the ruins. We had a nice lunch at a local restaurant after the ride, where we got to know Arnold a little better: he had great stories about growing up as a cowboy in Belize, and even about visiting California to see family. Fun way to visit this site (and feel superior to the tourists riding in on buses).
