“Beautiful, quiet lodge in the heart of Belize”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

The Macaw Bank Jungle Lodge is a wonderful place from which to explore the ruins, jungles, and adventures in the Cayo / San Ignacio area of Belize, as well as relax and take in the natural beauty of the area. Ron and Al, along with their caring staff, are friendly and welcoming; they could not do enough to make the experience comfortable for us.

We stayed in a clean, cozy cabin with electricity, private bath, and fans that was about 30 steps away from the main lodge where we had all our meals. Cabin was close to the main lodge but still quiet and secluded. The food was great -- hearty, local, home-cooked, tasty; we chose to have every meal here because it was the most convenient and comfortable option.

Things to do: The river is a short hike away and the lodge provides tubes for a relaxing float back to the lodge. We visited ATM caves (with tour guide, as required), several nearby ruins, and other jungles in the area -- though we could have happily spent our days at the beautiful, rustic lodge and enjoyed the jungle and beautifully cultivated garden there.

We had a rental car, and I recommend that for this area -- we liked the independence this offered us, since public transport and taxis are difficult to arrange outside the main city.

I highly recommend this lodge for a mobile, independent traveler who wants a comfortable experience in a rustic environment. We truly had a wonderful experience and would go back in a heartbeat when we visit Belize in the future!

The Macaw Bank Jungle Lodge was a new spot for the family to gather and spend a vacation doing sometime out of the norm. What an expericence of a life time. We started our trip into the jungle with the hope of finding somewhere that we could tell our friends about and we did! The staff at Macaw Bank Jungle Lodge were at the top of their game. They had breakfast, lunch and dinner fit for a king. They made sure we had a great day filled with a new adventure each and every day. From checking out the ruins, zip line across the jungle, to just tubing down the river relaxing and soaking in the sun. The wildlife was amazing, the grounds were well kept and the cabins were spacious just like being at home. I have been asked by friends and co-workers, would you go back? The answer, without question I would love to return. Not only did we enjoy each and every day, we made new friends at Macaw Bank Jungle Lodge. Thank you so much Ron, Al, Henry and Angel you guys made the trip a wonderful, delightful, and a trip that my family will speak about for a life time. AMAZING!!!!

I just spent a lovely 5 day stay at Macaw bank with my two adult children. The lodge is a perfect blend of civilization and natural beauty. Ron and Al have been very careful to fit the dewellings in to the natural environment. You really have the feel of being in nature. Ron arranged for a naturalist to give us a tour on morning and we saw 30 speciaes of birs in about 1 1/2 hours. Most of them were a short distance from the lodge. The rooms are comfortable and Ron is a great cook who makes sure no one goes away hungry.

The Macaw Bank Jungle Lodge is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings of the Cayo District. Staying at the Macaw Bank was a true jungle experience. As beginning bird watchers, we were amazed by the diversity and number of birds. Lush vegetation, the remote location, and the well-spaced cabins provided for an isolated jungle experience.

In addition to the wonderful location, we truly enjoyed the hospitality of the staff at Macaw Bank. To say that they were friendly would be an understatement. The owners, Ron and Al, were great conversationalists, and we enjoyed winding down the evening by talking to them and learning about the area.

Prior to staying at Macaw Bank, we were a little uncertain about the meals since the remote location does not provide alternatives. However, all of the meals were delicious, and the convenience of not having to worry about finding a restaurant added to the relaxing experience.

Overall, a wonderful stay.

I visited the lodge around Christmas of last year. It was a wonderful experience. The food and activities were excellent, and it is clear that everyone there loves what they do. The love and the fun was infectious. Floating down the river, checking out the unexcavated ruins, and even getting there were unforgettable adventures. I'd go back again in a heartbeat.

Well...my friends at the Macaw Jungle Lodge must be wondering what happened to us. Our family of four visited Ron and Al the last week of March 2012. We had possibly one of the best vacations ever and the Jungle Lodge was a HUGE part of our great trip to Belize. We had an old friend recommend the Cayo District and San Ignacio in particular. Not knowing much about Belize we were in for a very pleasant surprise. Ron and Al were gracious, kind, and entertaining hosts. We enjoyed every evening with them and consider them friends now. The food was excellent and service outstanding. The cabins are rustic Belize charming and comfortable. While the Lodge is a bit remote this was our preference and the location along the Macaw River is amazing. We enjoyed our early evening floats down the river listening the many birds and wildlife that roam the area. Ron even saved us bucks with his help arranging outings and just generally knowing the area. Overall, I can't think of a place we would have rather stayed than their lodge. My wife plan on returning to Belize in the coming years and hope to find Ron and Al in good health and humor. Take care guys. We miss ya.
