“Very cool!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2012

This was a great dry cave to see since the waters were flooding and the wet caves were not accessible. The hike in and out was very slippery and muddy but made for a fun adventure and a nice way to get a little exercise. I was very impressed that our interpreter was the one who actually discovered this cave!

“A once in a lifetime opportunity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012

We had the pleasure of a tour of this cave and the Mayan castillo Xunantunich on the same day. Both were extraordinary sites, but the cave, privately owned, the knowledgeable William, who took us through nine levels used by the Mayans for various death rituals. This family-owned site is untouched by the usual tourist hoards. There's a hike of moderate difficulty (not a walk in the park) to begin with, ending with the cave itself, found by William when he was just 17 years old. It hadn't been entered since Mayan times, so it's been unaffected by intervening years and generations. It's a muddy, difficult route to the bottom, and William provided headlamps, which were essential. Be prepared to work for the immense satisfaction of seeing burial urns and a spooky altar at the very bottom. William's a great raconteur, and we got s strong sense of Mayan history and culture from his narration. A certain amount of fitness and agility is essential, but the rewards are tremendous. Avoid wet weather, and hiking boots would certainly be advisable. William provides walking sticks, for which I was grateful. This off-the-beaten-track expedition was one of the high points of our visit to Belize.

“Chechem Ha cave: wonderfull potterie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

The walking to the entry of the cave is about 45 minutes with some steep path. But it is worth it. In the cave you have to climb some ladders, and your clothes get very dirty. But this is really worth the trip!

“unique cave”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2012

Small dry cave with Mayan artifacts deep in the jungle. Tour guide was William, the guy that discovered the cave when he was just 16 years old. Nice half day trip, especially if it's a rainy day.

“AWESOME!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2011

This was a wonderful tour if you are at all interested in the Maya. It is a good hike to get to the cave but worth it. William was our guide who found the cave, and he is just another reason why Belize is a special place to visit. To see pottery that was placed in the cave at the same time as when Jesus was alive is amazing.
