“Perfectly nice budget hotel for an overnight before heading out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

I spent one night in the Belcove Hotel before heading down south to Toledo District. The hotel is small, but clean. A/C in our room. Pretty good service, but when we requested (twice) a cab for an early morning departure, it was not called for us. The rooms on the river can be very loud at night because of the nightclub next door- for peace and quiet, request a room near the front of the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the river if you want to sleep! The nightclub plays loud music until the wee hour...

Backs onto the river and there is a nice back porch where you can sit in the shade and watch the world go by.
There is no great selection of super hotels in this city so maybe this is as good as it gets at this price.
A rat did trot by at dusk but with wharves and the amount of litter in the city this is scarcely surprising.
The room gets hot
Very handy for Albert St where you can buy cut fruit and ice cream

Belcove Hotel was one of the few budget hotels we could find with good reviews - fortunately we headed there for 1 night prior to taking the overnight bus to Cancun. The Belcove seems to be in a sketchy part of town, especially at night, although in the day we walked around comfortably. We took the budget room with private bath and it was totally fine for 2 persons and the contents of 2 backpacks - the shower was one of the best we've had in all of Central America! The staff are very polite and helpful. The Internet worked very well in the hotel, and also provided low connectivity on the deck of the Marlin restaurant next door. Bonus that it backs onto the canal and the old swing bridge.

To the Owner of The Belcove,

My husband and I traveled with friends to Belize and stayed at the Becove hotel 2 nights upon arrival and again a night on our way home. I want to commend your staff, both cleaning and front desk, for their excellent service. You have chosen young people that represent your business well. They answered our questions completely and offered extra thoughtful service. I particularly want to comment on the cleaning which was superb. We stayed each time on the second floor and the place was spotless, not only our room but common trafficked areas - outdoor decks and washroom and hallways. I am greatly impressed. Please pass on our appreciation to all for making our stay so comfortable. We also really appreciated the little restaurant next door for cheerful service and great food.

Each time we talk about our trip to friends we whole heartily recommend the Belcove.

Best Regard from some satisfied Canadian visitors Ed and Dorothy

A decent place if you are going to spend the night in Belize City. The rooms were simple and clean, and there is a nice balcony that looks out over the canal. Danny was at the front desk that day, and he was super helpful in answering all questions and setting up a tour for us.

Room Tip: If you get a room next to the balcony, you may have to deal with noise from people on said balcony...

Balconies at the "back" of the hotel overlook the canal and the bridge; quite lovely. Rooms are brightly decorated, and the privates have plenty of space around a double bed. Roomy bathroom. No fridge. Good air conditioning / fan and wifi. People at the front desk are great, helpful with finding taxi, meals, etc. Beer and water available for purchase. OK restaurant next door. Coffee in the morning. Clean. Belize is a tough city, and these people do a good job of making it as pleasant as possible.

we arrived by bus at around 8pm at night and decided to walk there. the roads were not clearly marked and we couldnt find the hotel. we stopped to ask a policeman standing in front of a church where it was obvious a congregation was going on. we didnt feel unsafe though streets were dark, we noticed many shop windows were tightly grilled and a bouncer at a local bar had a rifle. we were the type of traveler that believe you mind your own business keep your wits about you and you will be fine! however the policeman said he didnt know the area (what a lie!) and pointed us to an approaching man across the street who looked like he cleaned and took care of cars on the street. he tried to walk with us to our hotel when two men armed with clubs suddenly cosied up beside us... i looked at them suspiciously and with a slight gesture and a word or two the men disappeared quickly as they came... probably decided we were not wise targets? we dont know what was really going on... but thankfully we got to belcove safely, paid the man a smallfee...

the receptionist was warm, helpful. we felt safe inbelcove. by then we were starving but he advised us against stepping outside.he helpedus order chinese food and got us beers. the hotel had a great view of the water and boats... very clean and cosy. we were glad to get out of belize city to san ignacio but couldnt have asked for a better place to rest. try to arrive in the daytime, and take a cab.
