We were on a Carnival cruise last week and decided to go on a cave tubing excursion in Belize. We read lots of reviews and decided to book with cave-tubing.com. I emailed Yhony and made the reservations for 2 for 12/13/07. Yhony emailed back and confirmed the reservations for 12/6/07. I emailed back to make sure he would make the reservations for the 13th. Confirmation was corrected .
We were lucky and got off the ship by 8:30 a.m. on the 13th. Yhony was standing there with all the names on a sign that had signed up for either cave-tubing or cave-tubing and ATV except my name was not on the sign. That didnt seem to matter. We still got on the excursion. There were 9 people on the van who went first to the ATV riding and then to the cave-tubing. When we got to the ATV parking area 3 more people joined us. The ATV ride was a blast. My husband and I really enjoyed it. After the ATV ride 4 more people joined us in the van to ride to the cave tubing parking place which was only a couple of miles away. After the cavetubing the people who joined our van later were supposed to ride back to Belize city in another vehicle.By then we were 16 people. We hiked appr. 30 minutes to the start of our tubing through 2 caves. It was spectacular and we really enjoyed it almost as much as the ATV ride. I only wished we all would have gotten a head (miner) light. They only had 5 lights for the 16 of us. I would think I could have seen more in the caves. At the end of the tubing we hiked back to the van and went into a changing station to change into dry clothes. To our big surprise when we came out we saw the backlights of our van leaving the parking lot. We screamed and waved but they obviously didnt hear or see us and there we were without a ride back to the ship.
Evidentally there was no head count, too many people joined during the trip and the guides lost the oversight of who or how many people they should take back to the port which was about a 1hr drive away.
We approached a tourguide in the parking lot and asked him if he was by any chance a guide from the cave-tubing.com outfit. He said no and I continued to tell him what happened, that our guide had left without us and our ship was leaving in 11/2 hrs. He told us not to worry, he would help us. His name is Mike, he is a guide with Major Tom's cave tubing tour. Major Tom himself approached us and told us not to worry, we would get a ride with his van back to the port and he even was so gracious to apologize for Yhony's company saying things like that could happen.
On our way back in Major Toms van, the people who took the cave tubing tour with him were all in praise. They said Mike was an extremly good tourguide and everybody enjoyed their excursion tremendously.
To come to the point of my review: We did enjoy the ATV and cave tubing with Yhony . Evan was a good guide but they absolutely have to get better organized. Things like that just should not happen.
We were lucky to find somebody who did take us back to the port and we were able to catch the last tender to our cruise ship.
But I really didn't want that much excitement!
