This is a very nice little zoo. It's definitely worth a few hours stop not only for a chance to see native animals from very close range, but also because they've done such a nice job creating a restful, interesting environment. One word of advice: don't try bus travel to and from the zoo. The bus drivers don't stop for you when you hail them. I waited 4 hours in front of the zoo, hailing bus after bus to get them to stop. In the end, I had to rely on the goodness of a local couple who had seen me waiting at the bus stop 2.5 hours earlier when they drove in. They took pity on me and drove me to Belmopan where I could make a bus connection to where I was going.

I've traveled back and forth to Belize every year for 25 years and knew this zoo when it was nothing but cages. Now a tourist can see healthy animals, birds,etc. in the natural habitat invironments provided for them. Nice walkways, clear information about the animals, shaded areas, a gift & snack shop, covered picnic area, outdoor bathrooms are clean. Easy to reach on Belize's excellent bus system. Well worth the trip.
