“OK hotel for a brief stay.”

Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina

We stayed at this hotel for one night in December. We booked a Bed and Breakfast package online in a Club Tower room. We asked for a kingsize bed, but got two doubles. The hotel is quite nice, but dated in terms of decor. Room was large and clean and very well equipped. It had a beautiful view of the ocean. I thought the management was somewhat disorganized. Had to argue with the staff several times (at check-in and at check-out) that my prepaid rate included breakfast vouchers. They did not have this in the system, but fortunately I had brought reservation copy from home. Fitness room is very, very basic. Pool looked OK, but is small.

This Radisson is like an oasis in the desert. It's a welcome respite, with water; but it's still stuck in a not-too-desireable spot, and doesn't offer real pleasure.

Rooms and public areas are maintained, but worn; the staff was friendly to us, but I noticed responses in kind to others less tolerant; the facilities were good, but not luxuriant. And, above all, it is located in a city that doesn't offer much in the way of exciting alternatives.

The full fledged restaurants served disappointing fare. Across the road, the bakery/cafe was no salvation. High points were the burgers and pizza from the bar near the hotel pool. And, there, service detracted from the pleasing flavors.

The poolside layout was awkward in that there was little space to manipulate the chairs to face the sun. One side is good early, but not late, and vice versa. Only a handful of chairs are good long-term.

On the up side, there are a couple of nice places to dine nearby. I do recommend the Harbor View Restaurant. Although I have read warnings about concerns for safety, we had no bother visiting several markets close by to shop for souvenirs. And the wonderful little anthropology museum is only a few minutes walk away.

The staff at the tour service desk were lovely as well, and the tours booked through the hotel were all very well run and worth the price.

“Rudest Reception ever !”

Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina

Dec 27, 2007

We arrived having heard that this was the place to stay in Belize City.
It turned out that we were so badly received at check in that we turned around and left 30 minutes later.
The staff made us wait without giving us any indications of what the hold up was and when i asked them they were rude and aggressive with me !
The room was not ready and we had to wait ! It was clearly passed check in time. How can a hotel with so many rooms not have ours ready when we booked over a week in advance ?
We were immediately given a print out upon arrival (we did even get a verbal apology ) that the restaurant would be limited to sandwichs and nothing else.
This is clearly no to the standard of any real Radisson that one can visit anywhere in the world.
This experience showed us that it is very poorly managed.
It ruined what was supposed to be a special night in Belize.

“crappy guest service-hope you get sleep”

Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina

I am so ticked off right now I am literally using this hotel's internet access to write this report while the problems are occurring. We stayed one night at this hotel on the 22nd of December as the last night of a 12 day trip where we visited Ambergris Caye and stayed on a liveaboard dive boat for a week. After spending a week getting up at 5:45 every morning on a boat, we were looking forward to catching up on our rest before heading home. We checked in around 2pm, can't say that the front desk staff was all that welcoming. We were given room 455 in the villa rooms just across from the main hotel. Rooms are average. Bathroom is a little dated looking. Shortly after checking in we did some exploring and noticed a Birthday Party in one of the banquet rooms on the main floor of the villa side. They had some really loud dance music playing during the day that seemed excessive. It didn't bother us too much but we just thought it strange that the music would be so loud.

Upon returning from our dinner, we noticed music in the hallway of our floor. Just 4 floors below and directly next to the hotel is Iguana Rana's and they had a wedding party that had reception music playing, the hotel's hallways have horizontally slated windows that were all open so you could hear the music pretty well. It's a wedding and not part of the hotel so there's nothing you can do about that nor did it really bother me. It starts to get later and we notice that there is some seriously loud music that is vibrating in our room. After awhile I decide to investigate so I head into the hallway and I listen and watch the wedding outside but it's not the same beat we were hearing. I headed up to the 5th floor and there is yet another banquet room which is pretty much directly above our room with some kind of party going on. I don't mind loud music, I listen to it at full blast in my ipod all the time but this music was so loud I wondered how anyone could hear someone talking at this party. I head back downstairs and we watch a little tv and I start feeling tired at 11:30pm at night. I am seething that this beat (which I can still hear quite well) is going to keep me up for who knows how long. I am wondering why the hell they would put people on this floor directly underneath a party like this.

I flipped back on the light and called the Manager on Duty line and get someone who is the "acting manager". I'm pretty blunt with him about how pissed off I am at how loud this music is and ask him if he can have it turned down. He's kind of quiet and apologetic and offers to move us to another room. I tell him that I would rather not move since it's nearly midnight and we are only there that one night. We have wet swimsuits drying on the balcony and other items unpacked not to mention 4 bags and 3 carry on pieces and we are pretty much in our sleepwear. I continue to ask him to just have them turn it down. His response is that they rented this room from the hotel for the party and he can ask but THE LAST TIME THEY HAD THIS PROBLEM, THEY WOULDN"T TURN THE MUSIC DOWN.!!! I mentioned to him that I was getting pretty pissed off and that I'd be posting this on the internet (my last straw). I told him that first and foremost they are a hotel, not a party rental place. I asked again to just ask them to turn it down and ended the call. About 5 minutes later (music still strong) he calls the room back and my husband speaks to him. He offered again to move us or just to let us leave our bags there and sleep in another part of the hotel which we didn't want to do. He said he called the security guy and he would try to get the music turned down. It is now 12:15am and it may have gone down a little but it's still vibrating the headboard and I'm not sure I could sleep even with earphones.

There are guards just about everywhere at this hotel as it seems are posted at every somewhat reputable tourist place in this town. There may not be many nice options in this city but talk about lack of customer service to paying guests. You just better hope you don't get stuck in a room near a banquet room. Also thought it was quite ridiculous that they make you initial something when checking in that you agree to bring NO FOOD OR DRINK ANYWHERE IN THE HOTEL UNLESS BOUGHT IN THE HOTEL. I've never seen a policy like this anywhere. Does this mean they are going to charge me a fee or slap my wrist for buying a bottle of water or a bag of chips off premises? Ridiculous! How long will this party last.....

We stopped in Belize City overnight to break up our journey from Tulum (Mexico) to San Ignacio (Belize). Having read all of the guidance on not being outside after dark in Belize City we decided to pick a hotel with a recognised brand.
Having now visited Belize City I can only agree with the advice, we arrived at the bus station just as the sun was starting to go down and got a taxi stragiht to the hotel. The atmosphere on the streets was very intimidating and I would not have felt comfortable walking the few blocks ot the hotel.
The Radisson itself is a bit tired looking and could definitely do with a refurb, but our room was clean, the service was great and we had a safe, comfortable place to rest our heads for the night - which was all we were looking for. I would probably not have wanted to stay here for much more than one night, but that has more to do with the hotel being in Belize City than anything else.
