“Rooms & Grounds nice, restaurant service terrible”

Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza

We were delayed getting into Dallas for our flight (7 of us total) and stayed two nights at this hotel. There is nothing around it for miles, but when you walk in the lobby is pleasant and the pool fairly clean and lush. Our room was large by US standards, had a vaulted ceiling, ceiling fan and air conditioning. So far, so good. I did find a few bugs in my bed, however, didn't worry about that too much since, after all, bugs are part of the whole Belize experience, but it did make me wonder if our sheets had been washed.
Unfortunately, the service in the restaurant was horrible. The waitress obviously hated her job and the hostess wasn't
much better. I had to ask for my missing breakfast items, upon which I got a shrug and a glass of orange juice about 15 min. later. No smiles, no apology. Another time we ordered a simple plate of nachos poolside After more than an hour, we had to ask for them. Somehow the order had been lost; again, no apologies or smiles. The cleaning crew was a bit better, but we had to ask for a couple extra towels twice (we had two in our room, but there were four of us total) and never did receive them. In a 2nd room, the cleaner took my poor mother's towels to clean and never brought any back. My mother walked around and found the cleaning person to ask for a towel off the cart and she told her she couldn't have one, that they were for other rooms. MANAGEMENT: GET A NEW RESTAURANT AND CLEANING CREW!!! Overall, I would stay here again for the convenience factor (close to the airport), but for no other reason!

My husband, two boys and I stayed here overnight recently after having spent a lovely week on Ambergris Caye. Upon entering the room it appeared to be clean, pleasant, the AC worked and there were no plumbing leaks, clogs and no nasty bugs in the room, so far so good! The grounds were lush and appeared well-kept. We were close to the pool, which is in the middle or courtyard area of the hotel. The hotel is out of town, no restaurants within walking distance which is why we opted to eat on site at The Victoria Room which was a mistake. The restaurant was not crowded at all, however we waited an entire hour for our food, I'm talking salad and sandwiches type fare! We inquired three times with two different staff, meanwhile our 4yo was crying and pulling the tablecloth off and the 11yo was ready to go eat a leftover bag of airline pretzels in the room! Finally our food showed up after my husband went in search of the hotel manager. After we ate l nearly caused a "scene" and they were finally able to find a food-service manager. She inquired and found out that our ticket had been set aside and forgotten! All she could offer was an apology and she "comped" our 4 year-old's meal. We then went back to the room to relax and the kids wanted to swim. However by this time the private poolside event was in full swing with a loud DJ and partiers. The signage regarding the event said it was to run from 7-9pm. At 10pm I went to the front desk since the music was shaking our walls and windowpanes. I was told to look for the event manager by the pool bar but had no luck locating him. At 10:30pm the music was switched to a bit softer selection, still loud but not the pounding-thumping that had been played up to that point. The boys still wanted to swim so I finally went back up to the front desk and inquired again when the late-running event would be over so the kids could swim. They just said go ahead and swim, so my kids marched right through the partiers and jumped in, while my husband and I stood poolside watch. It was ridiculous that the DJ and partiers took over the pool while paying hotel guests' complaints were ignored. I would not stay at this hotel again, as a matter of fact, avoid spending any overnight stays in Belize City - get out to the Cayes or go to a jungle resort - the City was dirty and everyone we spoke to said DON'T walk anywhere after dark - take a taxi and travel in numbers if you have to venture out. The hotel had security guards walking the premises very visibly and the grounds were well-lit so I felt safe, but my overall impression of this Best Western wasn't great.

Please do not stay at this hotel. My fiancee and I stayed here the other night, after doing a Belize trip on Ambergris Caye. We decided to stay on the mainland for our last night and it was not worth it. This hotel/motel is on the outskirts of the city, which is probably a good thing (as the city is not nice), but it was not near anything. The rooms were not updated for the price you pay and the shower/bath was the worst we've ever encountered. The water temp. fluxuated, which is not uncommon, but while showering you could not keep the tub spigot from leaking water and their was a clog so you were standing in a tub of water while showering. Then they only left us 2 oversized hand towels to bathe in. When I tried to get another towel, the next morning (after they took our dirty ones and never replaced them), they gave me an oversized beach towel, which I had to sign out. Also, they did not give us a remote for the TV, but we did see mention of signing one out. The pool and grounds are not that bad, but they are not saving graces. The restaurant staff was very slow and unattentive. There are basically 3 main hotels around Belize City...we went to the Princess Hotel and Casino and that had a nice lobby and a casino, bowling alley, arcade, and movie theater. However, we heard that they don't put any money into the hotel itself and we were told not to stay there. The other hotel is the Radisson, still did not look impressive, but we were told it was the best of the three.

Stayed here for 9 nights. Nice, fairly clean room with fairly modern amenities. AC, cable TV in room; Internet service at computer near front desk for about $1.50/15 minutes. Front lobby area in need of remodel, way outdated with no AC. Nice gift shop. Restaurant food overpriced and average. Restaurant service average to excellent. Maintenance very responsive. Outside hotel does not feel safe. Security person walking around. Daily housekeeping mixed; sometimes room cleaned well and sometimes barely touched. I don't believe the sheets were changed at all. Pool pretty good, often over-chlorinated. Poolside bar open occasionally. Manager type person very helpful with getting around. Not in walking distance of anything.

Just got back from Belize and stayed at Biltmore one night passing through Belize City and one night prior to flying out. Hotel is fine -- nothing fancy by our standards, but it's clean and the staff is generally helpful. Pool was necessary as they had a heat wave during our first stay. Rooms are basic, but comfortable. We stayed on the second floor initially -- had low water pressure and very erratic hot water. Forgot to request a room that was non-smoking. It was noticable. Our return had us on the ground floor -- much better water pressure and hot water. Non-smoking room was much better. Food is fine -- breakfast buffet isn't lavish (ran out of syrup, slow to fill the platters) but it's filling.
