“Will never stay again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Never expected a hotel like this, unfortunately had no option as only one of the 2 hotels and Radison being so expensive.

Enter the hotel the front desk doesn't smile nor make an effort to help.
Enter the room and the trash can was not even cleared still had what was left by previous guests.
We go for dinner after ordering for Salad and Small pizza waited for about 45 min for it to come, and salad was more like a soup and the pizza was not even hot.
The shower in the room the water trickles no pressure. The wi-fi does not work in the room.

Only good thing the checkout was fast looks like they wanted to get rid of us quickly.
Will never go back .

My husband and I had a very nice stay at this hotel. The U.S. military was there and it made me feel all that much more safe. The hotel has great security as they constantly were walking around and keeping an eye on the place. The food was great! Loved their breakfast! They gym is very good too. I loved the rooms as they are very modern and up to date. The only problem we encountered was internet issues due to the hotel being booked up. We spoke with management and that was corrected. All in all, a very pleasant stay!

When we stayed at the BW Belize Biltmore Plaza in late April 2013, it was busy ... with U.S. Air Force troops. Apparently they were overnighting in Belize City en route to some mission or other in Belize. The Armed Forces folks were polite and friendly, and we felt very safe, but they did fill up all but the most expensive rooms.

We stayed here on a Sunday and the Riverside Tavern where we enjoy eating when in Belize City was closed, so we ate at the hotel restaurant. I'd give it an okay, not great, not terrible. (The Air Force people had their own buffet in the restaurant set up by the hotel.) On the other hand, we were at the bar at happy hour, so local rum drinks were a relative bargain -- something like BZ$5 for two drinks.

Our deluxe room, way at the back on the second floor, was actually nicer than I expected. The superior rooms have been upgraded since I was last there. Good ice-cold A/C, newish TV and very comfortable bed. The hotel didn't have anybody available to carry luggage up to our room, but a hotel security guard showed us where it was.

The swimming pool was so-so, and there were a lot of mosquitoes around the pool.

It is nice not to have to worry about the safety of your car in the guarded, fenced parking lot, although the lot was almost 100% full -- think we got the last space.

Overall, the Biltmore Plaza is what it's always been -- a safe, mediocre, somewhat overpriced choice -- our room was over US$200 double -- on the outskirts of town (the Northern Highway of course is now called the Goldson Highway).

Relative to hotels worldwide, this hotel is only a 3 (out of 5) rating. But don't let that turn you away, because relative to Belize City hotels, this property is a very good option -- trustworthy, reliable, clean, safe, and contains all the standard amenities expected in hotels in the US and Canada.

This is an especially good option for travelers needing a place to stay for one night before departing from BZE. Only ~10 minute drive to the airport along Northern Highway. Of the hotels I'd trust in Belize City, this is the closest to BZE.

For dining, there is a hotel restaurant, but it is overpriced and the food is horrendous. I'd recommend Sahara, a Lebanese restaurant directly across the street of the hotel -- clean interior, good food, A/C.

Pros:
+ A/C works well once turned up
+ great pool, very clean
+ spacious rooms with sufficient number of electrical outlets

Cons:
- bathroom has jalousie windows, so a lot of exterior noise comes in
- older/dated fixtures, flooring, etc. (but this is generally par for the course in Belize)
- WiFi didn't work in 1st room we were put in, but worked fine once we were moved to a different room
- ceiling fan didn't work in either of the 2 rooms
- EXPENSIVE; I had to pay $170 USD/night during low season!

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel. We are concerned about the comments of food quality and price, we hope to improve in this area as we are in the process of getting new menus and reviewing the current prices.
With regards to the room rate, please know that our slow season for this year is August and September as we are still running at 100% occupancy. Please let us know when you plan to return and we can offer you a preferred rate. Once again, thanks for your feedback.

The Biltmore Plaza is a nice hotel not far from the airport. In Belize, like other central American countries; it is important to be safe at all times. For well traveled guests who have common sense when it comes to traveling; the Biltmore can't be beat! I would stay here again.

I stayed here two nights as part of a tour group. The hotel is handy to the airport, and the swimming pool is pleasant. My room was clean. But there were other problems.

The food at dinner was barely acceptable. A singer with a microphone was so loud that no one was able to talk. Breakfast was a bit better.

Using the safety deposit boxes (obviously a necessity in this neighborhood), required a credit card swipe...with a charge of $200 if the key was lost.

I found Belizeans to be kind, friendly, and helpful--but not the staff of this hotel. They appeared to be more afraid of losing their jobs than solving problems for customers.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your unfortunate experience with us. I regret that our chef did not satisfy your taste buds, as he aims for our customer satisfaction at all time.
With regards to the safety deposit box fee; it’s a required deposit that in the event the key is lost or is not return we will need to destroy the box completely and have it replaced as there is only one original key for each box. Please know that our rooms are currently being updated with safety deposit in all rooms.
Thank you again for your comments and we hope to serve you again.

The hotel was just ok. We were advised NOT to go out walking as the neighborhood was dangerous. We were with a group and the hotel was chosen for its proximity to the airport (15 min). There are no beaches here and this part of town is not approaching anything like quaint. The food was adequate and the beds good. However, we had plumbing problems. They were over booked (lots of military TDY here) so wouldn't change our room. We left for the day to go to Lamani Ruins so they had ALL day to fix it but we returned to tools in the bathroom, outside sink area, the toilet in pieces, and far too much water puddling on the floor. Housekeeping seemed shocked but nothing seemed to hurry anyone (that's how it is in Belize). Eventually it all was put to rights and it was our last night but we were offered no compensation for inconvenience. The tour company uses this hotel all the time yet we had to fight for a one hour late check-out.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to be equal. We were away from the pool but opened to a nice garden area so it was...

Thanks for your review of your recent stay at the Biltmore.

I’d like to apologize for the unfortunate maintenance and housekeeping issues that resulted in not meeting your expectation and sorry we had no alternate accommodation available to offer since we were fully booked. Please know that your concerns have been forwarded to both the maintenance and housekeeping manager to find out exactly what went wrong.

In regards to beach; there are no beaches within Belize City, most travelers do their land base tours on the mainland before heading out to the island where it’s relaxed atmosphere and water-sports activities.

We were pleased that we were able to arrange a late check-out for you and we hope that you would give us the chance to host in the near future.
