“Excellent Adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We booked VIV Tours cave tubing trip online before we left Galveston on our Princess Cruise. We read the reviews here and felt comfortable booking a tour with them instead of a cruise ship tour saving us over $100. As it turned out, it was a great decision. We were met outside the pier by a VIV staff person and escorted to our departure area. We were introduced to our guides ( Kareem and Nadine ) and shown our air conditioned van. We paid our fare, loaded into the van, and were shortly underway.

The drive to the caves was about 45 minutes or so but went very fast. Kareem provided us information and kept us entertained the entire trip ... even though it was only his 2nd day on the job .. ( obviously not the case ) .. We were given our gear and led down a trail to the caves. The walk was between 30-45 minutes and was very informative. Kareem told us about all the plants and detailed their purposes. He took his time and our walk was very leisurely. As stated in previous reviews, we did not have to carry our tubes with us during this part of the tour. I remember commenting several times about how happy I was we chose VIV because everyone else from other tour companies, including the overpriced ship tour, was wagging their tubes. The walk was great, and Kareem made sure everyone was together and answered all questions. We were even treated to termite appetizers .. I passed, but some did not.

The caves were , at risk of sounding cliche, AMAZING !!. We were given our tubes close to the entry point and only carried them a short time. The tubes were perfect, head rests and netted bottoms as well as cup holders. The helmets had LED lights and provided adequate illumination. As it is January, the water was kinda cool, but we adjusted quickly. Our tubes were linked together as a group and off we went. The journey through the caves lasted about an hour and was very relaxing. The formations were spectacular. We even saw some insect bats hiding in the holes in the ceiling. After exiting the caves we continued uncovered down the river to the exit point after stopping briefly along the way for the kids in our group to have a short swim. We exited the river and carried our tubes the short distance back to the starting point..

They had clean bathrooms for changing clothes and there were the obligatory vendors selling trinkets, beverages, snacks and even renting water shoes ($3 per pair). Some people purchased lunch and ,as I understand, it was good. After a brief period ( approximately 3 beers worth and 1 to go) we were gathered up and started our return to the pier.

I will say that we enjoyed this tour very much and would highly recommend it to everyone visiting Belize. Everything went very well. I also will say that the staff was very friendly and helpful. Kareem was very entertaining and extremely informative (especially since it was only his 2nd day on the job). Thanks again Kareem, we enjoyed very much being in your company and hope very much to see you again !! You were one of the highlights of our trip !!

“What a fun time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

A great time! A few things to know: you do have to be driven to the area, which takes about 1 hour. Then you will walk through the rainforest for almost another hour to reach the starting point for the tubing. One of the benefits of VIV tours - you don't have to carry your tubes until the very end. When it is humid and warm out, this is a big plus. Our guide, Roberto, showed us so many plants, trees, etc. and explained what they were used for, which was quite interesting. We even happened to see a coatimundi walk out in front of us (looks like if you crossed an anteater and a raccoon). The actual tubing part was very relaxing and beautiful. Once you are past the caves, you still get to tube in the sunshine until you reach the point of origin. We did get lunch, which was a great deal for only $5 per person. We had a lot of fun, and we would definitely recommend it.

“You Rock!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We just returned from a cruise and our cave rafting trip was the highlight. VIV seemed so much better prepared and knowledgeable than the other tours we saw. But what made it absolutely wonderful were our guides, Kareem and Rock. What amazing young men. They were so knowledgeable and helpful, and proud to share their love of their country. Perfect ambassadors for Belize!!

“Would recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Our tour guide was definitely WONDERFUL. You got a great educational experience from Roberto as well as cabe tubing. He stopped along the way and told us about the Hondo culture, plants, bugs, Mayan's. One of the stops consisted him of coaxing a tarantula out of it's hole and holding it. My daughter was the first to volunteer from our group. All the other tours walking by to cave tubing were in awe!
The walk is about 40 minutes to the farthest cave were we got in. Other tours are shorter and VIV had our tubes a few short yards from the drop in location, so we were spoiled that you don't have to carry them during your hike. Bring water shoes! The tour guides accomodated one in our grou as we did have one in the group with a cane.
Food was available to purchase, and snacks also....be aware...bring small bills and I would recommend snacks as our Pringles cost $5.00!!! The ride from our pick up point outside Carnival Terminal was 60+ minutes. No place to use the restroom until you get there!
We had previously done this kind of thing years ago with Carnival and opted for a personal tour guide this time, we were safe and had a great time. I would recommend this!

“What a great time!”

We booked the Mayan ruins tour and Roberto with VIV was our tour guide.
He was very knowledgeable and was very helpful. He answered all questions and went above and beyond to help out. The tours through VIV were smaller groups and more one on one.
