“This is a long review but, please take the time to read it! Cave Tubing R Us ROCKS!!!”
We just returned from our 7 day Carnival cruise from Mobile, Alabama with ports at Cozumel, Roatan, & Belize. A friend that used to work for Carnival, recommended cave tubing in Belize which sounded like fun so, I began to research several cave tubing companies online. I prefer to use locally owned and operated companies when I travel as to be sure that the money goes directly into the local economy. While researching, I came across Cave Tubing R US and I chose to book a cave tubing tour for our group of 15 for numerous reasons but, here are just a few...1) The fact that the tubes for our group were roped together while the other groups with different companies had their feet under the armpits of the person in tube in front of them. 2) The bottom of our tubes had netting in them so we could sit up "indian style" in them…which turned out to be very comfortable. 3) The owner, David, himself replied to each & every one of my emails in a very timely manner. 4) Unlike other companies, Cave Tubing R Us doesn't require you to pay in advance. Traveling in a foreign country this was reassuring to everyone in our group that we were with a trustworthy company that would not leave us stranded somewhere.
I can honestly say that Cave Tubing R Us was the RIGHT choice for us! When we arrived in Belize on Wed., 10/19/2011, there had been 5 days of rain from a tropical depression. Because of this, the run-off from the mountains had the river at a higher level than normal therefore; limiting part of the tour for us (we could only tour one of the cave systems). However, we chose to go anyway (note: the cruise passengers that booked through Carnival did not have a choice, their excursion was cancelled and many of them did not even leave the ship at this port). David, the owner of Cave Tubing R Us (who has the most infectious laugh you will ever hear), and Henry (who is a pioneer of cave tubing in Belize and a military veteran) greeted our group with a sign with our name on it right at the door of the terminal. They had a very clean, air conditioned (important factor since our group is from the South), comfortable bus waiting for us and we were quickly off on our Belizean adventure! It began with David & Henry telling us fun filled with facts about themselves, the Belizean culture, the mountains, the river, and caves. Oh! and they made sure that we had an ice chest filled with cold bottled water and local coconut rum & pineapple juice! Along the way, we stopped at a local grocery store so that we could purchase local beer and snacks for the ride. It just so happens that our group purchased enough to fill two ice chests and since we only had one on the bus, David's wife was kind enough to meet us at a gas station with an extra one filled with ice. As we proceeded with our adventure, we had a small mishap...our bus broke down! Not to worry though, within 30 minutes David's wife and another driver showed up with a van and we were off, AGAIN!!! Please note that we were by NO MEANS discouraged or upset about this...things happen and we just caulked it up as part of our adventure!
Once we arrived, we took a moment change before heading down the trail to the river (NOTE: we left our belongings on the van and upon returning, found EVERYTHING to be safe & secure just as we had left them). The hike down the trail was a fairly easy walk however, when someone in our group fell behind, David was great about hanging back with them as Henry led the rest of the group on and at no time where we made to feel as though we were on a timeline or needed to rush. At the river our group of 15 broke off into two smaller groups of 8 with David & 7 with Henry. With David leading my particular group of 8, the float down the river and through the cave was both relaxing and informative. David made sure to point out several different rock formations, bats hanging in their nests, a waterfall which Mayans believe is HOLY WATER, and an oasis nestled deep in the cave. The other tours seemed to just float right by the waterfall and rush through the cave as our two groups enjoyed every minute of our adventure. Once out of the cave, we were even encouraged to get out of our tubes and float freely down the river and jump off of a large rock hanging out over the river. Both David & Henry seemed sincerely interested in making sure that we enjoyed ourselves and you can rest assured...we definitely did!
Instead of opting to stop to try local cuisine, we informed David that we wanted to be back in time to meet some friends at the Wet Lizard and he assured us that we would be back in plenty of time (and we were). On the ride back to the terminal, Henry was a plethora of knowledge about the local home building industry(several in our group are REALTORS & builders) which made for an interesting ride even for those in our group that are not in the building industry.
If you're going to visit Belize, book a cave tubing trip with Cave Tubing R Us. You will absolutely LOVE David & Henry...they are very hospitable and went out of their way to make sure we had an unBELIZEable time!!! Be sure to tell them that the Weber group from Mobile, Alabama sent ya! Oh! and...Laissez les bons temps rouler or Let the good times roll!!!
