My girlfriend and I stayed here in one of the upper rooms recently. The place is in a pretty good location and is fairly nice. It's run/owned by a local Belizean man and his wife, a Canadian woman. On the positives it is a pretty nice place with a nice balcony. The lady cleans the room daily. The water is really not hot. It was either warm or not heated at all. It wasn't too bad as at even room temp. the water was bearable. The negatives were mainly the EXTREME frugalness/penny pinching of the lady that owns the place. It wasn't that big of a deal to deal with extra money it's just kind of the annoyance and principle of the thing. Examples -- Turn the ceiling fan off when you leave the room, turn the a/c off (which costs extra) when you leave the room, advertises a coffee pot with coffee yet only gives about a tablespoon and a half of coffee per day (this makes ONE cup) and will not give more, charges $12/ per person per day to use a bicycle (other places let you use their bikes for free), will not allow a 1030 check out instead of a 1000 check out. Overall this place is OK, but there's a lot better for the same price. Caye Caulker in itself is a nice place with a slow island lifestyle.

We spent five pleasant nights in the Cabana. Everything on Caye Caulker is within reasonable walking distance. While we took a golfcart taxi to Morningstar, but we carried our bags back to the ferry dock.

HOT SHOWER - Other reviewers have complained about getting cold showers. If you want to be a happy world traveler, you have to study world plumbing arrangements. The sower has an electric water heater in the shower head which only works when the bathroom light switch is on.

AR from Canada

Our visit to Belize was fabulous. Great weather and our
stay at the Jaquar Morningstar was a great experience. We stayed in the cabana for a week and found it very comfortable and clean. Coffee, yeah! The owners Alison and Joanne were most hospitable. They had great recreation recomendations. The snorkling was wonderful. We are looking forward to our next visit to Belize and have booked the cabana again.

We arrived in Caye Caulker a day earlier than planned, and the place we had reserved for the rest of our stay (Maxhapan Cabanas) was not available, so we had to find another place to stay. We ended up staying at the Morningstar because it looked charming, the price was good ($50/night including tax), and the owner seemed friendly.

However, the stand-alone unit we stayed in (cabin/cabana) had some serious problems. First, despite the fact that I explicitly asked whether there was hot water and the owner said yes, we received no hot water. We had it run for almost 20 minutes, and still no hot water. We could not get the owner's assistance because it was late and the office appeared closed. Taking cold showers was not fun, especially when we were paying on the expensive side for Caye Caulker.

Second, large ants and spiders started appearing everywhere along the walls. There were also a lot of mosquitos, which made it very difficult to sleep with them buzzing around you, and also knowing that malaria is an issue in Belize. It was a very uncomfortable stay, and we were very glad to move to the Maxhapan Cabanas for the remainder of our stay (which were great).

I recommend avoiding this place, at least the stand-alone cabin/cabana.

Quiet location away from the main social scene of the Caye. Beautiful clean room with balcony (shared) perfect for sunbathing in the morning and a lovely view. Shower was smelly (sulfurous water) and no hot water. There are cheaper places on the island so look around!!!

We really loved our stay here! It took 21 hours to arrive but once we finally made it there we couldn't have been happier! When we first got off the water taxi the walk seemed to be a bit far but that turned out only to be because we were so exhasuted. The location was perfect. It was close to town, but just outside the main strip so it was quiet and peaceful. It overlooked the school so we got to see all the little ones outside our window.

Joanne and Alison (the owners) are very sweet and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help out with any problems or question. The location on the third floor was great because we got a great view from our balcony and a nice breeze.
There was a fridge in the room (huge bonus!) and our room was cleaned everyday. Plenty of hot water and even satelittle TV (even though the island scenary provided much more entertainment than a TV ever could!) Overall really loved it!

-Snorkel with Carlos tours- he's awesome and saw some incredible things
-watch the sunrise, early but worth it
-fill your belly full of Belikin beer
-Eat at the sandbox- slow service, but great food at reasonable prices
