Have just returned from a fab trip to Caye Caulker in Belize. We stayed at the Ocean Pearle Hotel as recommended by our friends who stayed there a few months ago. This was a lovely little place run by the very friendly and helpful Ray and Mariah. Our room was nice and comfortable and cleaned thoroughly each day for us while we were out. The gardens have a couple of hammocks which we made good use of with our books and Belikin Beers! We loved the location of the Ocean Pearle as it was just a 2 minute walk around to the Split which is a laid back spot for sunbathing, swimming and drinking the evil Lizard Juice at the bar there!
Dont miss a trip to the Reef to snorkel with the Sharks and Rays - that is an amazing experience. Anwar Tours does a great half day trip for about $50bz.
Overall the Ocean Pearle is a simple, laid back spot which we thought was good value for the price - only $45us for a A/C room.

Agree with previous review - the "main" part of hotel was filthy...and I DO NOT expect (despise) the Cancun or Playa del Carmen set. Even the toilet bins were not emptied, window had no screens.

By the sounds of it, I think the private cabins are decent, but the "main hotel" forlorn and forgotten.

We recently stayed at the OPR hotel as part of a trip through Guatemala and Belize. The only reason our group stayed there was because they had overbooked the regular hotel and it honestly looked like they had opened up OPR just for us. It has the feeling of a run-down, former hotel. It has great potential but the two nights we were there, the only "cleaning" that was done was to make the bed. Many of our group's rooms had such filfthy bathrooms they couldn't use them. No front-desk as such - the place felt deserted by staff. Third rate at best.

Firstly, those who go to Caye Caulker cannot expect it to be Cancun (thank goodness). It's a low key, nice place to relax, meet cool people, dive, and just chill. That being said- you have to also expect hotels, motels, hostels, and guest houses to also have a laid backness, though there are obviously places to meet anyone's comfort needs.
Ocean Pearl is just such a place to just chill. No one picks up after you, there are no mints on the pillow, there is no AC in the cabana, there is no valet. If you like chill, this is the place. It may not be ON the beach but it is a spit away. Ray and Mariya are making many, many improvements to the rooms and the cabanas so it will be awesome in the upcoming months and year. We (my brother, friend, and I) did not have problems here. The cabanas were fine for what we were looking for. Mariya and Ray are such lovely people that offer any assistance they can. The price is soo reasonable. My brother, friend, and I would gladly come back and stay with the Mariya and Ray at Ocean Pearle. Did I also mention it is close to the Split and Frenchie's Diving shop. So an all round great location to boot!
