Firstly, those who go to Caye Caulker cannot expect it to be Cancun (thank goodness). It's a low key, nice place to relax, meet cool people, dive, and just chill. That being said- you have to also expect hotels, motels, hostels, and guest houses to also have a laid backness, though there are obviously places to meet anyone's comfort needs.
Ocean Pearl is just such a place to just chill. No one picks up after you, there are no mints on the pillow, there is no AC in the cabana, there is no valet. If you like chill, this is the place. It may not be ON the beach but it is a spit away. Ray and Mariya are making many, many improvements to the rooms and the cabanas so it will be awesome in the upcoming months and year. We (my brother, friend, and I) did not have problems here. The cabanas were fine for what we were looking for. Mariya and Ray are such lovely people that offer any assistance they can. The price is soo reasonable. My brother, friend, and I would gladly come back and stay with the Mariya and Ray at Ocean Pearle. Did I also mention it is close to the Split and Frenchie's Diving shop. So an all round great location to boot!

“Not a good start at Ocean pearl”

Ocean Pearle Royale Hotel

I had a bad start at ocean pearl, iI ad made reservations two months in advance for a cabin to rent for 7 weeks. When I arrived the cabin was filthy, screens broken or missing, no usable bathroom sink, hair all over the shower, very hot, no breeze, pillows without pillow cases. i feel the management had plenty of time to get the cabin ready. There was no excuse for the way it was presented. will never go there again and won't recommend to anyone. got out after one night.

“Terrible Experience !!!!!”

The rooms are very small, and there is no privacy. All rooms are connecting to a large lobby. The lobby is loud at night with the doors that slam close. Their are typically two windows one is open to the large lobby (that has no screens) and if you keep the window open you will have no privacy, and the bugs eat you alive at night. The other window you have to keep the curtains tied back in order for them not to get caught in the ceiling fan. So this creates a large fish bowl that allows everyone to look into your room. There is only a/c in 2 rooms out of the 9!
When we spoke to the management about the problems, and informed them that the description on the web site differed from the actual room, and a refund was requested for the night we had left we were denied due to “they do not give refunds on reservations”

The Ocean Pearl Royale is a hotel right off the main drag in Caye Caulker. There are about ten rooms and two cabanas on the premises, run by the charming Belizean Frenchie, who also owns a dive shop on the island. The interior of the hotel lobby is adorned with lovely undersea creature paintings.

While Frenchie himself no longer dives, he's full of great ocean stories-- and his charm is hard to resist. His hotel is well equipped (all rooms with A/C and private bath) and most often caters to tour groups. Average rates are $40 US a night for a double bed and $65 US a night for a cabana, slightly higher probably in the highest season, and lower in the summer.

The hotel is about 4 years old now, and is going through continual improvements... you get the sense that in a couple of years it will be a resort.
