My wife and I stayed here and I must say, we got what we paid for. At $55 US we figured it couldn't be that bad, right?.....well, it should've been priced at about $25 due to the plumbing and smelly bathroom and thin walls and uncomfy beds......

You get what you pay for is the lesson here. We won't stay here again, HOWEVER, the snorkeling tour they arranged for us was very good, so I give 'um that.

But overall, spend a few extra bucks and stay your nights in comfort.

I just got back from Caye Caulker in Belize and had to write up a review about one hotel that I stayed at called "The Hotel Tropix". The people that own the place and work there are very kind and the place is centrally located, which is a plus. However, you get what you pay for. I got bed bugs while I was there. My body was filled with puffy inflamed rashes and the itches were ferocious, which lasted for a few days. I asked to get a refund for the future nights I had already paid for and even after seeing that I did indeed have bed bugs they still declined to return my money back to me. I ended up having to pay for another 2 nights hotel somewhere else on top of the 2 nights hotel that I already paid to them because I needed to get out of there asap. Just a caution to anyone travelling there is to stay away if you don't want to take the chance of getting the bugs all over your body too!

- NOT GOOD - was quoted one price on the Internet web site, $55.00/night, and my credit card was charged a higher price, $59.99 plus taxes. When questioned on this via the Internet no response was received. Cabana poor, shower ran continuously. Hot water sometimes. Toilet loose on the floor, that seal was broken thus sewage leaked onto the bath floor continuously. Rooms cleaned and beds made when they wished to and not every day. No mirror in the bath. Noisy location at night. Not really a beach front Cabana as it is across Front Street and the mobile BBQ stand often sets up on the beach side giving us the aroma of BBQ chicken and pork. We walked away from several prepaid nights.

On the plus side the food on the island was very good. We can recommend “Wish Willies” even though it looks strange and the tiny Coffee Shop on Front Street.

The location of this place is fantastic -- it is right downtown, within walking distance to food, shops, and the split. The outside of the hotel was also very nicely maintained.

The rooms, however, were filthy. The bathrooms are moldy, the walls spotted, and the beds had only a top and fitted sheet that were threadbare. The worst, though, were the bed bug bites I woke up with after staying here. Do not stay at this hotel. There has to be something better on Caye Caulker.
