- NOT GOOD - was quoted one price on the Internet web site, $55.00/night, and my credit card was charged a higher price, $59.99 plus taxes. When questioned on this via the Internet no response was received. Cabana poor, shower ran continuously. Hot water sometimes. Toilet loose on the floor, that seal was broken thus sewage leaked onto the bath floor continuously. Rooms cleaned and beds made when they wished to and not every day. No mirror in the bath. Noisy location at night. Not really a beach front Cabana as it is across Front Street and the mobile BBQ stand often sets up on the beach side giving us the aroma of BBQ chicken and pork. We walked away from several prepaid nights.

On the plus side the food on the island was very good. We can recommend “Wish Willies” even though it looks strange and the tiny Coffee Shop on Front Street.

“Nice location, but that's it”

The location of this place is fantastic -- it is right downtown, within walking distance to food, shops, and the split. The outside of the hotel was also very nicely maintained.

The rooms, however, were filthy. The bathrooms are moldy, the walls spotted, and the beds had only a top and fitted sheet that were threadbare. The worst, though, were the bed bug bites I woke up with after staying here. Do not stay at this hotel. There has to be something better on Caye Caulker.

I got off the Caulker boat on Feb 1st with no reservations and no clue as to where to stay. Since it was high season, I turned left and looked for a hotel on the south side. I found the Anchorage Hotel but it turned out too quiet and too far from town. I then found the Tropics and their cabana almost right in the street. Michelle helped me out at the front desk and gave me a great rate since I wanted it for the week.

I loved this hotel and the relaxing 'lobby' which is the front yard where you can sit at a picnic table and watch the town walk by. The staff here was so friendly - Luis and his cute daughter Ariana, Michele and Ryan, I forgot the maid's name - he was a darling young man from Thailand. I liked them all and they felt like family.

My cabana had 2 beds, 2 fans, fridge, TV and a large private lanai. It was cleaned every day and I would be happy to stay here again.

We found the Tropics Hotel in Caye Caulker walking around the Caye while on an extended stay in Belize. For the price we thought it to be above average. Adequate room, and super location and people.

It has a great location on the main street facing the beach. The rooms was was simple but large with 2 double beds. The bath was also very large with hot & cold water, storage shelves and nice towels. The plumbing was simple but worked well. The linens were a little thin but in this climate who cares? Air-conditioned rooms are available.

Great staff! Very friendly, always available and helped us with anything that we requested. Basically, if you let them know that you need something TP, bedding, or help setting up a snorkel trip they did their best. They also were happy to talk about the Caye its past & future & mostly had always lived there.

Outside the rooms was a great courtyard with people relaxing on deck chairs and sitting at picnic tables. Super place to relax in paradise and watch the water for a minimum cost.

Being close to the entertainment led to some loud drumming at night. Can't say if this is good or bad, depends on your mood at the moment.

Star Tours are on the premesis and we got a discount on the snorkel trip by staying there.

We stumbled onto Tropics after getting off the Triple J boat at their dock (not the other dock at the end of the beach, which is more popular). We asked how much the room was and she said $20. After spending more than we would have liked at Tikal, we were willing to sacrifice quality for price. We checked out the room to make sure it was alright. There were 2 beds, a bathroom with a huge shower, and a fan. We decided to take it, since we weren't spending much time in the room anyway.

It worked out fine for what we paid. We were on the second floor and had a nice view of the ocean. It didn't seem to be very busy, possibly because it was low season, so there weren't many guests to make noise. One of the bars did play loud music into the night, but we had earplugs, so it was fine. The fan worked fine as well.

We found the staff very helpful, giving us access to our safety deposit bags several times a day, and selling us really cheap beer and water. The guy in the scuba shop let us borrow snorkelling equipment for free, so we could go to The Split.

Had we spent much more than $20 (like $30) I would have been less impressed, but I was quite impressed with the value.
