We went to Caye Caulker on Apr 28 and stayed till May 5th. We were sad to leave because we were so busy that we had no chance to hang around. I think we needed another 3-4 days before we would get bored. We arrived from Canada through Texas since there are no direct flights after March break. From the international airport in Belize City we were transfered by taxi ($25US) aprox. 20 min ride to the water taxi ($15 each) which takes about 45 min to reach Caye Caulker. On the way we passed by other islands to distracted us from looking at the vast of water ahead of you. We were helped by the water taxi captain with our 3 heavy suitcases to the dock. We felt lucky that our hotel was right off the dock because there no paved walkways and pulling our lougage through the sand would be difficult. After checking in we were lead to our cabana (#2) that was well airconditioned. I was little disappointed at first when I saw the room because it looked nicer on the pictures. Another small disappointment came when I wanted to put away our clothes and quickly learned that the dresser (only one in the room) has 3 shelves for 2 people and about 12 inches of hanging space. We ended up keeping most of our clothes in our bags. We were glad that the AC, TV, shower ,toilet and little fridge were working. We got used to the look of our room and wrinkled clothing streight from suitcase didn't bother us anymore. Don't bring a lot of clothes, there are several loundromats where you can wash your clothes. Also, don't bring any fancy clothes; shirts and T-shirts are just fine. There are many restaurants on the island. We tried most of them. The food is freshly made for you so sometimes it takes little longers to get it but it is good. A meal may cost from $10- 20 US. Portions are fairly big so many times we didn't have to have lunch. If you eat 4 and a half burritos or more at Rasta Pasta you won't have to pay for it There is a supermarket where you can get many products. We did some grocery shopping at the Chan's supermarket. There you can buy a Calling Card if you want to call home. It is a lot chiper than calling collect or credit card, its aprox 50c per min. Our main purpose for this trip was getting to know Belize; the land and water. We went snorkling at Hol Chan and it was wondreful! We swem with sharks, rays, turtles and other big fish. We also went scuba diving to many different sites including Blue Hole which was the highlight of all diving. The companies we went diving with were Belize Diving Services, Aquarius Divers form San Padro, and Mario's Snorkling Tour. All of them were great ! We enjoyed every trip. On land we decided that we want to see some Mayan Ruins and we went to Lamanai (the second largest in Belize) and Altun Ha. These were two differert trips. Along with Altun Ha we did cave tubing ( try to do the 9 caves) ; it is relaxing and the views are out of this world. Same day we also went zip line-ing through rainforest. Our guide was Vitalino Reyes. All in all our stay in Caye Caulker, Belize was simple and adventurous, one of a kind. Many thanks to Seaside Cabanas employees for everthing but most of all for arranging a flight for me to Belize Airport so I could be on time for my departurt home. Hope to come back soon.
