“Great location, really clean, well put together hostel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2011

I stayed here with two friends in April. I had made reservations ahead of time (which was good because when we went around Easter, it was all booked), and the owner kept the fourth bed in our dorm room empty so we had it to ourselves, which was really nice. The hostel is really clean, well-kept, and everything seems a lot newer and more put together than inmost hostels. Also, awesome location and great outdoor space.

The owner, susanna, is wonderful! We had an amazing time, and what a great deal to have a private room on the water, fully equipped kitchen, clean spacious bathrooms, and right around the corner from main street and a convenience store. I wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island!!!!

Room Tip: make a reservation, the place is always booked!

Yumas House Belize is right on the water. As I write this i'm having my last cup of coffee on their balcony overlooking a calm and crystal blue see. They have three hammocks on a small pier jutting out from the beach in front of them and plenty more under the palm trees in the yard.

There is a night guard and plenty of cleaners - everything is always clean and you can always get something if you need it. Susanne is quite mommying in demeanor but an excellent manager and is very efficient.

It is low season now and they're full every day. Book ahead!

Perfect location, hostel, rooms and just overall vibe. You'll want to stay forever. Susanne was a wonderful host and keeps a fabulous hostel. You shouldn't go anywhere else. Super value, especially private rooms. So much to offer - snorkeling with manatees and turtles in the day or just relaxing in the hammocks overlooking the water. You can't ask for anything more. A smaller hostel so it's easy to get to know people.

I really appreciate this place, just a stone's throw from the ferry. To be honest I could afford "better" but I love places like this, rife with travelers. If you are a fuddy duddy with a desire to know thread counts and ideal water temperatures, just move on. Truth be told, none of the people here probably agree with your disposition. Backpackers and loving journal-scribblers will find kindred spirits here, and hammocks. Two kitchens allow for cooking and a host of games line the shelves. Water bottle refills
are a BZ dollar. There is no pressure to take packages set up by the hostel, which was a welcomed sigh for me after getting hit hard in so many other hostels. They were working on upkeep with the stairs and painting corners when I arrived, the kind of simple repair work that, if let go, brings a hostel down a notch quickly. I'd imagine that keeping up with sea spray and rain decay has got to cost a pretty penny, and i admired the effort. It'd be very difficult not to meet other people here, so it's especially recommended for solo travelers. Also of note, i've seen a couple of ruffles about the partying curfew and the rules of at Yuma's - I whole heartedly endorse and respect them. It provides for a safe space for everyone.

Yuma's House (formerly Tina's) is a very nice place run by some very nice people. It is super central and if you arrive by ferry from San Pedro (Ambergis Caye) it is easily visible from the jetty.

Prices are good, the rooms are good and there are lots of places to lounge out in the beautiful Caribbean sun! Lots of stuff is posted on the walls too for places to eat, things to do and general daily activities.

The only bad part is that the bathrooms probably need a little work, in the toilets there isn't even enough space for your legs when you are sitting down!

All in all, probably your best budget accommodation option on Caye Caulker (also the best caye to stay on).

Room Tip: Stay downstairs for the bathrooms and cooler space

Great place on a great island. Forget the reviews about the rules, etc. The owner (Sue) is running a great show here! The place is super clean, very colorful, right by the water and has some wicked hammock chill-out common areas. One even on the private little pier! Exactly how a hostel should look like. Perfect place to meet people, too. So there is a quiet periode after 11pm and no outside guests? Where is the problem???? Anyway...loooved the place and the island. You gotta go, but make sure you have a reservation. I saw people get turned away, too!!
PS: and to all the whiners out there. hope you spend a couple of bucks more and stay somewhere else... this is a HOSTEL, and a great one!
