“OK if the owner does not get too manic.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We went there twice. The first time the owner got into a verbal argument with a staff member, degrading him over and over. Yes, the staff member was not great but perhaps the owner needs to hire someone with more brains than continue to degrade the guy?
The drinks were good. The place has good atmosphere. The pizza crust is very thin and sparse and I found it expensive. Basically again, this is a tourist place where it is expected to cost more than going down the street for a local eatery.

“We went back 3 times”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

We stumbled on Pizza Caulker during our stay and had a great time, returning 2 more nights. The pizza was in the “good” range but for us, it was Greg the owner and the rest of the atmosphere that had us coming back. I just read a review with a couple complaints about the service etc. but as with everything, each experience is what you make of it. If your drink order isn't coming, get up and walk 5 feet to the bar! It’s a casual place and a favorite of locals and travelers. We made a point of stopping the last night just to say goodbye. Definitely a fun place to go - Greg is a great ambassador!

“Great Pizza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

It's sad to say that I had to go all the way from Montana to Caye Caulker Belize to get a great pizza. The drinks there are great as well. It is a pretty cool place with peoples names and drawings all over the inside of the walls in this tiny little open air building. The crust is handmade, thin and crispy. Pizza Caulker is a great place to eat that first night on the island.

“Let me count the ways...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

1) We asked some locals on the street where the best pizza was, and they said "Casanova's". Because Pizza Caulker is rated higher on tripadvisor, we walked over there.
2) The owner, a french-canadian, was very pushy, yelling out to us "come on in! it's the best pizza anywhere!"
3) We go in, and the waiter clearly has no business being a waiter. He is completely non-emotive and phenomenally inarticulate. He takes our drink orders.
4) After the waiter drifts away, the owner comes over and basically disses his waiter and cooks by saying, "Let me take your order; that way our cook will be able to understand exactly what you want." He then asks each of the four of us our names in a phony attempt to connect with us and writes them down in kind of creepy way.
5) After we finish our drinks he yells from behind the bar "do you want another round?" We respond "yes." The drinks never came.
6) The waiter arrived with our pizza (specially ordered by the owner so his presumably incompetent staff wouldn't screw it up) and two toppings are completely missing. The waiter apologizes and returns with a paper plate with one of the two missing toppings and says put them on, the other topping needs to be warm, so we can't do it." We tell him that we also ordered another round of drinks and he says "sorry", goes away, but never comes back with the drinks.
7) The waiter then comes up with the bill and says "because we made a mistake on the pizza we are going to give you a discount." But when he added it all up it was the same price, and when we tried to point this out to him he began to argue and so we just decided to pay the bill and get the heck out of there.

Quality of Pizza: It is not the kind of pizza I like. If you like a thin crust New York style pizza with hardly any heft or cheese on it, you may like it.

“Unofficial Canadian Embassy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Pizza Caulker was one of the highlights of my trip to Cay Caulker. After sitting around on the island for a couple of days I was happy to find a place where I could have a real conversation and make a real connection with some of the locals. Reading some of the other comments here makes me wonder what kind of self-entitled ***holes are writing them. Pizza Caulker is a tiny little pizza shack that does not pretend to be anything other than that. They make excellent pizza and Greg, the owner, pours stiff rum drinks.

I ate and drank here 4 times during the week I stayed on the island and each time was interesting and different from the others. Greg is a good chess player, plays awesome music and has a great back story.

I strongly recommend that anybody interested in getting a feel for the island, eating good pizza and meeting some interesting people go visit Pizza Caulker.
