“Lovely and Relaxing Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Beautiful property with one of the best actual beaches on Ambergris Caye. We saw a giant red starfish, stingrays, and many colorful fish right off the beach using our snorkels. Hotel was clean, comfortable, and offered fresh water. The staff was accommodating and even offered us fresh coconuts right off the beach while we sat in our beach chairs. There was a seaweed problem but the staff worked tirelessly to make sure the beach was clean as soon as possible. Food at the hotel was very pricey but we were never disappointed. Try the grilled conch! Only thing I could recommend they do better is provide coffee or tea as a courtesy in the kitchen as well as other things for the kitchen (salt/pepper/cooking oil). Think this would be very helpful for those coming. We also took one of the tours on site- shark/ray alley and Hol Chan marine preserve. The tour was awesome and our guide was extremely knowledgeable. We touched the sharks and held rays, saw huge fish, sea turtles, and many beautiful types of coral. All highly recommended!

My sisters and I loved it here! The employees are extremely hospitable, friendly, and welcoming. We were greeted by the manager with complimentary rum punch & cold neck towels and escorted by the manager upon departure. The environment was clean, safe, and relaxing. The restaurant food is delicious; I'm a Caribbean native so one of my favorite dishes is stew chicken and rice, so try the "Belizean". I will definitely vacation at this resort again soon... Overall Belize is an awesome place to visit, the people are friendly, mild mannered, and accommodating. Our stay at this resort was AWESOME!!!!

Room Tip: I loved it on 2nd floor (2story) which overlooked the beautiful scenery.

Before we arrived they made our reservations for the trip from BZE to San Pedro, and back. That was very helpful. We were greeted at the San Pedro airport and escorted over land and sea to the resort. At the resort we were greeted with moist towels and rum punch.
We talked with No Worries tours on day one to let them know what we were interested in and how long we'd be there. That was most helpful as they were able to schedule our tours to avoid any cruise ship tourist traffic. We did the Xunantunich/cave tubing trip, which was excellent, as it was our only Belize experience off Ambergris Caye. We did a couple of snorkel tours also, which we highly recommend.
It was windy the week we were there (April 15-22,2015) which was good and bad. Good as it was a nice breeze to keep it cool, and bad in that we would have liked to borrow (free of charge) a kayak to paddle out to Mexico Rocks (very close) but the wind makes paddling kayaks a lot more work. The No Worries trip to Mexico Rocks is quick, inexpensive and overall very nice.
There was sea grass. The sea grass was a lot more pleasant than the kelp along the California coast we are used to. Not too much and they worked all day to keep the beach clean. Compared to the other beaches we saw up and down the Caye, X'tan Ha was by far the best beach.
The bar and the fellas who work there are wonderful.
The restaurant was good and the staff friendly and helpful. The taxis to and from town for dinner or whatever were quick and dependable. Three restaurants (El Secreto, Portofino, and I think Matachica) have free rides from X'tan Ha and back.
We ordered groceries from the Mata Grande grocery and it was in our fridge and pantry when we arrived. That was great.
We were able to get good wi-fi at the pool, the beach and in our room. The water pressure in the shower was a bit weak, but really not a problem.
The restaurants in San Pedro we can recommend are Elvi's and Hurricane.
In general the entire staff, front desk, housekeeping, the beach cleaning crew, restaurant and bar staff we all friendly and helpful.
We were very pleased with the experience and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: We stayed in 2B, which is the purple roofed building on the beach front, the top right room as you l...

After hearing that the resorts around San Pedro may be loud and more crowded, we decided to head 7 miles north of the city to the X'tan Ha resort. We were so happy we did. It really depends what you are looking for, but for us, the peace and quiet was great, and our resort had everything we could need or want. We had to take a 20 minute water taxi to get to the resort. If you think you would like to hang out in town, this is not the place for you. If you want some seclusion, this place was great. They have 2 pools on site, a nice beach (which is hard to always come by) and an excellent beach bar that jets out onto the water. We had so much fun there, the bartenders were a blast and really engaging.

The rooms were great, very nice and spacious and clean with high ceilings. We had a full kitchen and fridge, air conditioning, and wifi. The porches all had hammocks, which were great. The grounds were nice, with tropical flowers and trees galore.

The hotel actually has a lot of fun things at your disposal for free! You could use the bikes, kayaks, and other gear. One day, we used the kayaks and rented snorkel gear ($10) and went out to a famous snorkeling site that you could see from our hotel. We had such a blast and did not feel rushed because we were on our own.

As far as dinners, the hotel has a restaurant and they also partner with a few local places. They will make reservations and arrange water taxis to take you to and from, which I thought was nice.

We had a great time, and if we went back, I think the only thing we would change would be stopping at the market for food. We had a fridge, so it would be more convenient to have breakfast and lunch already set and just go out for dinner. Other than that, we loved our stay!

Room Tip: We had a pool view, but could still the ocean and it was perfect

We didn't stay at the resort, but took a water taxi up there and stayed for the afternoon. We attempted to take our golf carts but the road was super sketchy so we ditched them at the Rojo beach bar and took the water taxi from there. It was so much fun for the kids. Awesome beach and warm, shallow water. We loved the water trampoline too! Well worth the trip up north.

My husband and I chose X'tan Ha for our honeymoon and we have nothing but wonderful things to say about the resort!!

Starting with booking, their staff was very thorough with giving us every detail of information we could need to get to the resort. They gave detailed instructions on where to go for taxis and boat rides and timing, it was extremely helpful. Then the moment we made it to the resort the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful stay. Everyone always had a smile on their face and was very knowledgeable and friendly. Denis, the front desk manager was so welcoming and helpful. He offered many suggestions throughout our stay and he was so sweet, we felt like we had known him forever! We even ran in to one of the staff members (Rajeem) on their day off in town and he was helped us with a few questions we had on getting back to the resort! You just can't beat that kind of customer service, helping even on a day off.

The restaurant, Temple Run Tavern, that is on property is also wonderful! Great food and great staff! We had such a great experience with Joshua that we found ourselves asking for him to be our server every meal we ate there! He was so helpful with recommendations and just willing to chat and make us feel welcome.

The property itself is BEAUTIFUL and is hands down the best beach on the island! It is well kept multiple times throughout the day and all of the amenities and suites were in great condition and very clean.

We absolutely loved our stay and will most definitely be going back! We cannot say enough great things about X'tan Ha!!

Room Tip: You just cannot beat a beachfront room! Great views!

We spent a delightful week here in March. The effort made by the staff in accommodating travelers was EXCELLENT. Prompt and polite pick up from airport, help with shopping for groceries, boat waiting for us when we were done, welcome drink upon our arrival were all fantastic. The resort itself is very nice - it was well done without being over the top. The staff here really were the stars - friendly and super helpful! The snorkel and fishing tours were great - we had some fantastic fish prepared for us! One evening the gents who did the snorkel trip even brought us back food from town - fantastic!
On the not so thrilling side of things - the resort is far away from town and if you are using the water taxi system (basically the only option) and you go in to town for dinner be prepared to wait for a couple hours to get back because the water taxi can be full. The website we booked through (booking.com) said that there was a free boat shuttle which could be booked however this is not true, only free shuttle was on arrival and departure. The restaurant onsite cooked tasty food but it was very expensive - and it is pretty much your only option unless you take a water taxi someplace else. We would have eaten at the resort more if the prices had been a little more reasonable. Now for the real disappointment : my son and his friend both came back with Cutaneous Larva Migrans (aka hookworm in humans) which they caught from the sand around the pool area or next to the buildings. This larva uses cats and dogs to reproduce and the eggs wind up in the moist warm sand where they hatch into larva which in turn bury into the skin of a human or animal. I assume the cat on the premises is the source as the moment of infection was very distinct (both son and his friend were itching violently over lower extremities - they were kneeling in the sand a few moments before) and the cat was hanging around the pool area. It is advisable to wear your shoes and not lie directly on the sand as it is endemic to the caribbean. Hopefully management can treat the cat.
Despite the worm issue I would recommend the resort whole heartedly.

Thanks again for choosing X'tan Ha Resort and for taking the time to share your experience with other travelers. We are so pleased that you spent a delightful week with our amazing staff and enjoyed your adventures with our onsite tour operator.

As guests will note on our website, we are located 7.2 miles OUTSIDE San Pedro Town. We explain this, how to get to the island, the complimentary arrival/departure transfers, and the water taxi system, costs and schedules on the FAQ page of our website. It’s very rare we have a guest visit us, regardless of the medium they used to book, who doesn't visit our website before arrival.

Please remember that we have an on island reservations office which is open 7 days a week including 24 hours a day Mon-Sat accessible via email, online chat and toll free number.
Regardless of how you book, please be sure to visit our FAQ page and be in touch leading up to your arrival.

In addition to our highly rated onsite restaurant, guests have the option of an additional 3 restaurants offering complimentary dinner transfers, the choice to head to town as you have noted, and the option of provisioning your suite prior to arrival. Our onsite Guest Services Manager is here to assist with all of these details and can be contacted through our FAQ page.

We are sorry that you did not feel you could inform us while you were still onsite that your son and his friend were experiencing violent itching. While a public forum is one way to inform us about an issue, we would like to ask all guests, present and future, to reach out to us immediately should they feel they have encountered or observed any areas for concern. As you mentioned, we put a lot of effort into ensuring our guests have a safe, comfortable and enjoyable stay and would have appreciated the opportunity to assist.

In regards to the cat, the cat is actually a recent addition and showed up at the resort around the same time you were vacationing here. It is our understanding the cat was being fed by a visitor and as such was encouraged to stay. Since then, we have sent the cat for a full work up and guests have been enjoying its presence. We would like to remind anyone reading this post not to feed the animals.

Our Grounds crew works tirelessly to ensure our grounds are well maintained. That being said they have no jurisdiction over the Iguanas which roam freely around the island, in and out of the sand, and within the entire Caribbean; travelers who have a concern should do their research and take the necessary precautions. Sitting or playing in the sand can also arouse Sandfleas which cause itching as well.

We hope your son and his friend are feeling better and thank you for your comments.
