“Great location and excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2009

We were at the Cloisters for 4 weeks. We found all the people in San Pedro to be very
friendly and hospitable. This beachfront location was ideal for us. Its about a 10 minute
walk to town(best along the beach as its cooler that way). The Cloisters is just far enough
out of town to be very peaceful but close enough to be able to walk to town. The Cloisters
has its own bar and butch the bartender was always very nice and helpful. There is also
the Jolly Roger bar next door which has snacks or meals. We really loved the Palapa bar
which is about a 10-15 minute walk to the North of the island along the beach. It is a two
story bar set at the end of a dock and has a wonderful view of the sea and the reef.
Food and drinks are great there and again the bartenders are extra friendly. We don't
normally drink much but this was a great place to get to know people in the area.
The pool at The Cloister is just the right temperature and is well maintained and as
we were there at a quiet season we had it pretty much to ourselves. We generally
walked to town for groceries at Richies ' Supermarket and then were given a ride back
with our groceries. It was necessary to pay the toll for the bridge which was $5.Bz.
We loved our view of the sea from our sundeck and we loved the constant ocean
breeze....we found San Pedro to be a real paradise and we made many friends there.
Bob and Mattie took good care of us . We had daily maid service from Nedia whom we
grew very fond of.....must not forget to mention Jimmy who did all the maintenance for
the condos. He is a particularly nice young man and we appreciate his willingness to
help us and his friendly daily greetings.

Bob was very nice and gave us good advice and great service and Mattie was very helpful. We were in condo 205 which was a wonderful condo and brand new on the third floor with great views. Recommend that you stay there and go diving .

My family and I didnt actually stay in this hotel, we had a reservation for the four of us to stay in a suite which according to the website has a "pullout couch to accommodate two additional guests" . When we arrived at the construction site the owner came outside and hung over the balcony to rudely inform us that we had to get two suites for the four of us for twice the already expensive price. We asked him for a phone and he barked at one of his construction workers to "get 'em a phone" and that was the last we saw of "Bob". The worker was extremely helpful, I dont think he was too fond of his boss either. The cloister is located at the very north end of ambergris caye which is nothing but construction. Do not stay here, the owner is rude, the website is deceptive, and the area is miserable. We ended up staying farther south at Coconuts which was nice. Belize is a great place to visit and we had a great trip other than the cloister.

We were looking for the perfect place to celebrate our 10th anniversary and we found it at The Cloisters. It was a private place to escape from our busy lives but convenient to all the wonderful sights of Belize.

We stayed in a one bedroom/ second floor, ocean front condo. Since we were in a corner unit, we had ocean views from nearly every window. (There was a banana tree outside the one window in the back.) The front of the property had a combination beach/ seawall area. Lounge chairs were available for guests and drooping coconut palms provided a shady spot to snooze.

We made our reservations directly with the owner/ builder who arranged our transportation to and from the airport. The staff was friendly and available to answer questions or assist with booking tours. Amenities included a full kitchen with plenty of pots, pans, dishes and utensils. We were surprised to find that the housekeeping staff even washed the dishes when we were out!

The Cloisters are only about a mile out of San Pedro town where there are many shops, restaurants and a lot of friendly people. Several restaurants are in walking distance of the condos. We enjoyed Sweet Basil, Beachin' Kitchen, and Papi's Diner. Golf carts and bikes are available to rent and water taxis will even stop at the dock next door. The first day, we rented a golf cart so we could get our groceries and explore North and South of our condo on Ambergris Caye. The next day we napped under the coconut trees in front of our condo. Then we walked into town for dinner. It was dark when we walked back and the stars were amazing. We took morning walks up the beach before breakfast and watched the iguanas playing in the underbrush.

During the week we went snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine Park and Shark-Ray Alley where we were thrilled to find ourselves swimming with nurse sharks, stingrays and even a loggerhead turtle. We were also able to tour the Mayan ruins at Lamanai. The ruins were amazing and the guides were knowledgable about everything from history to wildlife and plant life.

The weather was beautiful all 7 days. Highs were between 85 and 90 but there was a constant breeze from the ocean that kept everything comfortable. Our only regret was that one week was not enough!

  • Liked — Views, privacy and price.
  • Disliked — The only thing missing was a soap holder in the shower.
