“Couldn't get any Better!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for 6 nights during our honeymoon. The 5-star treatment began at the reservation phase. The booking staff made flight arrangements to the island for us, took care of golf cart reservations and a few other special requests. Upon arrival, we were greeted by name and immediately handed a rum punch to enjoy while getting to know the staff. Didn't even have to touch our luggage. PRV staff made sure it made it from the airport to our room.
The staff at Pelican Reef is TOP NOTCH. They learn your names from the first day and treat you as if they've known you for years. Greg, the owner, made it a point to introduce himself to us and make sure we were well taken care of. Ruth, Carlos, Karol and the rest of the gang is what sets this place apart.
Ambergris Caye is a wonderful place to visit...staying at PRV makes it even better. The amenities, service, and overall beauty of the resort are astounding. I can't wait to come back!!

My husband and I just returned from a 7 day stay at PRV. In short, everything that you read in the reviews and everything that you see in the pictures is completely true. We absolutely loved our Oceanfront room on the 2nd floor, unit 4. We couldn't believe how much space we had all to ourselves. The furnishings are beautiful, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances were an added bonus. We ate breakfast on our balcony most days, days when we had morning excursions planned, they left our ordered breakfast in the refrigerator which was really nice. We enjoyed the nice deep pool, which they keep much cooler than the ocean (during our stay, the water at the beachfront was almost as warm as bath water). The grounds are gorgeous with lots of flowering bushes everywhere.

We did a little snorkeling at the man-made reef under the dock which actually has a good variety of marine life, but of course the snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve was much better. We saw dolphins by the dock several times in the early morning and also when Kayaking. The white sand beach is well maintained and there are plenty of chairs present along the beach making it easy to enjoy the perfect view.

One of the things we did not anticipate was how horrendous the mosquitos were going to be in July. Fortunately, Pelican Reef provided insect repellant at their kiosk, which helped a lot. Bring your own bug spray for excursions and going into town. Once the breeze picked up later in the week, the mosquitos were almost absent, but bring insect repellant just in case.

The only bad thing I can say about Pelican Reef is that it is a ways from town. We frequently biked into town for dinner because gold carts are pricy. Part of the road to PVR is not paved and can make for a really bumpy ride. Some restaurants will pick you up free of charge, like Hidden Treasure (as the name implies, its hidden away from the rest of town, but food is great)However, the fact that it is out of town is also part of the charm. We did enjoy how peaceful it was compared to the bustle of town.

The staff was absolutely incredible and managed to accommodate almost every request of ours. We woke up one morning at 8:30 and decided we wanted to go snorkeling for a 2nd time, by 9:10 they had us on a boat out to the reef! We also enjoyed chatting with the staff, everyone is very friendly.

On a side note, we booked our Lamanai, cave tubing/zip lining/ and day sail to Caye Cauker/Hol Chan/Shark Ray alley trips in advance with Searious Adventures, which worked out really well. Because of where Pelican Reef was situated, we were always the first ones to be picked up on the dock and the last ones to be dropped off which was great.

Overall, if you are looking for a place in San Pedro to relax you cannot go wrong with Pelican Reef Villas. I hope we are able to return in the future.

We just returned from a one-week stay at PRV and found the resort and the staff to be absolutely wonderful. The property was beautiful and well maintained; our 2 BR villa very comfortable and well appointed; and the food & beverages very good. The website accurately depicts the property, villas, and experience, which is a refreshing change from many resorts that seem to over promise and under deliver.

While the property is beautiful, it is the staff and their attention to detail that makes the experience special. For us this started before we even arrived. Greg couldn't have been more accommodating & responsive in working with us to get the villa booked, as well as making our flight arrangements from BZE to the island on Tropic Air, along with ground transportation to the resort. Lori was wonderful to work with in planning the menu and making special arrangements for a romantic dinner on the beach for the night of our arrival (the food was great as were the palm leaves, flower filled conch shells, and roman candles surrounding our table at water's edge) . And Brandon had the patience of a saint in answering all my questions and pre-booking our Day on the Water with Captain Oliver (a must do BTW).

It continued upon our arrival on the island where we were greeted warmly at the airport by Alberto and driven to the resort. Once there we were greeted with smiles by Carol & Ruth, given a cooling towel, and a great rum punch. We can't say enough about these two ladies, they are great to work with, knowledgeable, friendly, and in general wonderful. They do a great job of answering questions, making recommendations on where to eat or things to do, and then booking them for you. Not to mention Ruth makes an awesome drink as does Carlos when she's not there. This customer centric mindset is embedded in the entire staff - all are extremely friendly and jump right in to help, regardless of what their job is or what they happen to be doing at the time.

We booked all of our tours through PRV and they were great. They have excellent relationships with the providers and seem to get preferential treatment from them. They also appear to be very discerning about who they work with so as to better ensure the quality of the customer experience. We especially liked the fact that all tours pick up/drop off at the resort dock and are billed to the room. We did the following and would recommend them all:
• A Day on the Water with Captain Oliver - this is a must, so much fun! Make sure you book prior to arrival.
• Snorkeling trip to Hol Chan Reserve & Shark Ray Alley
• Sunset Sailing
• 1/2 day fishing trip - we brought back the fish we caught and the chef cooked them up for lunch

The PRV team recommended a number of great restaurants for dinner (several of which offer complimentary shuttle service) and we weren't disappointed by any, as the food, service, and atmosphere were all wonderful. These included:
• Wild Mango's (the rum glazed bacon shrimp were delicious & make sure to try the key lime dessert)
• Hidden Treasure (fresh snapper wrapped and cooked in a banana leaf was excellent)
• Elvi's Kitchen (the fresh fish in black bean sauce & and the coconut curry shrimp were excellent)
• Blue Water Grille
• Victoria House

We would rate our Pelican Reef/Ambergris Caye vacation one of the best. We don't often go back to places, as there are so many new places we want to explore but we definitely see ourselves returning here in the future. Thanks to the entire PRV team for making our visit so memorable!

My 3 girlfriends and I just came back from an awesome trip in San Pedro, Belize. We stayed at the Pelican Reef and the hospitality was amazing. When it came down to organizing any outside activities and pickup/drop off, the management took care of everything. We ended up getting on an earlier plane and our cab driver, Carlos, was able to pick us up early on short notice. As soon as we pulled up to the resort, the staff immediately greeted us with cool towels (which was great on such a hot sweaty day) and we were taken to the bar for our welcome drink. Such a nice welcome!

The resort itself is smaller and more quaint. We had direct beach access with the options to go kayaking, lay out, or swim. Theres also a deck that you can go on to watch the sunrise or get picked up for snorkeling/snuba activities. Our snuba guide picked us up right from our dock! Our accommodations was more than roomy - we had a 2 bed/ 2 bath. It was fully equipped with a washer/dryer and full size kitchen/dining/living area. The showers were clean and nice. Drinks at the bar were great - ask Cale for the pina colada! He makes a great one. For great food recommendations, go to Carol. She was able to arrange most of our reservations and even got us a free pick up to the restaurant. She was spot on when it came down to what we were looking for.

The resort is located a bit south so to get into town, you can either bike it or do the golf cart. Watch out for the potholes!

Overall the Pelican Reef really made our vacation a great and relaxing one. I would definitely go back!

This smaller hotel has a small but nice pool and is located on the south side of the island on the beach. We are not staying at the hotel but a few days ago when it was very quite (off season) we enquired if we could use the pool if we had a meal and drinks and were told "sure anytime."
We came back yesterday and enjoyed the pool and had a meal. The staff were friendly, the food was "OK", chicken buger was good, but the Jalepeno Chicken was greasy, both were over priced. Today we returned to use the pool and have a few drinks to be told that because there were now more guest in the hotel, none of which were actually using the pool, we were not welcome. It was very embarracing and my children left in tears.

Even though the pool at Pelican Reef Villas is not open to the public, our stance regarding non-guests using it has always been the same: As long as it won't potentially inconvenience, intrude on, or negatively affect our guests' experience, we allow it with management approval. I am surprised to hear that the reviewer was told they could use the pool anytime, and I apologize for the embarrassment it caused when he was told they couldn't use it (when most of the tables around the pool were occupied by guests being served breakfast). And as a parent, I certainly hate to hear that his children left in tears.

To avoid any future misunderstandings, we now allow only Pelican Reef guests access to the resort pool. Our #1 priority is taking care of our guests and making sure that their vacation with us is the best it can be.

My family of four stayed at Pelican Reef Villas for two nights in June. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. It was the perfect spot for us in San Pedro!

Service: was outstanding. Though we had not alerted them of our arrival, there was a taxi waiting for us at the airport to take us to PRV. It was a convenient and quick trip out of the hurried and busy city to the quiet south. Upon arrival, our bags were unloaded and check-in was easy. We were given complementary drinks and all our questions answered in that one spot! Then we were taken to our suite.

Villas: We were given an upgrade to a three-bedroom suite, though we had not even requested it! There were three bedrooms and three full baths, a complete kitchen including full-size coffee maker and dishwasher, and washer and dryer. Dish soap, laundry detergent and coffee included!
The beds were comfortable and each room had a t.v., ceiling fan and clean linens. Central A.C. made everything comfortable. There was a large flat-screened t.v. in the family sitting area and a balcony overlooked the ocean.

Food: The free breakfast included each day was perfect and delicious. You could have it in your villa, or outside by the pool or even by the ocean. They would bring it wherever you like. We chose to eat lunch there as well and found something for everyone in our family. The food was delicious as well.

Though there is no dinner service at PRV, there are several good restaurants just a short walk away. Or, choose to rent a golf cart and explore a little further! Some restaurants will even come pick you up in their golf cart if you call ahead! They have plenty of recommendations and plenty of options.

We booked a snorkeling tour through PRV one morning. It was one of the highlights of our trip! The tour guides were wonderful and picked us up right at the PRV pier. Could not have been more convenient and my kids LOVED swimming with the sharks and rays and seeing amazing sea-life expertly led by the guides. Later that day my husband and son took a ride in one of the sea kayaks. Bicycles, kayaks and snorkeling gear are available on a first come, first served basis which we loved.

The service, cleanliness, location, food and activities all made our stay here exceptional. We would not hesitate to come again!

We took our trip to Belize in Nov. 2011 but the memories are fresh and wonderful. The Pelican Reef Villas were perfect in every way. The moment we arrived we were warmly greeted by Terry! She was so excited and friendly we were immediately comfortable. The room was spacious and well appointed. Beautiful Villa and the constrution was impressive. (From a builders perspective). Right on a beautiful beach and within kayak (free to guest) distance of the barrier reef. We decided to use the bicycles instead of the golf cart. The beauty of the bicycles was we could ride right on the beach for MILES. The sand was smooth and hard packed at the waters edge. We went on my exploration trips to town and north of town. Little palapa type places to stop and eat or drink or BOTH! The water was pefect and you can snorkel right off the pier in front of the villa. Breakfast was wonderful and many choices. I strongly suggest a day trip fishing, snorkeling and site seeing with Oliver..The staff will assist in arrainging many adventures. We caught fish, dived for Conch and Lobster and took our catch to a private island to have our host prepare a wonderful meal. It was an awesome experience and well worth it. The trip to the Mayan Ruins was truely amazing. All the people were very friendly and not once did we feel unsafe. The Pelican Reef is a nice distance from the husle and bussel of San Pedro. Really only bussel was golf carts buzzing all over the place. San Pedro was great little Caribbean experience. English spoken as well as any place in US. I can't say enough about our experience and our host at the PRV. I would highly recommend to my very best friends. One suggestion is, if you don't love bumpy 2hr boat rides then take the flight to the island. We spent a lot of time eating at Joes wich is right down the street. Excellent Mexican/Caribbean/Tex Mex food and just super friendly owner and staff. In two words "LOVED IT"

Room Tip: Our room was ground level next to bar and pool. Never was a noise problem at all. Great WiFi there a...
