If you're just looking for a cheap place to crash, don't care about maintenance issues, noise, etc..., then this will work. It is right in the middle of it all, which is both good and bad. We left after the first night, which was already paid for, because (while we didn't want to spend $100/night) we just couldn't take staying there... Check my other reviews for a better choice, in my mind... The one guy I met (and likely dealt with over the internet too) was nice and very friendly. The reason we left was just the crowds, noise, and general condition of the room/building...

Hi Dave77091,

Thanks for taking the time to review our property. Every review helps us improve our little hotel. Indeed, we are right down town in the middle of it all and not for everyone. If you're looking to be in the heart of town where the action is, we are the place for you, if not, we can recommend other options. Besides that, we are one of older hotels on the island and yes, while the sun and sea have taken a toll on our building, we do carry out minor renovations yearly, and check our rooms after they are cleaned to ensure they met our standards daily.

We are happy to hear that our Front Desk Manager, Felipe, was helpful and friendly. He really is a gem once you get to know him. While we might not be a fancy hotel, we are proud to be a 100% Belizean owned, family run hotel with great service, a stellar location ( if you want to be in town) at a great value.

Thanks again,

D. Guerra

Budget prices for a resort island and a convenient location for water taxis, divers, restaurants. Friendly, helpful staff available during the day time. Room was basic, but large and clean with air conditioning--reminded me of my dorm room decades ago only this was larger and had a private bath. Potable water refills available in the office. Front deck with chairs and hammocks overlooking the beach and dock--you could even see the huge manta rays come in along the dock from on this second floor deck!

Room Tip: Ours was in the back so quieter than just off the deck which got foot traffic, but others may prefer...

We spent 4 days in San Pedro for Scuba certification. Tio Pil is in a convenient location, right off water taxi port, had friendly staff along with AC and wireless internet. For the amount of time we spent in the room it was a great hotel. However, it is more of a backpackers hotel, so if you want more than basic's this may not be for you.

Room Tip: If you want a water view i'd be sure to request it in writing and keep the documentation. We w...

My boyfriend and I are university students and stayed here for 5 nights while in San Pedro and loved it. Easy to find from the beach because of the lime green colour, but a bit harder to find from the streets, even with our lonely planet map. The room was clean and air conditioned, which was a treat in the hot weather. We loved spending evenings sitting on the shared veranda reading, relaxing, and having a beer while enjoying the lovely beach front view. A few steps away was Lily's restaurant where we ate breakfast a few times, also reasonably priced. A few more steps away is the Caye Caulker water taxi service and Ecologic divers, both of which we frequented. Loved this little hotel, would definitely stay here again. Great location, within walking distance of everything we needed and all for a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Room 4 was nice - to the side of the veranda, so it was cheaper than staying right on the veranda

Very nice staff (when they are around, we seemed to miss them a lot in the office) who tried to make our stay the best. The deck is really the highlight as the rooms are quite spare but comfortable... Maybe they could use some TLC as well. But the location is good to explore San Pedro. If I were in the market to lounge, I'd look to one of the farther out resorts as this is not that place and the beach out front is pretty busy with shops, docks, restaurants and vendors.

Tio Pils is located right on the beach, just a few steps away from the water taxi dock making getting there simple! The rooms are nice (very basic, but comfortable), and the balcony with hammocks is an excellent place to hang out or have a drink. We found everything we needed to be within walking distance of Tio Pils, and they even have a chalkboard with recommended activities and restaurants right outside the office.

My husband and I spent a week at Tio Pils, and it was an amazing trip. It's not a fancy resort; it is a family-owned budget hotel, and it suited us perfectly. We were upstairs in room #1, which has air conditioning, a refrigerator and a microwave. They put bottled water in the room for guests, which is a nice perk.

The location is in the heart of town, but we had no issues with noise. I napped in the hammock outside, to the rustling of palm fronds - very nice! It's close to restaurants, and just about anything you want to do in San Pedro.

There is a restaurant (Lily's) right next door. Lily's serves breakfast, too, and the food is excellent. It's very convenient to get up and walk right next door.

Felipe was handling the office when we were there, and he was amazing! He recommended trips and helped us book them. His recommendations were great, and we had an amazing time. He treated us like we were old friends, and made our stay really special.

This is a budget hotel, but the service was 5 star. We would go again!
