The Royal Carribbean is a nice new, clean resort with individual cabanas south of San Pedro, next to Victoria House. We liked being on the outskirts of town. It was not a problem getting around with the rented bikes at the resort. There was a little mixup with the bikes, but the owner credited us back for the snafu. It's a new resort, with a refreshing pool and a restaurant being built right next door (a definite plus!) There was no air-conditioning, only ceiling fans. We heard they will be adding this, which would be HUGE as we were there right before the hottest time of year and it was a little sticky at night. It has a few kinks to work out, but the place is clean and quiet, has a microwave, tv and maid service. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here. Everyone was friendly and helpful and the rates reasonable. We have no doubt that this place will boom soon.

In response to this and a few other reviews, I'd like to clarify that since the end of May, Royal Caribbean Resort has been fully air conditioned with high powered split units that provide ultra-cool temperature control. Some have mentioned our bar-restaurant was under construction or not open for business. Our Fido's Sand Bar-Restaurant that overlooks the Caribbean is now open full time for all meal and drinks into the evening. Everyone is welcome to enjoy it and the beach bowling that is also now up and running.

I stayed a few nights here in early March 2006. My room was very clean and well equipped for my needs, with a small kitchen area with microwave, small fridge, hot water pot and some kitchen utensils.

My friends and I (we were in Belize for a week of scuba diving) found the layout of the rooms, which were in very, very orderly rows and part of them around a rectangular lawn area, to at first remind us of the layout of the POWs cabins on Hogan's Heroes or Stalag 17. Not that the buildings are at all shabby. They were new as the resort opened in December 2005 from what the on site management told us. The planted foliage for the landscaping was so new that it was not anywhere near grown up yet, so there was not much of a tropical paradise feel to the place at that time. This should go away as the foliage grows.

The rooms did not have air conditioning but it was not that hot while we were there and the two large ceiling fans were fine for circulating the air.

As scuba divers we found the lack of any facilities for our needs, like an area to rinse our gear after diving, or racks to hang out our wetsuits, to be a tad inconvenient but I would just walk into my shower with all my gear and rinse it there and then lay it out on the lawn to dry. We told the Manager what they should put in for their diving guests in the future.

At the time of our visit the pool area was not open as construction crews were walking on the building that will be the pool's bar, etc.

The beach area needed some work. Unlike most resorts on the island, where the sand is raked and picked up daily at least, the beachfront here had not been cleaned of seaweed and some construction debris yet. We never laid out on the beach anyway as we were out diving most of the day anyway.

The location is a bit out there for San Pedro. We had initially stayed at one of the oldest resorts on the island that was within walking distance of the airport and just south of the old downtown area of San Pedro. There were lots of restaurants, shops and bars within easy walking distance. In contrast, Royal Caribbean's location is a good 2 miles south from the airport at least. A couple of neighboring resorts have restaurants but that was about it for anything within easy walking distance. As part of our package we had vouchers for breakfast each day at one the neighboring resorts.

While each room/cabin itself was neat, clean and adequately equipped, we would have liked to have had a small umbrella table with chairs for each unit to sit outside by the lawn. Since the pool was not in use we went over and grabbed several resin chairs and just put them in front of our cabins for our daily post dive cocktail sessions.

Per management, the currently damaged pier on the property is to be replaced with a much larger new structure in the next year or two.

If you don't mind being a ways out from the town's shops, bars and restaurants I think Royal Carribean is a good place to just hang out and catch up on your recreational reading at present. I'm interested to see what it will look like in a few years.

All the reviews before mine were accurate! It's brand new and the manager is so helpful! The bungalows are great and clean. It will be better once everything is open- they were still working on it while we were there. Definately rent a golf cart from them to cruise around- it's worth it. No swimming in the ocean, like most of Belize, but the pool is huge.

From the moment my boyfriend and I arrived we felt as if we were in Paradise! The hotel is new, clean, and the staff are very friendly.

As other reviews have mentioned, the only drawback to this resort is that it is a bit of a walk from town. However, we took a cab ride into town every night and never had a problem. It wasnt too costly, either.

The poolside bar isnt finished yet, but it looks like it will be great once it's up and going. When we felt like a drink we would just walk next door to Victoria's house. It was even close enough that we would walk back with our drinks to enjoy them in the pool.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
I cannot wait to go back!!

We enjoyed our stay at this resort. Quiet but still
walking distance to downtown and many restaurants.
Clean and spacious individual cabanas are very nice.
Best pool on the island. Great views of the ocean
from anywhere on the resort. Friendly and helpful
staff. Brand new bikes and golf carts available for
rent.

The only reason it is 'average', is that it is still being built. The bar was unfinished, but promises to be a very nice seaside gathering spot. The pool is large with a view of the beautiful sea. It still needs tiki huts or some kind of shade, as the sun is vaery intense.
Separate yellow cottages are new, clean and adequate. When the long dock is repaired, and the proposed Dive Center up and running, the property will be more alluring. The owners are very friendly and receptive to comments for improvement. I'd like to see it in another year when their plans are finished.
